University PMU Network: Source of Synchronized Phasor Measurements from Nordic Grid

•  Each   partner   university  deployed   a   PMU   with   a  local  PDC  

•  PMUs  from  SEL,  ABB  or  the  NI-­‐cRIO  

•  PDC  from  SEL  •  Distributed   Architecture  

instead   of   Centralized  Architecture  (Single  PDC)  

•  Advantage:   Reliability,  Local  Archiving

•  The Icelandic power system is heavily loaded. –  Idea: Control the Load in Aluminum smelters in the systems

for fault cases using PMU measurements.

Research Plan

•  Develop Load Control Algorithm

•  Test using the two area Kundur system. –  In RT-SIL –  In RT-HIL

•  Deploy load control algorithm in an external controller, NI-cRIO (Compact Reconfigurable I/O Controller).

•  Adapt the load control algorithm with different synchrophasor measurements (e.g. Voltage magnitude, voltage angle difference etc.)
