    Remember that you have joined a nonprofit privatemembership organization. The staff are charged with beingresponsible fiduciaries of your membership dues and yourdonations and, with the help of policy volunteers, we makedecisions about operating expenses, rates, f inancialassistance, and community service. This system ensuresthat we make the best possible decisions about our programofferings, equipment, staff ing, and facility needs.

    As a membership organization, we make every effort toprovide you with a positive experience from the momentyou walk in to the moment you walk out. We rely on you toshare your ideas and provide us with feedback. We also rely

    on you to help us with our work through volunteerism, forwhich there are many opportunities!

    Finally, we are a private organization which means that ourprograms and services are available to members only.     General Facility MembershipInformation & Policies

    Accessibility StatementThe Stonestown Family YMCA supports, to the best of its resources, the intent and spiritof the Americans with Disabilities Act. Our facilities are wheelchair accessible throughout theentire building. Our Family/Handicapped Locker Room is located on the first floor andleads to our pool. We have a lift in the swimming pool.

    A.W.A.Y. (Always Welcome at YMCA) PolicyOur traveling members can use any of over 2,500 YMCAs in the world either free or for aminimal daily rate. Outside the San Francisco Association, many branches allow free use forfellow YMCA members. Check with the branch you wish to visit.

    Using Other YMCAsStonestown Family YMCA Facility Members may use other San Francisco AssociationYMCAs for a small drop-in rate of $3.00 per visit. Our association includes the followingYMCA facility branches: Buchanan, Shih Yu-Lang, Chinatown, Embarcadero, Marin,Peninsula Family, Presidio, and Richmond District.

    Check-in PolicyAll members, guests, or class part icipants must check in at the Courtesy Counter before usingthe fitness facilities. Members must present their membership cards at check-in time.

    Child WatchBabysitting services are available for children (ages 8 ee through 10 yea) of adultsparticipating in programs at this YMCA. Parent must be on premises. Members may use the

    facility for a maximum of two hours per day. Child Watch payment is made at the CourtesyCounter and the fee can be processed or paid on a monthly or hourly basis. See page 5 for more information

    Guest PassesFacility Members receive FiVE (5) Free Guest Passes annually. The member must accompanythe guest. Members may bring in additional guests for a fee of $6.

    A liability waiver must be signed by parent/guardian prior to using the facility, if the guest isa minor. The guest must have a valid picture I.D.

    Day PassesDay Passes are available for members of other YMCAs and the general public. The guestmust have a valid picture I.D. Guests must be 18 years or older to sign the mandatory release

    of liability. Any guest 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.Guests 14-17 must have the release of liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

    Drop-Off PolicyAll children age 13 and under being dropped off at the YMCA must be participants in one ofour organized activities. If not, they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.Please respect the time frame of the organized activities. Drop-off time is a few minutesbefore the activity starts. Pick-up time is when the activity ends.

    Emergency EvacuationsOn a recurring basis throughout the year, we will beimplementing fire drills and emergency evacuations of our

    building. Members are expected to cease activity immediatelyand leave through the nearest exit or as directed by staf f.

    Gym UsageThe YMCA gymnasium is available for use by our memberswhen it is not in use for scheduled activities. Please wear onlynon-marking athletic shoes.

    Locks/Lockers

    Rental lockers are available on a monthly basis and the fee isadded to your monthly draft.

    A limited number of lockers are available for day use only.You must supply your own lock.Any items left in the lockersovernight will be removed.

    The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

    Membership CardsMembers are required to present their membership card uponentering the YMCA. We issue cards to each YMCA member.If you lose your membership card, you must show photoidentification. Membership cards remain the property of theYMCA. Lost or mutilated cards may be replaced at the cardcenter with proper identification and a replacement fee.

    Membership Cancellation

    A member may terminate membership with a 30-day writtennotice and return of the membership card. A temporary cardwill be issued for the remainder of the month. For annualmemberships, any unused months will be refunded. After thefirst 30 days, joining fees, if applicable, are nonrefundable.

    Membership on Hold (Abeyance)To place a membership on abeyance for other than medicalreasons, a 30-day written notice is necessary. Medical leaverequires a letter from a doctor stating the specific datesmembership is to be placed on leave and will require a releasefrom the doctor at the time membership is to resume.Membership cards must be turned in to the membership office

    prior to the start of leave. Members wishing to use a YMCAduring leave will pay a normal day use fee. Terms: minimum of1 month, maximum of 6 months. This is a llowed only 1 timeper year

    Refund PolicyUpon receipt of written notice and return of membership IDcards, the Stonestown Family YMCA will refund the unused

    portion of annual dues paid by a member. Monthly bank draf tsremain continuous until 30 days written notice is given to theMembership Off ice. Administration fees, if applicable, are notrefundable after the first 30 days. Fees are subject to changewith 30 days written notice.

