OUTCOMES BEING ASSESSED

SC5-LW1Multicellular organisms rely on coordinated and interdependent internal systems to respond to changes in their environment.d. describe the role of, and interaction between, the coordination systems in maintaining humans as functioning organisms.

SC5-LW3Advances in scientific understanding often rely on developments in technology, and technological advances are often linked to scientific discoveries.e. describe, using examples, how developments in technology have advanced biological understanding, eg vaccines, biotechnology, stem-cell research and in-vitro fertilization.f. discuss some advantages and disadvantages of the use and applications of biotechnology, including social and ethical considerations.

SC5-7WSprocesses, analyses and evaluates data from first-hand investigations and secondary sources to develop evidence-based arguments and conclusions.

SC5-8WSapplies scientific understanding and critical thinking skills to suggest possible solutions to identified problems.

SC5-9WSpresents science ideas and evidence for a particular purpose and to a specific audience, using appropriate scientific language, conventions and representations.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS: Part A

Students are to hand in a printed copy of their typed report to their Science Teacher on, or before, the due date. A printed copy of this task, included marking criteria needs to be included. No electronic submissions will be accepted. Failure to include the task documentation with you report will incur a 20% penalty.

The notice of receipt is to be detached, signed by your teacher and kept in your science book. School policy applies regarding non-submission due to illness/misadventure. If school policy is not

followed, a penalty of 20% will be given for each day the task has not been submitted. All work needs to be your own. A bibliography correctly referencing all sources needs to be included in

your report.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS: Part B

In class on Wed 5 Nov 2014, you will be provided with a question on a body system topic with 15 minutes to answer the question. You should prepare for this question by completing Part A of the assignment and also considering the questions that might be asked.

Students are to use the space provided in this task to answer the questions. In the event of you being absent from class on the 5 November, an alternate question will be provided for

you to answer at the next available science class.

Part A: Information Report (35 Marks)

Write an information report on the human nervous system.Ensure you include the following aspects:

1. An introduction Covering of the function and components of the human nervous system functions.

2. A body of your report that includes: Explanation of the nervous systems coordination with other systems of the human body. Detailed description of central and peripheral nervous systems. Explain how nerve cells function and their structure, including the role of neurons. Compare the roles of a sensory neuron and a motor neuron. Illustrate the stimulus-response using a labelled hand-drawn diagram. Include an explanation of

the diagram. Describe the function and list the components of the endocrine system. Analyse the relationship between the endocrine system and the central nervous system.

3. A conclusion summarising the important facts of the report.

4. A bibliography of sources of information.

Attach your information report to this task.
