“We have spent the last 12 years putting together over 90 acres of land with

the intention of creating a true master-planned community that will become the

residential and commercial centre for Wasaga Beach,” says Mark Crowe, a principal

in Stonebridge Building Group. “We traveled all over North America for ideas on

how we could make Stonebridge stand out in the way that famous coastal towns

such as Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Granville Island in Vancouver do. We

studied the architecture of Robert Stern, and we combined elements from these

examples with Wasaga Beach’s visual heritage from the early 20th century. The

result will be a community of modern commercial businesses and residences with

porches, gambrel roofs and other architectural highlights that hint at the past.”

A town centre with a community as it’s heart.

in the Communityactive

www.stonebridgetowncentre.com 7

The vision for the Stonebridge Town Centre is a multi-layered community that all Wasaga Beach residents can enjoy throughout the year.

Last December, the community hosted a family Christmas party which featured a horse drawn sleigh ride, ice sculptors, fi re dancers, games, prizes, Christmas carols, and a 20-foot Christmas tree lit by Mayor Cal Patterson. Stonebridge has presented movies in the park, hosted Snowman Mania, and the Wasaga Beach “Spring Fever” Motorcycle Rally.

More plans for this unique neighbourhood include a new 16,000 square-foot Wasaga Beach Public Library, which is expected to include computers for public access, archival materials, meeting rooms, and children’s programs. The community is enriched by cultural elements that bring people to the centre to learn, be entertained, and to enjoy each others company.

WHAT’S NEW

The newest addition to the Stonebridge Town Centre, One Market Lane, is a 2-storey 25,000 square foot building. Architecturally designed so that it has storefronts on all sides, the multi use retail building uses an eclectic mix of building materials that marks the signature style used within the Centre. Stone, brick, stucco, sloped roofl ines and Hardie board are widely used to maintain the costal industrial look that is unique to the Centre.

An interior corridor through One Market Lane links pedestrians walking along Stonebridge Blvd. to the pedestrian space named The Town Commons, located at the centre of the retail complex. The Town Commons offers shoppers and visitors a place to meet, relax, drink their coffee, eat their lunch, play a game of chess or catch the local bus. Soon the main fl oor will be home to a 4,000 square foot Bulk Barn, a 1,000 square foot Century 21 offi ce space and a 2,000 square foot European Deli. On the second fl oor, which is serviced by an elevator, you will fi nd additional offi ces for Century 21 and Dr. Gohbrial’s dental offi ce. Stonebridge by the Bay

An inspired lifestyleStonebridge by the Bay is Wasaga Beach’s newest four season, Master Planned Community of thoughtfully crafted bungalow and two storey villas, which range in size from 961 square feet to 1,990 square feet. It’s no surprise that façades at Stonebridge By The Bay have elements of old Wasaga Beach, and Cape Cod: Builder/Developer Mark Crowe and his team looked to the architecture of Robert Stern for inspiration.

This is an attractive neighbourhood with charming cottage like, breezy streetscapes. Homes may have, depending on the model, board and batten, or shiplap cement board siding with cultured stone accents, dormers, columns, covered porches, covered

balconies, peaked gables, cedar shake-like trim, décor windows, bay windows, sidelights, transoms, brackets, arches, Juliet balconies and boxed windows. All homes have ENERGY STAR® features.

Close to shopping, recreation, trails, ponds, and woodlands, Stonebridge by the Bay is located at the junction of River Road West and Main Street, and is within walking distance of the world’s longest freshwater beach. The community features a private Beach Club, exclusive use of a heated salt water pool and cabana, and walking trails throughout the extensive property.

Special outdoor concerts at the music pavilion

The roof, which features 2 gables, is an evergreen multi-rib metal roof that is supported by 8” round columns. The tongue and groove interior ceiling is made of southern yellow pine, which makes for a warm fi nish and offers great acoustic qualities. The Music Pavilion is further accented with an ornamental and protective railing along 5 sides. The shelter is supported on its foundation by over 15 truckloads of concrete with 5 truckloads of armourstone weighing over 200,000 lbs. The Music Pavilion was prefabricated by Poligon Park Architecture and then assembled on-site. So far, the pavilion has hosted Canada Day events, a Grand Opening Ceremony featuring The Simcoe Band, as well as many visitors just taking a look.

TRAILS AND PONDS

Stonebridge has over 2.1 km of walking trails that wind through the unprecedented number of new and mature trees. A six acre woodlot has been preserved and more than 250 new mature trees have been transplanted into the community so far. The multi-use trail system links Serenity and Walden ponds within this bayside community, and connect with the Town’s greater bike and walking trail system.

With the purchase of additional lands to the east, the developers were able to create a natural heritage park, Savannah Grove Park. The park offers trails through an environmental interpretive area focusing on the former prairie grasslands and savannahs that once dominated the area. Interpretive nature signs will be found throughout the trail system helping visitors understand the complex ecological system within the community.

ROOM TO RUN

Space is the fundamental medium of landscape design. As any child will demonstrate, wide open spaces are integral to a pleasing environment. While careful attention to detail is key at Stonebridge, from the light standards to the stone entry gates and the architectural details featured in every home, the wide open spaces available in the 22.75 acres of parkland, are what give it all room to breathe.