    Safety and SecurityWe strive to maintain a safe and secure facility. All members,regardless of age, sex, or nationality, will have the sameopportunities to use our YMCA. We welcome people from allwalks of life and provide opportunity for growth in spirit, mindand body through your involvement with our YMCA. We willnot tolerate those who do not respect other members or staff,use foul language, or who purposely try to hurt or steal fromothers. Injuries should be reported immediately to the staffsupervisor on duty.

    Termination for CauseAll members are subject to termination for cause. Examplesinclude transferring of membership cards; physical or sexualharassment toward any YMCA member, guest or employee;illegal or unsafe acts; or violation of membership policies.Reinstatement will be subject to the discretion of the ExecutiveDirector. The YMCA reserves the right to refuse service to amember or guest under certain circumstances.

    YMCA Shutdown (TBA)

    The Stonestown Family YMCA closes its facility for a one-weekperiod during the year to perform general maintenance, repairsand renovations. During this time frame, Stonestown membershave the option to attend other San Francisco YMCA facilitiesFREE of charge. A list of branches available for your use will belocated at the Member Services desk.

    NOTE:the Membership Services desk will be open limitedhours for program sign-ups during the annual shutdown.

    For the safety of all our members, children 13and under must be accompanied by a parent orguardian. No children 13 years of age oryounger may be dropped off at our facilityunless they are enrolled in organized programactivities.

    Strong Communities Campaign 2008-09

    55 years, 55 days, 55 waysEvery year, volunteers gather to help the Stonestown Family YMCA raise much needed support. This year, wemust raise $200,000 in order to continue to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

    Did you know:

    The Stonestown Family YMCA provides FREE afterschool programs to over 1000 children each day?

    Our Senior Center serves hot meals to 50 people eachday, over 1500 each year?

    This winter, the Stonestown Family YMCA will teachover 200 children to swim for FREE?

    We provide financial assistance for all of our programs?Last year, we subsidized over $100,000 in membershipdues for families and seniors in our community.

    We offer a wide variety of programs and services to our seniors,from fitness classes that are adapted to the needs of the activeolder adult, to traveling excursions for the Get-Up-and-Go

    crowd. Some highlights of our Senior Center are:

    Fte Pam that provide both aerobic and strengthtraining components. We have an adapted exercise class forstroke survivors 3 times a week and Wellness classes that focuson the whole body, mind and spirit.

    receat is a major ingredient of our Senior Center. Personalenrichment classes and Community College courses are offered.Dont miss BINGO on Fridays after lunch or our movie of theweek on Wednesdays.

    Heath a ntt is also a vital part of our center. Hotlunches are served daily for a voluntary donation. Healthservices include weekly blood pressure monitoring, various

    monthly health screenings, foot clinics and nutritionalcounseling.

    Class DescriptionsAdaptive Yogaadapts basic Yoga postures to improve theflexibility of our Sit & Be Fit population.

    CardioBalance is a combination of low impact cardiovascularmovements mixed with activities to improve balance, gait, andagility.

    Lite n Livelyis a combination of dance aerobics, strengthtraining, and flexibility movements.

    Sit & Be Fit is a combination of cardiovascular movements,

    strength training, and flexibility training. The movements areprimarily done sitting in a chair.

    Tai Chi/Qigong participants will develop strength, balanceand coordination through breathing patterns and postures.

    reduction, and socialand spiritual growth. Wellness is the ability to endure thestresses of everyday life, and have enough energy left to enjoyones leisure time.

    Group ExerciseTo accomplish this goal of a healthy lifestyle, we have createdprograms and classes to help members focus on eachcomponent of wellness. Group exercise instructors conductphysical activity classes such as f loor aerobics, cycling, aquatics,or dance to cha llenge the heart and lungs. We provide strengthand conditioning classes to help members maintain healthy

    bones and muscles.Note: Group exercise class schedules are subject to change.

    OrientationWith all the wonderful programs and classes come excellentinstructors and wellness coaches who build relationships withmembers. These relationships motivate members to continuethis newfound lifestyle for life. Members will find supportivestaff and members-volunteers who will work with them tocontinually keep their YMCA experiences in line with theirlifestyle, conditions, stage of life and individual choices.

    Each member is assigned a wellness coach at no additional cost.We invite each of you to meet with your wellness coach for an

    orientation and for follow-up appointments to provideadditional training and motivation.

    QigongThe primary focus is to have the breath, body, and mind

    moving in unison. The various postures are designed toenhance circulation and create internal balance, resulting inimproved overall strength, coordination, and balance.

    Step AerobicsA rhythmic class using a smal l platform for an aerobic workout.

    Tai ChiLike Qigong, tai chi offers many health benefits includingreduced mental stress, improved concentration, and increasedinternal energy. Two styles of tai chi are available: Yang andChen.

