First-Person Point of View• The narrator is a character
the story.
• Uses the words “I” “me” “mine.”
• When reading stories in the first person, we need to realize that what the narrator is recounting might not be the objective truth
• We should question the trustworthiness of the accounting
Third-Person Point of View• The narrative voice is
outside the action. • The narrator is not one
of the characters in the story.
• Words like “he” or “she” refer to the main character.
• This point of view helps us share that character’s reactions to the story’s events.
Omniscient Point of View
• The all-knowing point of view.
• The narrator is above the action, looking down on it like a god and sees into the minds of all of the characters.
• This narrator can tell you everything about all the characters, even their most private thoughts.
