About Bathinda
Bathinda is a place with its roots in the
ancient Indus Valley Civilisation. The sites
excavated in nearby Mansa belong to pre-
Harappan, Harappan and late Harappan
periods. Its earlier name was Bikramgarh as
mentioned in History of Patiala, by Khalifa
Muhammad Hassan. However, during 10th -
11th centuries, the city name was Tabarhind.
The Bhattis ruled it for a long period,
and Rao Bhatti established the town of
Bathinda and Bhatner which were fortified
and linked through a tunnel. The fort, Qila
Mubarak, is thus more than one thousand
years old.
In the Slave Dynasty (1206-1526)
Bathinda remained under the rule of Sultans of
Delhi. The first famous woman ruler, Razia
Sultana, who ruled India from 1236 to 1240,
was imprisoned in Bathinda fort in 1240.
In 1706 the Tenth Guru of Sikhs,
Guru Gobind Singh visited the town and
stayed in the fort for some time before going
to Talwandi Sabo where he dictated Adi
Granth. A gurudwara is located inside the
fort in his memory.
After being declared a district in 1948,
Bathinda made rapid strides in agriculture and
industry, so that once arid lands are now
yielding bumper crops including grapes. The
monuments of its modern history include Guru
Nanak Dev Thermal Plant, other thermal plant
at Lehra Mohabbat, National Fertilizers
Limited and Guru Gobind Singh Refinery.
Bathinda has emerged not only as one
of the biggest food grain markets but also an
important centre of education, having schools
and colleges including a medical college and
an engineering college. With the establishment
of Central University of Punjab another
sparkling pearl has been added to this string
with the aim to educate and train manpower in
this economically backward region for the
overall development of the state and the
country.

While we have taken utmost care and
dedication in providing the students best
facilities and securities, there are certain things
that need individual attention and
participation.
1. Avoid loitering around the open spaces
and uninhabited areas during dark. The
habitat is inherently dry and there
could be venomous snakes and insects,
so take care.
2. Quality of groundwater in Bathinda is
not good. Students are warned that
untreated tap water is not potable. We
have provided RO-purified drinking
water units at multiple places in the
campus, and use only these sources for
drinking purpose.
CUPB Culture
To an outsider, CUPB
campus, with its centuries-old trees, chirping
migratory birds and green turfs might seem
quiet, perhaps even sleepy. Nothing could be
intellectual activity, research, knowledge
creation, learning, and teaching. CUPB
historic campus in Bathinda is always buzzing
and vibrant even after hours. In this
environment, results matter and creativity
flourishes within groups, teams, and
departments.
For many people the most compelling
aspect of work at CUPB is the sense of
mission that permeates every organization on
campus. Whether unravelling the diversity of
marine algae along Indian Subcontinental
coast, seeking an understanding of
organizational dynamics or economics,
pursuing breakthroughs in biomedical science
that could lead to a cure for Cancer, or simply
helping to give students the best possible
preparation for their lives and careers, people
at CUPB enjoy the feeling of going to work
every day knowing what they do is truly
motivates and inspires them and often makes
them want to spend their whole career at
CUPB!
CUPB
whole of their careers is a source of strength.
CUPB today is focused on helping its

registered with the local police
authorities, and this shall be done
necessarily on the recommendation
of the Head of the institution. Local

institutional authorities shall ensure
vigil on incidents that may come
within the definition of ragging and
shall be responsible for action in
the event of ragging in such

incidents within the campus.
Managements of such private
hostels shall be responsible for not
reporting cases of ragging in their
premises.
8. The Head of the institution shall
take immediate action on receipt of
the recommendations of the Anti-

surveys.
11. The burden of proof shall lie on the
perpetrator of ragging and not on
the victim.

part of the police/ local authorities.

and completed within the one week
of the incident itself.
13. The Migration / Transfer
Certificate issued to the student by
the institution shall have an entry,

violent or aggressive behaviour or
any inclination to harm others.

brought out properly in the presence
of the faculty, thus helping them to
shed their inferiority complex, if
any, and remove their inhibitions.
3. The institution shall enhance the
student-faculty interaction by
involving the students in all matters
of the institution, except those
relating to the actual processes of
evaluation and of faculty
