It’s the age old problem for graduates everywhere. You need experience to get a job – but you can’t get experience unless you have a job!

Which is why a work placement is such a vital part of your studies here at Aberdeen Business School (ABS).

Getting real experience in a workplace brings your studies to life. Not only do you get to put what you have learned into practice, but you get a real feel for your specialism and a taste of what your career might be like.

It’s not a case of “we’ll try and fi nd you something suitable”. You will gain relevant work experience through a placement during your time at ABS.

As you can see from what our students have to say about their placements, it’s an invaluable way to get the experience you need.

“My placement year has been fantastic. It has allowed me to develop and gain skills both within the workplace and within myself. It gave me the opportunity to be involved with numerous campaigns and marketing activities and also lead on a few projects myself. Undertaking my placement at NHS has given me a superb experience within the fi eld of marketing.”

We work closely with employers to offer courses that make our graduates particularly desirable to local, national and international companies and organisations.

“My one year industrial placement with Wood Group has proved vital in terms of both personal development and the development of workplace transferable skills. Prior to placement, I had had limited experience within a business environment and although I had learnt about diff erent HR concepts/theories through university, being submerged in an organisational context has been an eye opening experience and I would defi nitely recommend it.”

Lauren KayBA (Hons) Management with HRMHR Assistant, Wood Group

“A degree from Robert Gordon is as near to a guarantee of a job as you can get. Few graduates were unemployed six months after leaving last year – just 3.8% – the lowest rate of any state-funded university in the country. It’s the same every year at Robert Gordon, which has the best graduate jobs record of any university.”

The Sunday Times University Guide 2012
