1. SMHV initiates VSS backup of VMs.

2. SMHV provides integration with Microsoft Hyper-V VSS writer to quiesce the Hyper-V VMs before taking a application consistent Snapshot of the VM

3. SMHV implements a VSS requestor component to coordinate the backup process and create a consistent snapshot in Data ONTAP using VSS Hardware Provider for Data ONTAP LUNs

4. VSS framework requests provider to mount LUNs from snapshot.

5. Hyper-V writer recovers data on the LUNs and brings it to the state of software snapshot (taken in step 2).

6. VSS provider takes second snapshot of LUNs and dismounts LUNs from snapshot.VM1
