It’s Issue 4 and I’m super stoked!! Like Hannibal Smith, from the A-Team, I like when a plan comes together. Yes, it’s been half a year already since SOFB came to life we’ve been expanding and finding our way to make things right. I’m not only talking about layout wise, but the whole redaction team and Gumball 3000 Apparel Team as an integrated part of SOFB. So I hope this will help to provide you with exclusive con-tent and what’s more, to bring fixed gear and it’s riders to city near you!
Keep it going!
Ride on!

STOKED ON FIXED BIKES
SOFB- What makes you so good at rid-ing fixed?
G- I’ve been riding fixed bikes for about 3 years now but before I started riding I used to skate so I think that gave me a head start on scoping out lines and spots and shit.
SOFB- Tell us about the last two com-petitions you went to.
G- I’ve been to a couple of competitions in Europe like Death or Glory and Cest la Merckx both of then were sick we rode and drank hard.
SOFB- Do you like to ride street or park more? Are you better at one more than the other?
G- I think I’m better at park but park is easy to be good at cause it’s all there layed out for u so I prefer to ride street
SOFB- How do you get pumped to ride hard?
G- To get pumped I need to be with other people who are trying new things and learning or just blasting airs
SOFB- How do you set up your pedals before you get to an obstacle?
G- Fuck setting ur pedals it looks ugly I try to avoid it as much a possible just swerve around until u feel it’s right and booooost
SOFB- You inspire a lots of new riders what you will say to them
G- Fuck the haters just do what u want and quit when Ur not having fun
SOFB- What is the next of your projects?
G- Make money son!
SOFB- Tell as about your coming month. and where are you at the mo-ment?
G- I am currently in Rotterdam riding with the guys from Paris!
SOFB- Last question; any shout outs?
G- Umm big up Jordan big up Henry big up all the safe guys and girls
Gus thats sick rider and he did proved himself in last year competitions. Time goes by and he goes off the radar. Many people wonder what’s hap-pened, some of them think that he even quit.. But read on to find out what
actually happened

The standard from everyone exhibiting there was really high and it was a good chance to chat and see what all the build-ers have been up to lately. There was a real sense of community felt by all there; the show seemed to mark the start of exciting times for the smaller companies. If you didn’t make it to the show, make sure you get the date in your diary for next year, its already planned to be bigger and better!

Lille hang out dayI was in London and really itching for a ride, a road trip to France. But no one around me shared my enthusiasm. So I thought, what the heck, I’m not giving up on this and what more, I know that there where I’m going I’ll find people with this same syndrome.. So I just bunny hopped on the Eurostar and in less than two hours and I’m in centre of Lille. Sweet..

The sky clears up and I start to meet friends one after another. Tilly helps a lot show-ing the way through this amazing town. We stop in a place where crews from Paris and Geneva have already congregated. People build their bikes, leave their stuff and we’re ready to roll. It’s fair group of us and everyone is stoked on riding (something new… not really). We move from one spot to another, having great sessions and more importantly we’re having fun.

It’s not even a competition day, but locals show us some good places to eat and party.. Everyone ends up in Niki’s place, which ends up getting a bit trashed, one guy slams the floor with his face after hitting the funny tobacco.. And jokes have no end. I always say that if you want to get into the spirit of the competition you should get your ass there the day be-fore!!Thanks to all who hung out that day - you know who you are.. That’s building the fixed gear spirit, I’ll say!!

Ok, Ok, I know that I wrote this a couple of pages before.. And it’s kind of a continuation. Again, everyone meets up under the bridge next to train station. More people turn up including Stay Gold, the Rotterdam Crew (thanks to Tilly) and a couple more riders from Paris and Brussels. After a few minutes we head up to the Skate Park in the suburbs of Lille. Atmosphere is more like a picnic than a competition with everyone just enjoying themselves. Some people ride and some of them just chilling.

Finally, after a while with no pressure, the riding picks up. Lists start building up with lots of new faces and some already well known. The Geneva Crew is on it as well as Paris and Brussels. I don’t know how many times I write this in SOFB, but Simon is killer again! Just the energy that comes from his riding.. Amazes me! I was kind of pushed (again) to take part in this competition. I really enjoyed volcano together with Alex and we hit that full speed trying to get some air of it. Girls Saskia and Tilly are just there showing others how it’s done and that if you really want, you can do it.. Nice!

Whole competition was really cool and had a great atmosphere. Ok, this time we didn’t have a crazy fight that Oscar, Wonka or Simon normally get into, but that’s not what it’s all about.
It’s refreshing to have a chilled competition like that and to find this trick fixed gear side still attracts me and many others! Looking forward to next time! Big thanks to Nucult and other crews!!

