Streetscape ? Do you know what a Streetscape is?

? Did you know that the City of Manassas has approved an expenditure of $11 million to

construct a Streetscape from Wellington Road to Prince William Street?

? Did you know that the City of Manassas is going to eliminate two lanes from Wellington

Road to Prince William Street to create this streetscape? There will only be one lane of

traffic in each direction, even though there will be a police department right in the middle.

? Did you know that the City of Manassas has approved a roundabout at the only light in

Georgetown South at the corner of Byrd and Grant?

? Did you receive any notice in the mail about any of this regarding the streetscape?

? Are you in favor of this plan?

The City cites the following reasons for the streetscape.

$ Enhance overall street appearance – Would making the other side of the street

across from Georgetown South more attractive achieve the same goal?

$ Extend boulevard streetscape treatments similar to those found on the northern end

of Grant Avenue What is the population on the northern end of Grant versus that

on the southern end? Georgetown South alone has over 4,000 residents. Why do

North and South have to look alike? How does this benefit the people of the

southern end?

$ Create a downtown gateway Do the people of Georgetown South have a reason to

go to Old Town? What is there for them?

$ Improve pedestrian and bicycle facilities How many people would walk or bike to

Old Town if they could?

$ Upsize water main This is being done to accommodate the new police department.

$ Underground electrical This is being done to accommodate the new police

department.

$ Install new street lighting Can’t this be done without taking away two lanes of

traffic?

Here’s the BOTTOM LINE

No one from the City asked the residents of

Georgetown South, the most proximate neighbor to

this traffic “diet”, traffic roundabout and

beautification scheme what they thought about it.

Paisaje Urbano ? ¿Sabes que es un paisaje urbano?
