First place in Senior competitionProject to be built in Poth, Texas

Project was to create a rest stop for the town of Poth, Texas. This project was a competition were the judges were the town council. The building requi-erements was to have a seating area, bicycle stop, water fountain, and built with local sandstone.

SANDSTONE RESTROOMLAYERS OF DESIGN AND CURVESThree main spaces diagrammed in boxes and then layered and rotated together. The main focus was the sandstone, looking at its rigidity and linear character with a blend of curvilinear colors. Diagramming the main walls to correspond to the breezes and the light exposure. The building uses all natural resources.

These views project how dynamic the building is. The curves of the ground-cover pull you toward the buidling and act as transitions from one space to the other. The two main sandstone walls contain all the movement and are at different angles to speak to each side of the site. The roof, the walls and the curvilinear walkways activate the site, changing a simple rest stop into a place of gather-ing. An EDC meeting will be held Feb 4, 2013 at the Poth City Hall at 7:00 P.M. to discuss preliminary costs for the project

This project was to design dormitories for architecture students in downtown San Antonio. Using an old historic building and incorporating a new building, with a game room, dining room, studio and gym. Each room needs a kitchen, bathroom and four bedrooms. Needs to be ADA accessible.

Project was to design a center of sustain-ability in the dowtown San Antonio. The center would inform visitors of how to renew resources and become self-sufficient at their homes. It would include a museum, vertical gardens and apartments.

GREEN REACH LEARNING CENTER

CONCEPT- Using green links, creating a green environment

Concept shifting of grid

ConceptThis concept focuses on landmarks and connecting them through passageways. The landmark is a wind turbine, as a symbol of sustainability. The building creates a courtyard in the middle with two main grids, which would combine in the middle. The grid is transferred to the structure and the ground cover.

4th place sophomore competition

The Competition challenged to define a new relationship between S.A. College with its students and community. The focus was sustainability, urban planning and landscaping. It is a mix use apartment complex with a health facility, coffee shop, commercial shops and daycare center.

MIXED USE DORMSThe project acknowledges the environment, using sustain-ability as the main concern; using natural lighting, passive air circulation and water cisterns. The concept came from connecting the parks close by, and having this new building as the glue to join them all.Concept

Design based on the overlapping of grids of the downtown San Antonio. The grid shifts from orthagonal to diagonal and use this to create an intervention to the Aztec Theater on Commerce street. The new addition will attach to the wall and create a restaurant/bar on the roof top and on the walls activating the area.

The concept is defined by the grid of the city, with the curves of the river and the hierarchy of the buidlings in the downtown San Antonio.

Project was to create a park in the downtown of San Antonio from the University of Texas to Hemisphere park. This park would have to create urban spaces where none before, and link the downtown area.

PARK INTERVENTION

Design solution was to create a second story park as link of UTSA and Hemisphere park. Main focus was to ceate vertical gardens as a green solution and to create a visual icon on the skyline of San Antonio. The park focuses on curves which represents the flowing motion of the riverwalk. These curves create a fluid motion for the walkways.

Project required a transit and tourism center with a sitting area for the bus station. Accessible to all people from the street and river level. The accommodations are a condo/hotel with a spa and fitness center with 25 park-ing spaces, as well as a restaurant, deck area, pool, physical plant and offices.

CONDO-CONNECTIVITYWITH TRANSIT CENTER

The main concept started with a bubble diagram to separate the spaces into private and public areas. The parti is a pinwill where there are four main spaces radiating from one main center. The L-shape form is also used to open to the downtown area and block from sunlight and create privacy. In elevation there is two main areas rotating along the main core circulation.Concept

Final Drawings

The site of the building was limited. My design has one main circulation tower as a core and two apartments per floor. The first and last floor plan started with a simple rectangle, and the other floors shifted shapes to open to views, light sources and breezes. The tower elegant-ly twists around the core to create a dynamic building and activate the site. The first floors have a commercial area, transit center, restaurant and lobby. There is a pool and lounge area in the middle of the tower to create a focal point, to channel the breezes and to manipulate the light and shadows to activate this space.
