    Student Information

    The staff of Bertie Middle School, along with Mrs. Sandra Hardy and Mr.

    Calvin Moore, would like to invite all students to take part in our Club

    Activity Day. Many clubs will be offered to broaden your horizons for

    future endeavors. We want to make this day an exciting and enriching

    experience for all involved. We have offered you 36 clubs to choose from,

    which will allow you to make choices. Please choose at least three clubs,

    and your clubs should be listed in order of your choice. When you make

    your choice, you will need to list your choices on the paper provided for you.

    We will do our best to place you in one of those choices.

    Future Business Leaders of America

    GradeLimit: 20 Members

    FBLA is an organization created to benefit students in the business world or

    feel they seek careers in the business world. It teaches students how to

    conduct meetings using parliamentary procedures. Persons will also be

    competing at local, regional statewide and national levels.

    Requirements: 6th

    GradeLimit: 20 members

    This club is made up of games of strategy, critical thinking and problem

    solving. Students will play board games focusing on a strategy to capture

    the opponents king.

    Requirements: 7th

    Grade

    Limit: 15 members

    This club will consist of the students and staff that wish to contribute to the production of

    the yearbook for Bertie Middle School. This will be the second yearbook for this schooland will include athletics, staff members, different activities that have taken place

    throughout the year, etc. We need creative people to create a great product of this school.

    Literacy & Technology Book ClubAdvisorP. Baker

    Requirements: 7th & 8th Grade

    Limit: 10 members

    Do you like to play games? How about use an IPod? Are you good atstorytelling? Then, the Literacy & Technology Book Club is for you. We will

    be creating gaming experiences using a set of library books and IPods while creating

    videos and QR codes. Be ready, because you will be on camera as we explore and

    promote literacy in a fun and exciting environment. You will realize reading has neverbeen so enjoyable!

    If you interested in film and film making, then this is the club for you. You

    will be involved in making, reviewing and editing films according to the

    production. The Film Club is an exciting adventure !

    Requirements: 7th & 8th Grade students who have a basic understanding of spelling,

    vocabulary, math and spatial skills.

    Limit: 20 members

    Looking for a club that involves a lot of mind-boggling fun creativity? Well, youvefound it. This club can best be incorporated into the curriculum of these grades. It

    involves teamwork and competition so are you up for the challenge?

    The Environmental Science Club will study and explore issues that deal with our

    environment Students will be participating in a variety of activities to enhance theunderstanding of environmental science in our school, community, and nation. Studentswill also be responsible for carrying out the Go Green theme in our school andcommunity. The Environmental Science Club is open to students who are willing to

    discover more about the environment in which we live.

    This club is to develop, implement and maintain the beautification resources to enrich the

    school flowers and create a garden. It will be integrated into the curriculum of science.The Green Thumbs garden will inspire teachers and students with a deep hands-on

    connection to the food cycle, sustainable agriculture and the natural environment.

    Peer Mediation ClubAdvisorSusan Cox

    Requirements: 7th

    GradeLimit: 20 Members

    Peer mediation involves learning how to 1. actively listen to both sides of an issue2. techniques on how to help students in conflict resolve their issues 3. creating an

    agreement between the conflicting students on how they will handle issues in the

    future. If you are a student who is a good peace maker, good listener, and fair minded

    this is the club for you. Learn how to help your friends resolve their conflicts with eachother and/or their teachers. You may even learn a better way of handling your conflicts,

    as well.

    Sewing & Craft ClubAdvisorsB. Hoggard & S. Parker

    Requirements: 7th & 8th GradeLimit: 20 Members

    If you like to sew or create a craft, then this is the club for you. Students will crafting and

    creating items to share with others in the community. Some of the items will be used aslearn and serve items to enrich people in our community. This club will be a perfect way

    to show off your creativity.

    Requirements: 8th Grade

    Limit: 20 Members

    Students in this club will learn the basic of nail care. They will soak, clean, shape, and

    polish nails. The polish will be basic colors and designs. They will also learn to massagepalms to relax nerves in hands. Students will set up their "stations" and enjoy a

    manicure.

    If you think you love cooking, then the Cooking Club is the place for you. You willenjoy preparing and cooking food with other club members. After preparing a product,

    the club will share products with others in the community, which will allow you to

    The Tennis Club is designed to help with the fundamentals, rules of the game, basicstrokes and ball handling. Tennis is a game that is especially good physically and

    Do you like stepping and doing different routines as well as learning how to discipline

    your ways and actions? Come and represent Bertie Middle School with sportsmanship

    and spirit by stepping high with the Phoenix Steppers. In this organization, we plan tocreate different steps and coordinate our talent to step high and proud while representing

    Bertie Middle School.

    The goal of the Guidance Club is to broaden our students horizons. Students will beable to see al the things life has to offer. We will be exploring the finer things in life;

    Interested in playing word games and increasing your word vocabulary power? Join this

    club and youll never be bored!! You can play interesting word games like UPWORDS,

    SCRABLE, BOGGIE and many other games while at the same time learning new words

    to add to you vocabulary.

    Beta Club is an academic leadership organization living by the motto, Let us lead by

    serving others. Invitation is based on semester averages in all subject areas of 90 orabove a well as upstanding character. Members of this club are inducted by the advisor

    in a ceremony each year. This club is organized to work in the community, conduct

    fundraisers, collaborative projects, etc.

    Math Enthusiasts is primarily focused on the different math games, puzzles, tricks, and

    problem solving strategies. Students will explore hands-on as well as computer based

    games.

    Objective: To encourage students to do good in math by playing different math games,

    puzzles, tricks, and problem solving activities that would enhance mathematics

    achievement a well as love of the subject.

    Student Government Association (SGA) is a student led club which participates in all

    aspects of campus life. Club members have opportunities to engage in the governing of

    Reading, writing, and understanding magazines can be exciting. Our

    magazine club will be discussing magazines of interest for the club. The

    literary magazine club will meet to develop a higher level of interest for ourschool. The club will feature a new magazine every few months, and the

    club is also guaranteed to peek your interest in literary magazines.

    Boys to MenAdvisorKeith Urquhart

    Requirements: 8th Grade Men

    Limit: 20 Members

    This club is designed to equip young men with the steps needed to advance them to

    adulthood. The students will be exposed to researched-based principles that lead to

    success. The participants will be challenged to think outside the box and will gain a

    wealth of knowledge so that they can learn to cope with outside forces designed todistract them from becoming productive citizens.

    Students will be exposed to Steven Coveys leadership principles and Kwanzas steps tounifying people. The student will also develop radio skits and short plays to counteract

    violence. Mr. K. B. Urquhart will invite youth leaders and youth agencies within out area

    to enhance the participants learning experience.

    This club is designed to construct boys into become confident young men by

    empowering their self-esteem, building their confidence and boosting their moral.

    The Phoenix Gents members are exposed to a number of settings that will allow

    them to portray their gentlemen-like traits.

    The Phoenix Pearls will focus on young ladies learning how to conduct themselves as

    classy, sophisticated ladies that are Precious As Pearls. Young ladies will be

    encouraged how to conduct themselves in a respectable manner, using table manners and

    using special occasion etiquette. Create their own individualized step routine to represent

    their sisterhood. Colors will be pink and green.