    Strength training is the use of resistance methods to increaseones ability to exert or resist force. The training may utilizefree weights, your own body weight, or resistance machinesThe benefits of Adult Strength Training are increased musclemass; increased tendon, ligament, and connective tissue health;increased or maintained bone mass; self-confidence; functionalstrength for daily living and socialization.

    Youth Strength Training

    This training is a one-on-one orientation for youth ages 12 and13. It is a prerequisite training for all teens on the proper use ofequipment in our facility while teaching them basic anatomy.The rules of the Strength & Conditioning centers are alsoemphasized.

    Equipment Orientation/Program Development

    A free service that introduces you to all of our equipment. Youand a trainer will discuss your fitness goals and then you willbe instructed on how to use Fitlinxx as a training partner. Youwill also discover what seat positions match your bodydimensions. A review of weight amounts and number of setswill ensure that you are getting what you need to work towardsyour personal goals. Our staff encourages you to make follow-up appointments.

    Fitlinxx: Interactive Fitness Network

    You and your trainer will set up a program designed for you.

    With the help of Fitlinxx, your program will be tracked andmonitored by you and your trainer. Fitlinxx does this bysending your workout to each piece of equipment. You willreceive instant feedback while using each piece of equipment.Fitlinxx tells you where to set your seat position as well as howmany repetitions and sets to do. It monitors your range ofmotion and lift speed. Fitlinxx tracks your workouts so thatyou and your trainer can monitor your progress towards yourgoals!

    Youll get a kick out of our awesome TaeKwon Do classes ! Tae Kwon Do is a Koreanform of Karate, meaning the way of kicking andpunching.     Parent Child: ages 6 months 3Swimming is a necessary life skill and its never too early tostart your infants development. Our Paet Chprogram,for infants and their parents, is a great introduction to theaquatic environment. The program focuses on water orientation

    and introduces the basic skills needed to build strong,, lifelongswimmers.

    Preschool Classes: ages 3 5We offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels for ourpreschool aged swimmers. Our beginner level Pe is perfectfor the little ones first time in the water. The class focuses onwater adjustment, basic skills, and water safety. For the moreadvance preschoolers, our Ee and ray classes focus on thefurther development of the basic strokes.

    After School Enrichment Program

    The Stonestown Family YMCA operates seven ExCELAfter School Enrichment Programs in partnership withour neighborhood public schools.

    The After School Enrichment Programs (ASEP) arecollaboratives funded by the Stonestown Family YMCA,School Health Programs Department, and the MayorsDepartment of Children Youth and Their Families. The ASEPsare completely free of charge and provide a safe well-structuredspace for more than 1,000 children and youth in theafterschool hours each day. The ASEPs are ref lective of eachschool communitys needs but are designed around threeprimary components: academic assistance, recreation andenrichment. ASEP students participate in a wide range ofactivities including, dance, league sports, creative writing,leadership clubs, community service, fine arts, performing arts,academic tutorial, yoga, swimming and much more!

    Our After School Enrichment Programs are offeredat the following school sites:

    CommunityConvener Project

    The Stonestown Family YMCA was selected to be theCommunity Convener for the Neighborhoods West ofTwin Peaks, Merced and Miraloma by the City of SanFranciscos Department of Children, Youth and their Families(DCYF.) The Community Convener initiative is a citywideeffort to improve services to youth and families by bringing al lyouth and family related entities together on a neighborhoodlevel. The goals of the initiative are to:

    Improve the coordination of services to meet community

    needs and challengesPlan and promote community-wide events

    Promote resource sharing and referrals among agencies

    Enhance communication between CBOs and publicagencies

    Facilitate cross-organization problem solving

    Each Convener will develop, strengthen and maintain acoordinated network of children, youth and family serviceproviders.

    These neighborhood networks will include private andnonprofit service providers as well as public agencies including

    schools, libraries, recreation centers and health centers.

    Run by staff well-versed in Early Childhood Education, CPRand First Aid, our Afterschool Programs offer a variety of

    activities including indoor/outdoor play, homework help,cooking projects, community building, and arts and crafts.

    Programs provide the opportunity for your child to buildrelationships, learn new skil ls, be creative, get assistance withhomework, participate in field trips and learn the YMCACharacter Counts values of Honesty, Caring, Responsibility,and Respect.

    Were flexible so that we can meet the needs of all of ourfamilies. To that end, we offer three attendance options: 5, 3 or2 days a week.

    Programs follow the SFUSD school schedule between Augustand June. Full Day programs are offered for an additional price

    on many school holidays.The Stonestown Family YMCA also offers before school carefor students of Commodore Sloat & Sunset Elementary schools.Before school programs meet from 7:008:30 am. Run by oneof our dedicated afterschool staff members, the before schoolprograms offer students a safe inviting place to go beforeschool.
