How can you access the SKIL cards?During SKIL sessions hosted by departments.In the Library.On Moodle by following the Independent Learning tab.Displayed on the wall in common study areas.

You can earn certificates of achievement Students can use the cards at school or at home. From October they can find them at lunch time sessions hosted by departments, they will be in the library and displayed on the wall in common study areas.They can access them right now at home via Moodle.To acknowledge their success at developing better Independent Learning strategies then they can earn certificates of achievement. NEED HELP? YEAR 13 SKIL MENTORS ARE HERE TO HELP. Strategies & Knowledge for Independent Learning

SKIL is designed to provide you with instructions on how to learn independently regardless of the subject you are studying. Just follow the instructions on the cards.

SKIL cards each contain a list of easy instructions on how to carry out different effective learning strategies. They can be accessed in a number of different ways.During SKIL sessions hosted by your subject department.During Open SKIL sessions. On Moodle by following the Independent Learning tab at the bottom of the home page.Displayed on the wall in common study areas.Given by your teacher.They can be used for:Individual learningLearning in study groupsLearning in friendship groupsLearning at homeLearning in study periodsDoing homeworkFor tasks in class

You can gain certificates to show & celebrate the effort and achievement you put into developing your SKIL by providing evidence outlined in this and other cards. Once you have collected all the evidence return it to your SKIL coordinator or Dr. Ravetz. There are three certificates to collect:BronzeSilver GoldYou can also go one step further and become a SKIL mentor and gain the Platinum & Platinum Plus certificates.BRONZE CERTIFICATE EVIDENCEName: _______________Form: __________

11The main difference between school and university is that on your degree programme you are expected to take responsibility for your own learning.

Learning how to learn independently is a vital bridge between school and university education but not necessarily a skill that comes naturally.
