Participation in the Work Ethic Certification is voluntary and is the responsibility of the student. Seniors should follow the enrollment application and process defined by their high school. Contact the school’s Guidance Counselor or College and Career Readiness Coach for an application and timeline. The student application packet is available at www.scklaunch.com.
Since 2011, the Bowling Green Area Chamber Foundation has been creating meaningful connections to the world of work to position students in our community to lead their future career path. The powerful partnership between our two school districts and business partners provides students the opportunity to leverage career options important to our high demand sectors. The Foundation is committed to ensuring a talent pipeline for continued growth and sustainable economic impact.
The Foundation views the adoption of the SCK LAUNCH Work Ethic Certificate as an important tool that can help provide a pipeline of skilled graduates into today’s workforce. Students are encouraged to complete the certification as evidence of their preparation for transition from school to work and life beyond the classroom.
The SCK LAUNCH Work Ethic Certification is awarded to high school seniors who complete a series of accomplishments that includes activities, courses and experiences to foster career readiness and portrays The Ideal Graduate. The Work Ethic Certification is a signal to employers that a student is prepared to engage in the workforce. The certification validates that the individual has acquired habits, knowledge and skills foundational to entering the workforce. Students receiving this recognition should have an advantage when seeking employment as it easily identifies them as potential career ready employees.

The following are workplace learning experiences for SCK LAUNCH Work Ethic Certification: SCK LAUNCH Career Shadowing, school cooperative education (co-op), internship, or externship.
WORKPLACE LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Employment would be at a minimum of 10 hours per week for four consecutive months during senior year OR 20 hours per week during the past summer.
EMPLOYMENT
An activity that a student is actively and productively involved within the school or community. A student may hold a leadership position in an extracurricular activity.
PARTICIPATION IN TWO (2) ORGANIZED EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES OR ONE (1) EXTRACURRICULAR LEADERSHIP ROLE
Student receives credit from a postsecondary institution for at least one course OR student receives a C or better in an AP course.
DUAL CREDIT OR AP COMPLETION
Engaging in community service provides students the opportunity to become active members of their community, has a positive impact on society and provides a service to those who need it most. Community service is defined as unpaid work that benefits others.

The SCK LAUNCH Work Ethic Certification is the culmination of a student’s K-12 journey that begins with The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (FranklinCovey) in elementary school and follows them through middle and high school with inten-tional leadership training and career exploration opportunities intended to launch students into their career.

Students will benefit from learning and developing employability skills. Throughout a student’s K-12 education, students will have the opportunity to learn essential employability skills. Depending on the course work, career pathway and/or extracurricular chosen by the student, a range of opportunities are provided to learn professioal and interpersonal skill and apply those skills. Local business partners and educators worked together to identify the skills best suited for our students to fulfill The Ideal Graduate vision. A great resource to help teach these life skills may be found in Find Your Voice Career Readiness, a series of flexible lessons incorporating best practices and provided by FranklinCovey.

Greeting Others: First impressions are important, and most interactions begin with a greeting. A global-minded student is aware of cultural diversity and demonstrate awareness of various cultures.
Communication Etiquette:An emotionally intelligent student can communicate with clarity and purpose through the most-used modes of communication: text, phone and email.
Resume Preparation:The Ideal Graduate creates a stellar resume that allows the student to demonstrate being a lifelong learn-er.
Interview Skills:The Ideal Graduate advocates for their career through awareness of interview dress codes and strong interview skills.
Work Ethic:A global-minded graduate contributes to the prosperity of the workplace by demonstrating characteristics of work ethic. The student understands that punctuality and honesty are important characteristics of being a responsible team member.

Engaging in community service provides students the opportunity to become active members of their community, has a positive impact on society and provides a service to those who need it most. Students have many opportunities to complete their community service requirement. The hours may be completed in the community at large or at school. Any activity where the student volunteers their time is acceptable, provided they receive no monetary compensation or a grade/credit.
The following are some examples of activities that would qualify as community service:
• Volunteering at a nursing home • Helping at an animal shelter • Volunteering with a church group • Service activities with organizations like Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. • Working with a group to clean up a local park • Volunteer work in classrooms, athletic events, school plays, etc.
This is not an inclusive list and there are many other activities that would qualify for community service.