I’ve been a big fan of this competition since day one and everything I saw from the first edition made me super cranked and impatient for the second edition. But again, I didn’t manage to make it and instead followed all the info that came out online from this competition. However, I did manage to get hooked up with Ehren and Sam to get some high res shots from the competition.

I really like feel of Ehren’s photos and she told me that comp was sick. In my opinion, it’s really worth promoting competitions like that, where everyone its super stoked on riding. Just from edits I can tell that Tom Lamarche was in the zone and other riders where at the tope of their game too. Enjoy Ehren’s photos and hopefully next year I will be able to show you this comp from first-hand experience and not only as an internet stalker!!

There are lots of events going in Warsaw for fixed gear maniacs.I’m really happy that Poland doesn’t hold back! Apart from CMWC, which is defiantly the highlight of this issue, Red Bull Minidrome takes place near the Palace of Culture and Science. I’m excited that Bartosz from SFX Crew (look at Issue 3 crew section) managed to get to the final and scored a high second place. There were loads of fast riders. Photographer Mateusz Pieczko, who’s working close with SOFB, took some great photos at this event, so please check them out.

Actually, I shoot those stills of Jordan in W hotel to promote movie about exiting new project.
W are working with Elton John Aids Foundation and building bespoke push bikes that will be created by East London Artist Benedict Radcliffe. As well next to Benedict, five other names in Music, Fashion and Film will collaborate to have their designs transformed and brought to life on the bike.
W will have the bikes over the summer for guests to use. At the end of summer a party will take place and the bikes auctions, where all proceeds will then go to the Elton John Aids Foundations.

CMWC thats one of the most crazy events from whole year bike calendar. To document this race we team up with London messengers sponsored by Tokyo Fixed Tim and Alex.
Together with Tom videographer we packed the car and head strait to Warsaw. After whole day of driving from London we mange to get just in right time for friday registration.
That was good day to hang out around city and location of main race as organ-izers make sure that you will not get bored.Sprints, bike polo tournament and many other side events.
To Warsaw get all the best messengers from around World like Austin Horse, Team Mash and many more. I dont need to say that messengers thats special bread which rides hard and party even harder.

Starting with qualification race are young racers Tim 20 and Alex almost 17did need to proved themselves. Tim goes for general idea of the race and really fights to get to the final. Alex cant stay from his every day habits and focusing on Messen-guerilla part (which actually I should not talk about). Like in his every day profession he gets in to trading and having fun.

What is more this year close track in Powisle did have form of cyclo-cross race and Im super impress how fast some of the racers can go off-road on 23c tyre. Apart of track the weather make life of messengers even complicated.

From what I did hear there is two location to chose from Mexico and Lausanne.. there is argumentation about percentage of tarmac on the track.. Still think that remote Mexico would be really attractive.

For those of you who dont know who Sean Burns is, Well He simply his one of the crazyest Guys ever riding a bike, and if thats not enought to make you wanna have this stem, he also rides for Éclat such a few other companys.
This stem is a CNC machined from 7075-T6 alu-minum Top-Load stem with a rise of 23mm if you have it upright, but if you want a litle less rise you can also use it inverted and you will have a 9mm rise, witch is really good for small guys or people with bars rised too high for them of forks too big.
As for the reach the stem as 50mm, witch make it a perfect freestyle fixed stem, easier to spin the bar arround than on a longer stem but not to short for smooth but responsive turns!
Other good thing about this stem is that it comes with 6 hollow metric bolts and an offset pinch bolt area that offers more thread insertion to reduce the chances of stripping
ah, and if you like me one of those hitting you stem a lot, Éclat and Sean Burns are you friends, they Rounded all the edges
well one word may discribes this stem, and that word is “PERFECTION”!

Fixed Gear Leeds Every year, in London, we have the chance to see some riders from Leeds. I hooked up with Sam to get some more info about his crew..
Don Sam presenting FGLeeds
Fixed Gear Leeds started about four years ago after I met Marek by chance at hyde park and we started to organise rides on Thursday nights, which grew from four peo-ple to a pretty big riding and social group over a few years. The last year has seen the exodus of some good friends and cy-clists to other cities around the world but with new riders in Leeds and the North, I’m sure the scene will continue to grow.
Leeds is a pretty hilly city which makes for some interesting routes, and with the dales on the doorstep, there are plenty of opportunities for a little escapism. I’m not sure whether the terrain has dictated Leeds riding scene or not but it certainly revolves around climbing hills, bombing hills and pubs.
To say that Fixed Gear Leeds is a tight group might be an understatement. The camaraderie not just within Leeds but also the surrounding Northern cities is defi-nitely one of the plus points of getting this started. Whatever happens from now, I am sure there will be some strong riders forged through our affinity for the bike.
It was really good to hang out for the day with those guys and share their enthusiasm I’ll have to organise some sort of hill bomb-ing competition and I’m sure that you’ll see some of them in future issues of SOFB.
