TURLOCK CHRISTIAN INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC DEPARTMENT Student Name_____________________________ Instrument Choice________________________________ Dear Parents, We are really looking forward to having your student in the instrumental music program this year. School will begin August 16th, 2010 and we will start the instrument check out shortly thereafter. It is recommended that students have their instruments, supplies and books as soon as possible. If your student is unsure of what instrument he or she will be playing, or does not currently own or rent an instrument, we recommend waiting until August to purchase supplies—after instrument check out. We donʼt want you to purchase a Flute Book, if there are no flutes available and your student ends up playing another instrument. We highly encourage renting instruments from one of the local stores below as the number of instruments we have to loan out does always not serve each individuals desired choice. These stores offer very affordable rates for our students! It is suggested that each student have his or her own book, which may be purchased at one of the music stores listed on this sheet. The method book that we will be using is the Standard of Excellence method book. Make sure the correct instrument name is on the book. The wind instrument books are generally $7.95+tax, and the percussion books are generally $14.95+tax). The book level that each student will need to purchase will be assigned to the student during class. For your reference, book 1 is colored red, book 2 is colored blue, and book 3 is colored green. It will be necessary for your student to have the following supplies: BARITONE/EUPHONIUM/TUBA AL CASS or FAT CAT valve oil, tuning slide grease CLARINET One box Vandoren #2.5-3 reeds, cork grease FLUTE Small soft cloth FRENCH HORN Soft cloth, rotor oil, tuning slide grease PERCUSSION Drum pad/Vic Firth SD2 concert snare sticks SAXOPHONE One box Vandoren #2.5-3 reeds, neck strap, cork grease TROMBONE Soft cloth, TROMBONTINE slide cream, small spray bottle TRUMPET AL CASS or FAT CAT valve oil, tuning slide grease A folding music stand for home practice is suggested but not required. You may also find many other supplies that your student may wish to have as part of their music learning experience, such as a metronome or tuner. Listed below are some area music stores that rent and sale instruments, books and supplies. I would suggest phoning these stores to be sure the items you need are in stock.
