1. Prior to using the tool, make sure itis unloaded and then do the functionalcheck:Check the functioningof the tool,without a powder load or fastener, bypushing down against the work surface,making sure the groove on the barrelalignswith themarkingson the receiver.Repeatthisseveraltimestoinsuretoolisoperatingproperly.

2. Always check the material being fastened into, by performing the CenterPunchTest:Usingafastenerasacenterpunch,strikethefasteneragainsttheworksurfaceusinganaveragehammerblowandchecktheresults.Weareyeprotectionwhileperformingthistest.

3. Ifthebasematerialissuitableforpowderactuated fasteners,makea test fasteningintoasuitablebasematerialwithanumber2(brown),orlighterload.Ifthenumber2loaddoesnotfullysetthefastener,trythenext higher power load until the properlevel is found. Failure to properly testfiretodeterminecorrectpowerlevelmayresultinoverpoweringthefastener,caus-ingittopasscompletelythroughtheworkmaterial, injuring someone on the otherside.Overpoweringthefastenermayalsodamagethetool.

NOTE: Duo-Fast loads are designed for use with Duo-Fast tools. Do not attempt to use other power loads. Doing so may lead to unintentional load discharge as well as damage to the tool. This tool is NOT designed to use red (5) or purple (6) power level loads. Using red (5) or purple (6) loads can result in serious injury to the operator or bystanders.

3. Never fire the tool without a fastener.Thepistonwillprotrude fromthemuzzleof the tool, enter the work surface and possiblycauseinjurytotheoperatororabystander. Firing without a fastener mayalsodamagethetool.

4. Alwaysholdthetoolperpendiculartothework surface to avoid serious injury ordeath from ricocheting fasteners. Use aspallguard*wheneverpossible.

5. Neversetafastenertooclosetoanotherfastening or a free edge. This can causethe fastener to ricochet. Always followthe minimum spacing and edge distancerequirements.

6. Never fire intoveryhardorbrittlemate-rials such as cast iron, tile, glass orrock.Thesematerialscanshatter,causingsharpfragmentsand/orthefastenertoflyfreely.

1. A powder actuated fastener, after it hasbeeninstalled,isconsideredapermanentfastening.Donotattempttopullafasteneroutofconcreteorsteel.Attemptingtodosomayresultinseriousinjury.

Ifthetoolfailstofire,holdthetoolfirmlyagainstthematerialfor30seconds.Removethe tool fromtheworksurface,open thebarreltoresetthepiston.Re-chambertheloadandrepeatfiringsequence.Ifthetoolfails to fire again, hold for 30 seconds,unloadthetool,andthendiscardtheloadinto a bucket of water. Never attemptto pry an unfired load out of the tool. Call the Technical Department at 1-877-489-2726forassistance.

OPERATIONCheckthefunctioningofthetool,without a powder load or fastenerinthetool,bypushingdownagainsttheworksurface,checkingtobesurethegrooveportionofthebarrelalignswith thearrowson the toolbody.Functionunloaded toolseveraltimesandinsurethatthebreechpartsandfiringmechanismoperatefreelybeforefasteningwiththetool.

1. Pointthetoolinasafedirectionandslidethe barrel forward with your other hand.Thisaction resets thepiston for thenextfastening.Lossofpowermaybetheresultofanimproperlyresetpiston.

2. Placea fastener,pointout, into the frontend of the barrel until the plastic flutedtip fits inside. Always load the fastener before inserting the power load to prevent accidental discharge.Donotuseexcessiveforcewheninsertingthefastener.Stopifexcessiveforceisrequiredandcall1-877-489-2726fortechnicalassistance.

3. Insert thepowder loadaftermakingsurethechamberisclear.Thepowderloadwillnot fullysetuntil the tool iscompressedagainst the work surface. Always startwiththelowestlevelandincreaseuntiltheproperlevelisfound.Note: Overpowering a fastener into steel or concrete is dangerous.

Note:Beforemakingthefastening,thebasematerialshouldbecenterpunchtestedforsuitabilityofpowderactuatedfastenings(seepg.2).

4. Close tool by pulling the barrel back tothe semi-closed position. Never attemptto close the tool by exerting force on thefrontofthebarrel.Neverplaceyourfingersor hands over the muzzle end of the bar-rel.Theproperpositionofthehandsandfingersareshownintheillustration.

5.With the tool in the semi-closed position,place it against thematerial tobe fastened.Holdthetoolfirmlyat90ºwithonehandandcompletely depress, check to be sure thegrooveonthebarrelalignswiththemarkingonthereceiver.

6. Using a one pound hammer, strike the firingpinbuttonwithasharp, firmblow.If the tool fails to fire, follow the misfire procedureonpage5.

Note: It is important to strike the firing pin button firmly and squarely. A light blow or one off-center may not activate the load, however it will jar the piston out of position which will cause a reduction in power. (See Troubleshooting, page 10.)

7. Toprepareforthenextfastening,pointthetoolinasafedirection,andslidethebarrelfirmly forward.This actionejects the firedloadoutofthetoolandproperlyresetsthepiston.The tool isnow ready for thenextfastening.

TOOL FAILS TO FIREThere are three causes for most all misfires.

INCONSISTENT FASTENER SETTINGThe major reason for inconsistent fastening is the improper position of the piston. There are two reasons for an improperly positioned piston:

1. Failuretocompletelyresetthepiston.

2. Amissedhitoftherearbutton.

Inbothcasesthebarrelmustbefullyextendedtoresetthepiston.

Note: It is a good practice to fully extend the barrel and re-chamber the load after the tool is improperly struck causing a misfire, and after the misfire procedure has been followed.

Note: When overdrive occurs, the piston may jam into the front barrel. In this case be sure the tool is unloaded, turn the tool upside down and place on the work surface. Strike the exposed piston with a hammer until it moves downward into the barrel. Reset the piston. Wear safety goggles when performing this task.

When fastening into concrete always maintain a minimum 3" spacing betweenfasteningsand3"fromanyfreeedge.Penetrationintoconcreteshouldalwaysbe1"minimum(seepage12,"HowtoSelectaPowderActuatedFastener").Theconcretethicknessshouldbeatleast3timesthepenetrationdepth.
