STONEWALL TEACHERS GIVING BACK!
MARCH 2019 STONEWALL INSIDER EDITION #7
Lighthouse Ministries is an organization that exists to serve the homeless and food insecure population of Lexington.
This is done through several different ministries, one being Dining with Dignity. Stonewall teachers gather there at least
once a month to make and serve dinner and visit with guests. Check out some of our wonderful teachers below (there
are other teachers not pictured that participate)! Special thanks to Ms. Bruce(3rd grade teacher) for sharing this
amazing volunteer work from our Stonewall teachers! This charity is near and dear to her heart!
AN AMAZING SPIRIT NIGHT AT CULVER’S!
Our February Culver’s Spririt Night was tons of fun! We made a profit of $482.95! Culver’s now requires that
our school provide volunteers to deliver food and clean tables during spirit events. Special thanks to the
fantastic group of volunteers that ROCKED spirit night! And a special shout out to 2nd grader Audrey Baxter,
who was an amazing helper to our volunteers!! Those who attended are pretty sure our PTA President had to
be wearing roller skates —thanks for all you do Amy!! Hmmm...isn’t that Ms. Bruce and Ms. Vogler!!!
These are only a few of the teachers that give back!
Mrs. Albrecht, Mrs. Hutchins, Ms. Bruce, Mrs. Stephens, Ms. Floyd, Mrs. Vogler,
Ms. Hendrie, Mrs. Churchill, Mrs. Peavler, and Mrs. Hoffner! Look at those smiling faces!
IT FEELS SO GREAT TO VOLUNTEER!

coordinate this event! And heartfelt thanks to our amazing art teacher, Ms. Worley, for putting so much time and
effort to create the art gallery, as well as to decorate the halls with amazing student artwork! There was an
endless amount of parent, community and student volunteers to make this night possible!! Bravo everyone!

A NOTE FROM OUR PTA PRESIDENT Spring is in the air, Stonewall families! Our PTA and school community have so many wonder-ful events planned for the coming month. March is National Reading Month and Stonewall will celebrate with our first ever READ – A- THON! Beginning March 4th, you can earn money for our school just by READING (check out details in the newsletter). We end the month with our Show Us Your Talent Show (March 29th 6-8 pm). Please see the newsletter for more infor-mation about how you can register for this event (you must submit your talent show form to Mr. Gatliff by MONDAY, MARCH 25th for consideration).
Looking forward, we wanted to extend an invitation to all our Stonewall parents/guardians, to consider becoming a PTA officer for the 2019-20 school year. We NEED lots of new faces, new ideas and new energy to keep our organization representative of our school and moving in innovative directions. We have FOUR Executive Board positions available (President, Fundrais-ing, Programs and Secretary) for next year (see details about each position in the newsletter). If you’d like to see what we’re all about, please join us for our next monthly on Monday, March 18th @6:30 in the cafeteria. Children are always welcome, snacks will be provided and we limit the meetings to one hour. This is a great way to see the many things PTA does for our school!
Five reasons to become involved in PTA
It’s good for your student! Research shows that children whose parents are involved in their school make better grades and have fewer disciplinary problems at school.
It’s important to the school. We create a caring and supportive atmosphere.
You’ll get connected. There’s no better way to know what’s going on at school than to be a member of PTA.
You’ll be part of a great network. PTA is a great resource for families on a variety of topics.
You’ll make a difference!
As always, please let me know if you have questions or concerns.
Amy Recktenwald, PTA President, [email protected]
Dear Parents, Starting March 4th we will kickoff our Read-a-thon Spring Fundraiser in correlation with Read Across America Day. We are excited to streamline our fundraiser by going online. You will now be able to reach out to friends and family by email, Facebook, and Twitter, instead of going door-to-door, tracking commitments, and handling checks. Simply search and find your participant's online pledge page here: https://99pledges.com/fund/stonewall2019 You do not need to login or change anything. Simply make a donation for whatever you can, and share your partici-pant's link with friends and family. Here is some sample sharing text: "NAME is participating in a fundraiser, and would love your support. If you'd like to donate, you can do so online at the following link: PLEDGE PAGE URL (insert your child's specific page link) Please know that no amount is too small and all donations are truly appreciated! MARCH 2019 STONEWALL INSIDER EDITION #7
WE’RE STILL #1 IN THE DISTRICT FOR BOX TOPS!!!
MARCH BOX TOPS UPDATE!
We’ve now collected more than 19,600 Box Tops this school year. Keep up the good work Stallions!
Mrs. Corman’s 2nd grade class had the most Box Tops (337) for the month and will win a classroom party of their choosing. It’s their second win of the year. Ms. Ford’s 2nd grade class was closing in on them near the end of the month with just 29 less and will get a party also. Mrs. Brashear and Mrs. Johnson’s 3nd grade class came in third. Way to go 2/3 hallway!
The most recent Staff Box Tops Contest prize. a $60 gift card to Massage Envy, was won by Ms. Dalton just be-fore Valentine’s Day. The prize for the end of March is a $25 gift card to Home Goods.
The kids are really enjoying all the “gently used” treasures donated to our Treasure Boxes, so thanks a bunch and keep sending them in when you need to clean out at home. (I apologize if any child is bringing back the stuff you’ve sent in to us.)
We keep doing better and moving up the rankings, and we’re still # 1 in our local area (out of 202 schools), # 3 in Kentucky (1,454 schools), and now # 206 in the nation. There are a record num-ber 98,117 schools participating in the Box Tops for Education Program! Our Stonewall families are just great sending in Box Tops day after day. Remember – every 10 Box Tops is $1 cash for our school, and a trip to the Treasure Box. Don’t forget about “2-Fer Day“ on Tuesdays. Your little Box Tops collectors know about that.
Thanks so much for your continued support!
Bruce Moore, Box Tops Coordinator
On behalf of the Stonewall PTA…..
THANKS TO ALL THE BOX TOPS STUDENT HELPERS!
THANKS TO ALL THE STONEWALL FAMILIES WHO DILIGENTLY TURN IN BOX TOPS!
THANKS TO MR. MOORE FOR KEEPING TRACK OF OVER 19,000+ BOX TOPS!! NOW THAT’S A JOB!!
Remember that this program earns thousands for Stonewall each school year!!
A few of Mr. Moore’s “crazy fun” Box Tops crew!!
