CAPTAIN’S LOG
Dear Parents, Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!
Please remember the motto “Strive to arrive by 7:35”. If you arrive at school and the side doors are closed, it’s after 7:40. Safety is one of our major expectations at Hugo Schmidt. (The S in SAILOR stands for safety first.) Parents should come up to the office and fill out a slip for your student and then ring the bell. Bag breakfast will be giv-en at the door or in the office from 7:35 to 8am. Please plan accord-ingly if you arrive after 8am.
We continue to look for ways to keep you informed of everything that is happening at school. A Sunday night parent link is sent high-lighting what will happen the following week. The front office can help you with any problems. You will continue to receive flyers through PeachJar.
One of our goals for Schmidt Sailors is to come to school dressed for success and ready to learn. We know how a person is dressed affects his/her attitude and behavior. School is seen as a workplace for teach-ing and learning when uniforms are worn. Our uniform consists of red, white or navy polo shirts and khaki, blue bottoms and blue or black denim (no holes, frays or cut-offs).
Our theme for the year is “Sailing to New Horizons” at Hugo Schmidt Elementary. It is our mission for all students to become suc-cessful learners. As a Title I school, we will continue to implement our “Sail to Success” program which benefits all students.
I look forward to working with you
Jan Kelly, Principal

Hello Schmidt Sailors,
I am Mrs. Lugo, the media specialist here at Schmidt. I am looking forward to seeing all of your students this year in the library. We have a lot of fun and exciting things planned. We will begin with media orientations, hopefully this week. In October, I will be introducing our SLAM books and activities. This is going to be a great year in the Schmidt library! If you have questions, email me anytime.

Welcome Back Sailors! My name is Mrs. Sepulveda and I am your School Counselor. I am here to help your child with academics as well as personal and social development. If you have any questions or concerns, you may reach me at 813-651-2110, ext. 231.
Schmidt Elementary is a PBIS Model school, which means we focus on Positive Behaviors. We start by clearly teaching every student the Sailor Expectations:
Students who demonstrate Sailor Expecta-tions are rewarded with Sailor Sea dol-lars. Students save their Sailor Sea dollars to purchase all sorts of fun items from their teacher’s sailor store. I look forward to work with you all!
