The 6-12 ELA/Literacy training is divided into ELA, and Literacy for Science, Social Studies and CTE

In ELA/Literacy training, school teams must include representation from the literacy areas

• Of the 10 typical middle school allocations, a maximum of 6 seats are allotted for ELA participants. At least 4 participants must register in literacy areas (Science, Social Studies, CTE).

• Of the 12 typical high school allocations, a maximum of 6 seats are allotted for ELA participants. At least 6 participants must register in literacy areas (Science, Social Studies, CTE).

In addition to school team allocations, district staff are also allocated seats at each training

• We are using the same online registration system used for the LEAD and TETC Conferences, as well as other TN Core trainings

• Registration can be completed for a group or for an individual

The TNCore team will monitor registration closely across all sites

• There will not be any waitlists for summer training sites

• An update about available space at all sites will be posted on May 6 (www.tncore.org) for a final registration push

• If significant capacity is available at some sites, the TNCore team will announce an additional allocation per school team in the May 6 update

• Districts may opt to select one registration coordinator to receive the monthly updates by completing this form by Feb. 20. If no one is selected, the updates will be sent to the Director of Schools

• District and school information must be entered in a consistent manner. Consistent data entry will assist greatly in navigating the updates sent to your district

FAQs

Q: Will the 3-8 math training be a repeat of last summer’s training?

No, the Summer 2013 content will build on the content from last summer’s training. Since the content will reinforce the work from last summer, the training is open to both those who attended last summer and those who did not attend.

Q: Should administrators attend?

Administrators are not required to attend summer training with their staff. If attending, administrators should be thoughtful about attending the content area that is the highest priority for their building.

Note that there will not be an administrator track this summer; all administrators would attend with a single content and grade level area throughout the training.

FAQs

Q: Can I register a group?

Yes, a single user can register a group. The individual who initiates the registration will then be the only user able to log in and make modifications. This user will also be able to see the registration for the full group.

Q: Can I modify the initial registration?

Yes, modifications can be made through the online registration system until May 24. Detailed instructions for making modifications are available on www.tncore.org/register. Please remember that group registrations can only be modified by the individual who completes the group registration.

FAQs

Q: Should schools assign a single registration coordinator?

Assigning one individual to coordinate training registration at each school is suggested as a best practice. TN Core will not collect the information of school coordinators, but districts may wish to do so in order to share the monthly district reports.

Q: Can school teams receive registration updates?

Monthly updates will only be sent by district; however, the TNCore team is happy to assist individuals or groups seeking information about their registration. Please contact us at [email protected].

FAQs

Q: Can I track registration for my district?

Individuals who register a group are able to view the registration for the entire group; however, you will not be able to view the registrations of other groups. The TN Core team will provide updates at the end of each month to each district. The updates will be sent to the representative you select through this form. If you would like to discuss additional reporting, please contact [email protected].

Q: Are stipends or travel provided for teachers to attend?

The TDOE is offering the summer training free of charge to districts, but is unable to cover stipends or travel for attendees. Some districts have chosen to offer these funds to their teachers.

FAQs

Q: Will our district receive a list of who attended training for our records?

Yes, the TNCore team will process sign-in sheets from the summer trainings to have a complete record of attendance available for districts by early Fall. Please emphasize the importance of signing-in to your teachers so that our records will accurately reflect their attendance. Certificates of completion will only be given to those who attend the entire training.

Q: How do math or literacy coaches fit in to school team allocations?

Coaches and interventionists are welcomed to attend summer training. School teams may use their “interventionist” seat or a grade-level representative space for a coach. If a coach serves multiple schools, the district may wish to use district allocation for the coach’s attendance.

FAQs

Q: Can our school team attend during different weeks?

There is not an explicit school team time component to this summer’s training, but there is certainly power in school teams attending together. It is recommended that school teams attend together but allowable to attend across different weeks.

Q: Can I attend training outside my CORE region?

Yes – you are able to attend the training site that is most convenient for you, even if the site is in a different region.

FAQs

Q: I can only attend part of the training. Can I still earn credit?

No. Certificates of completion will only be issued to participants who complete the entire training program. Sign-in is required in the morning and afternoon of each training day.

Q: What are the hours of each training day?

Specific agendas will be provided at least one month in advance of all training programs. Agendas will be available on www.tncore.org and emailed directly to participants. Training days will begin no earlier than 8 a.m. and conclude no later than 4:30 p.m.

FAQs

Q: Do school team allocations depend on the structure of my school (i.e. 5-8 v. 6-8 middle school)?

All training offerings are specific to a subject and grade-level or grade-band to match the structure of the Common Core State Standards. School teams should calculate their number of seats based on their school structure.

Q: Are fourth and fifth grade teachers attending reading or English language arts training?

Fourth and fifth grade teachers will attend English language arts training, while Kindergarten to third grade teachers will experience a training focused on reading. Both trainings are during the same dates and hosted at the same sites, and both trainings will follow the same schedule.
