SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) has become a peer leadership organization open to all students. SADD provides students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, including steroids and tobacco, impaired driving, not wearing

a seatbelt, and teen violence.

SADD recognizes that the pressures on young people to drink, use illicit drugs and engage in other unhealthy behaviors are strong. SADD seeks not to punish or alienate those students who make unfortunate choices but rather aims to inform, educate, support and empower

Model United Nations

Model UN is a simulation of the United Nations in

which students represent delegations of different UN committees.

Students research and express political positions based on the

actual policies of the country they represent. In a conference or

“competition”, students learn about and debate current world

issues. Through diplomacy and negotiation, students work with

other countries to form resolutions to the world conflicts that they

are debating. The students (delegates) create draft resolutions,

formulate plot strategies, negotiate with supporters and

adversaries, and use the UN’s rules of parliamentary procedure to

solve conflicts through “international cooperation.”

Meetings: Meetings are usually once a week. Students usually

meet on Fridays until 4:00 or 4:30pm, but that day may change

from year to year. The meetings usually consist of practice

simulations that help students prepare for their assigned topics.

Parliamentary procedure, public speaking, and debate are usually

what the meetings are for. The research and preparation for the

assigned topics are typically done outside of the meetings.

Team Selection: There is no particular limit of students that can

participate.

Activities:

Researching your country and that country’s policies

Researching how the UN works and the various

committees involved

Having fun as well as serious simulations - to practice

speech giving and parliamentary procedure

Working on proper negotiating skills and practicing

diplomacy

Why you should participate:

Students should participate because it promotes interest in

international relations and related subjects. Students engage in

problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, diplomacy, and

communication skills. Model UN is also an excellent way to meet

new people and form great relationships with many students from

different schools and/or states. Because of all of the benefits of

Model UN, IT IS ALSO ONE OF THE MOST VALUED

ACTIVITIES ON COLLEGE APPLICATIONS/RESUMES.
