Student Choice in Physical Education Come away with new activities, and knowledge about a variety of choice-based programs. Incorporating choice is a student-centered learning process that is active, engaging, and goal- directed. It fosters responsibility, promotes decision-making, provides students with a sense of ownership, and holds them accountable for their learning (Pagnano & Griffin 2001). CHAMPS School: 3 Teachers-Weekly Units Share & Rotate Students Choice Days at end of every 3 week rotation. Student Reflections with Community Access info. F.L.A.S.H.: Fitness, Lifetime Activities, Sports & Health Sample School #1: 3 Teachers offer three or more choices each week. Students sign up for a new one weekly. 8th grade students are class T.A.’s that help run activities. Teachers supervise more than one activity with help of TA’s. Variety of activities w/ modifications = participation. Sample School #2: 3 Teachers. Each teacher has ONE theme they teach: Fitness, Sports, & Movement/ Dance. Share students. Weekly rotations. Choice-Based Strategies: Stations w/ choices Circuits w/ choices Student Led Projects Design Your Own Game or Workout Activities Choice Days Choice Tournaments Choice Days: FitStep Pro: Teacher sets activity time & MVPA goal Students choose from certain previously learned activities and participate to reach goal. Teachers & Student leaders can help lead/facilitate areas. Choose Level of Competition: During practice, skill development or tournaments: provide levels of participation. Challenge or Recreation League. Practice League.
