The lamps have been honoured with more than 40 awards for design excellence, including 8 Good Design Awards, 5 Reddot awards, Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, Elle Interior Design Prize, the Swedish Design Award, Wall paper Design Award and Design of the Year. Wästberg is based in Helsingborg, in the southern most region of Sweden, Skåne.

Wästberg launched its premier collection in 2008 and although this newcomer appears to have come out of nowhere – nothing could be further from the truth. Its founder, Magnus Wästberg, was born into the lighting trade and had through experience gained an understanding for the need to fuse aesthetic sensibility with Swedish engineering mentality.

Today Wästberg has a growing catalogue developed in close collaboration with some of the World’s most renowned architects and designers. Including David Chipperfield, Claesson Koivisto Rune, Ilse Crawford, James Irvine, Jonas Lindvall, JeanMarie Massaud, Nendo, Inga Sempé, Maarten Van Severen and Dirk Winkel. Only with designers like them could Wästberg’s ideas be turned into successful products.

Chipperfield w102 table lamp

The product references an archetypal personal desk lamp for home or office use, and seeks to offer a fresh interpretation of the familiar on a domestic scale. The lamp is predominantly made from brass – a material commonly associated with lights, though not so widely used today. The intention was to create a simple form with a clear distinction between a base, a single arm and a lamp head. The lamp has no visible joints and minimal directional movement, without compromising its function.

A task lamp is a highly technical object. Rotation mechanism, arm reach, counter balance, degree of efficiency, safety… It must all be there. How to use it must be selfexplanatory to anyone. Hiding all the mechanics and electronics left a nononsense design. This lamp almost designed itself. Arm, elbow, head. And light.

Historic industrial design icons such as the Starship Enterprise or the Citroën’s steering wheel were inspirational when designing the w126 uplighter. Admittedly two quite technical examples, but this is a lamp that demanded both highly advanced engineering and a bit of iconicity. Two powerful and separate LED light sources, one up and one down, with separate dimming allows you to set the light to any desired ambience. No need for a manual. Two simple touch buttons makes operating instinctive. However, this lamp does not fly through outer space, nor does it roam the highway, but stands in an architectural context. Significant in expression, yes. but reduced in form and shape to feel at home in your room.

While Wästberg is a forwardthinking manufacturer of hightech lighting, a pendant lamp is a very old concept. Therefore, designing a new pendant lamp for Wästberg means bridging the past with the present. Firstly, the w131 is a surprisingly small lamp. However, it still lights up well and is extremely versatile when it comes to usage. Secondly, the lamp gives a soft and friendly impression, the textile cord further adding softness. Sandcast recycled aluminium is both beautiful and environmentally sound. Any imperfections of the metal are meant to be there. We will use this lamp both at home and by contract.

Our family of lights are sturdy friends, each with it’s own personality, unpretentious and always there for us.So we have chosen honest materials that carry clear messages. This is because there is an innate awkwardness in the directional light that we wanted to amplify rather as with people this is a sympathetic quality not a sin.

Irvine w082 table lamp

The theme of the task lamp is one of those design projects which always has to measure itself with great masterpieces from the past. Hundreds have been invented over the years. Some of them so brilliant that they are hard to beat. They are full of springs and knobs and complicated hinges. Sure, you can design another one of these but my feeling is that perhaps there is the space for a simplified mechanism. An object which is calm. It does move, but does not do everything. For me that‘s enough and maybe for some other people too.

Lindvall w124s pendant lamp

I love products that you think you know from somewhere but aren’t sure where from. In designing this lamp for Wästberg, my main goal was to design an archetypical lamp inspired by its original predecessors – the oil lamp or the kerosene lamp or even candle sticks – together with shades that used to sit on lamps I grew up with lamps with an incandescent light bulb and a conical lampshade.

In other words, I wanted to design a very simple light fixture, designed to direct the light downwards but that also helps to create an ambiance in a room. This is where I started.

However, I also wanted the lamp to offer something more. A specific feature making it stand out ever so slightly from the crowd.

A light fixture made by a system of parts. The height and form of the light can be easily changed by adding and rearranging the components. by attaching the wire unit to the shade it becomes a pendant lamp. Adding a longer post to the desk lamp makes it a floor standing one. The shade is also available in three different shapes: a cone, a sphere and a cylinder.

Sempé w103btable lamp

This elementary lamp is meant to be as simple and solid as a nail or a push pin. As with traditional tool machine lighting, the mechanics are sturdy and longlasting, with the aim of improving classical industrial elements. The lamp mixes solidity and lightness: a thin beam joins the two opposite pieces of the lamp: the heavy cast foot to a delicate shade. Its silhouette and its various positions bring to mind a small umbrella.

Sempé w103s1pendant lamp

A Sempé w103 pendant lamp can be a single hanging shade or a combination of shades. They can be attached on a long rail for linear combinations or on smaller rails, where they can be joined together like Meccano to create polygons. The rail structure is thin enough to avoid the feeling of a heavy, hanging structure, and the lines are also softened by the round shapes of the shades. These exist in 7 very different tones – bright, soft, clear, dark – and can be arranged in any colour combination.

Two elements of the w103 range table lamp are used in the suspended lamps: the shade is identical and the hook of the clamp is moved to the top of the shade. This then becomes the assembly piece of all the various shade combinations.

Winkel w127 table lamp

Winkel w127 is manufactured of solid fiberglas re inforced biopolyamide that is based on over 60 per cent renewable material derived from castor oil. Like any kind of thermoplastic it is recyclable. The mechanical solution is based on micro gas springs, widely used in the automotive and electronics industries. The shade is adjustable for uni versal direction of the light. The light technology is based on a highly energy efficient multichip LED solution. The diode is cooled efficiently with an advanced cooling construction. The fixture is equipped with both a reflector and a diffuser lens, to give optimal light distribution and light quality. In addition, there is a glare protection system. Winkel w127 is operated with a seamless dimmer that is operated by an IRswitch; a builtin timer automatically turns the lamp off after five hours. Winkel w127 is avaiable with one or two arms with base, bracket, clamp or pin.
