The SEAU Board of Directors would like to invite you to the 2013 1st Annual SEAU Education Conference to be held at Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Campus in Sandy, Utah on February 26th & 27th, 2013.

The topics to be discussed have been carefully selected and nationally recognized instructors have been retained to provide state-of-the-art training at this conference. Each attendee will receive 7.0 Professional Development Hours (PDH) per day.

This conference has been specifically designed for the education of all Utah Licensed structural engineers. The information presented will provide an awareness of building code design provisions pertinent to structural engineers at all industry levels.

A lot of time has gone into setting up these classes, in arranging the venue, in soliciting vendors and all for the benefit of you, our members. Breakfast, breaks, and lunches will be provided and are included in the conference fees. We hope you will make every effort to attend and that you will share this announcement with others whom you feel may benefit from attending.

Course Descriptions (Day 1):

ADVANCED TRACK - Concrete Seismic Design and Detailing

Instructor: S.K. GHOSH

This seminar will focus on the seismic design and detailing requirements covered in Chapter 21 of ACI 318-11. It will also discuss many of the pertinent changes made in the ACI 318-11 standard versus the previous versions. One of the topics that will be covered in detail is the new anchor design requirements provided in Appendix ‘D’ of ACI 318 including the new provisions for adhesive anchors. Registered attendees will receive bound copies of seminar handouts as well as 7.0 Professional Development Hours.

LIGHT FRAME TRACK - Wood-Framed Component Design

Instructors: ALICIA EIKENBERRY, WENDY ALLEN & CHRIS KIMBALL

This will be the first of a two-day course. The first day covers the design of specific components. The new 2012 NDS provisions will be discussed as well as AF&PA SDWPS. Topics will include: Beam and column design, roof design, floor design, foundation design, sill anchorage, truss bracing, segmented shearwalls, perforated shearwalls, force-transfer shearwalls, multi-story shearwalls and an overview of engineered wood products. Registered attendees will receive bound copies of seminar handouts as well as 7.0 Professional Development Hours.

Course Descriptions (Day 2):

ADVANCED TRACK - Seismic Braced Frames – Design Concepts & Connections

Instructor: RAFAEL SABELLI

This seminar will discuss the expected behavior of Special Concentrically Braced Frames, Ordinary Concentrically Braced Frames, Eccentrically Braced Frames and Buckling-Restrained Braced Frames under seismic loading. Member and connection design requirements for each of the braced frame systems will be covered and design examples of braced frame member and connection design will be reviewed. Registered attendees will receive bound copies of seminar handouts as well as 7.0 PDH.

LIGHT FRAME TRACK - Wood-Framed Load Path Design:

Instructors: ALICIA EIKENBERRY & WENDY ALLEN

This will be the second of a two-day course. The second day will discuss the complete load path and how to tie all components together. Topics will include: Determining wind and seismic loads using ASCE 7-10, an overview of AF&PA SDWPS, structural irregularity considerations, distribution of the design base shear, rigid and flexible diaphragm requirements, vertical resisting elements, diaphragm design, collector design, connection design, detailing and load path requirements. Registered attendees will receive bound copies of seminar handouts as well as 7.0 Professional Development Hours.
