Strutu & Tie Method.1.) Find the struts and ties. draw a line diagram of the simplest possible truss which satisfies the given loads under equilibrium with the following conditions satisfied :a) Concrete should take only compresion & steel only Tension. This means that locations where you have your botton & topreinforcement should be the location of ties. Diagonal Tension members can be assumed only if they resolve into tension at theprovided reinforcement. In a nut shell Ties will always be in the plane of the reinforcement.b) The truss should satisfy equilibrium under thegiven loads and should be Non-Redundant. Meaning you should be able to findthe forces through simple hand analysis. 2.) Calculate the forces in Ties & Struts. Once the forces are calculated, calculate the Tie reinforcement.3.) Calculate the permissible stresses at the nodal Zones. Based on the size of the pile cap plate assume your into the plane of the truss depth of the struts & ties.4.) Based on the permissible nodal stresses, calculate the area of Strut required to transfer the compression to the node. Based on this area and the in plane width( pile cap plate size) calculate the height of the Tie.
