Lucky number 13! needs to be a lucky one as spring is finally here!
I started this season in the bicycle city Vienna.
Riding in the Viennese woods.- they are full of off-road tracks. tons of fun just by exploring them and getting lost.
still if you like long straight roads or having an ocassional race with road cyclists the Danube island bike lanes are perfect for that!
the city for a change offers plenty of one way streets mostly empty, you just need to turn from the main road and go along, straight to a street which welcomes you for a ride. they have it all - pure fun!
this city already organises plenty of bike events , mtb, alley cat races, gold sprints, bike polo and many more!
You will see some of that in our next Issue 14!
For now Issue 13 is ready to be ex-plored!

march was an unforgettable month. Four weekends, two continents, five different countries, many events and competitions. Berlin – Fixed Days weekend and first place in the min-idrome but even before that we had a cool trip to Poland. We visited asphalt bikes in Warsaw and had nice times with marcel. next weekend tru Fix kRU all team went to tallin – simple session. that was some real sick shit to watching BmX riders going hardcore. then I went to nY where I participated in Red Bull mini Drome. this time all didn’t go as planned and I had to concede to young and talented addison Zawada. But new York trip itself was a blast and just to have an opportunity to ride nY streets is rad and outstanding. many new friends and good times on my fixie. and then after nY I went to edinburgh Red Bull hill Chasers. Red Bull hill Chasers is a night time uphill eliminator race for all bike disciplines, BmX, mountain Bike, Road Cycling and Fixed Gear.
about going low into corners - oooooo just give me some. I can go as low as my pedals allow me to, but it’s all about the wheels man. I choose Fyxation ses-sIon700 tires. they are grippy as hell and let me be really confident about goin’ low.

the main thing is to believe in your in-ner strength. You need to set a goal and then decide what the steps are gonna be for accomplishing them. of course it means hard work and lots of sweat – it has to be your true lifestyle. driving force. Just have fun!

Red Bull tru Fix 2013 in Riga, Latvia. We are doing all possible and impos-sible to make this event even more dynamic and crazy. Red Bull said: “We need more blood” – so thts’s what we will give them. next year we plan to get this event out of Latvia to some Fixie meca – London is a possibility.the main focus is on tru Fix kru and that’s for sure you will hear about us!
lAsT qUesTion; Any shoUT oUTs?
It aint gonna ride itself!
Very impressive competition and many good riders from all over the world all different riding experiences. It was unique experience to see and compete against all these riders and represent fixed gear culture. and last short trip was to sweden with all my tru Fix kru guys just to chill with a cruise ship. Wee needed to let some fresh air into our laungs and get some ideas talked out with no rush. so 18 hours one way was pretty enough for that.
do yoU liKe To ride sTreeT or minidrome more? Are yoU BeTTer AT one more ThAn The oTher?
I like to ride minidrome but more in the streets cause there is bigger free-dom speed and many unpredictable moments. In minidrome I can verify and accomplish my dreams and goals but the real deal is street riding.

This was the first year that the FIXED DAYS took place in berlin. in total there were more then 100 riders from all over europe (even a few from the us) racing and partying hard.
the event started off on friday with a ride to the location of the sprint race, an open air course close to the Velodrome of berlin. Whilst gathering outside at the meeting point one could already feel a vibe of excitement in the group, already getting hyped for all the competitions to come.

another highlight was the riders brunch on sunday, it was really nice to have a sitdown-and-relax moment with the whole crew of riders & organizers. and the craziest thing of all: the whole event was free! From enter-ing the races 'till the brunch, everything had been taken care of. this was due to the new common philosophy of the organizers: fixed days should be an event for the sport and not for the prizes. and so it was.

This was the biggest event of the Fixed Days. There were big names on the list, such as francesco martucci (Winner the Hunt london 2012, 4th Place Red Hook Crit milan 2012) and J.t.(Winner of the monster track Race nYC xiii). the course was short and really technical. that's why the race was split in multiple qualifying rounds, two half finals and one final with ten racers.

surely every contest had it's highlights, but the biggest highlight of the weekend had to be the Women's Crit. they say women are more competi-tive by nature than guys, and it showed! the ladies gave 200% and some didn't even stop racing after a crash (or two).

more infos:www.berlinerfahrradschau.de.
The finals were really fast and it was a so called -last men standing- race where each round the last racer got kicked out. unfortunately this led to some kamikaze moves and a fatal crash. if it wasn't clear until now... this is not just fun. some rid-ers take this maybe a bit too serious.

Tell me pleAse hoW yoUr shop WAs Born, And hoW The CreW meT...
Bristol Dropouts started in 2010, my friends and I had fixed gear bikes but there was nowhere to get new parts here in Bristol. We spoke to a few suppliers in Lon-don about getting wholesale ac-counts and rode from Bristol to London one day to go and speak to the guys in person. In all hon-esty I didn’t really plan to open a shop, It was a a bit of a blag to get nice components for me and my mates at trade price.
We started getting asked to build bikes and wheels for people and with time our reputation grew. We took a small space in the Park skate shop where we kept a few bikes, saddles, sprockets, grips and pedals. more fixed gear rid-ers in Bristol heard about what we were doing and started asking us to get parts they had seen online in for them and build up their bikes. I started looking for a shop in 2011 because things were getting crazy at the skate shop, we had loads of bikes frames and parts in boxes because we has no room to display everything. We were out riding in the summer of 2011 and met up with the Bristol FGFs crew, one of the guys, Jean-Luc explained his parents had just bought a building in the centre of town and there might be a re-tail space available. We moved in a few months later and its been a crazy fun year of building and riding fixed gear bikes. We have had a lot of help from Brother Cy-cles, Brick Lane Bikes and tokyo Fixed - without these guys there is no way we could have got to where we are now.

CoUld yoU Tell me pleAse ABoUT Compe-TiTions And eVenTs AroUnd The shop
there is an amazing fixed gear scene in Bristol with lots of amaz-ing people pushing it through some well organised events and weekly rides. the thing that I have enjoyed most about run-ning the shop is meeting so many people who like me are obsessed with riding bikes. Bristol isn’t like London, it’s pretty small, and there are loads of hills here, it makes riding fixed a bit more challenging and brings the riders closer together.driving force. Just have fun!
Where do yoU ThinK Fixed geAr Will Be in A yeAr From noW?
I don’t know what the future holds for the fixed gear scene, fixed gear isn’t a new concept, some of my regular customers have been riding fixed for longer than I have been alive. there were a lot of people who were blog-ging about how cool riding fixed makes you, if you’re a dick a bike won’t help you, you’re just a dick on a bike. It seems most of those guys have found something else to write about now, which is good - for me its just about the bikes and people.

yoU liVes in oregon hoW This is inFlUenCing yoU And yoUr WorK?
l live in Portland, oregon. this influ-ences my work in many ways. First off, there is an huge cycling community here. everyone rides bikes everywhere. other than that, i think the climate itself has a huge influence. much of the year it’s very dark and rainy. It’s a very ominous and dreary scene. But in the summer, when if finally gets nice outside, it’s amazing and there is so much to do here. I can drive an hour in any direction and have a different type of landscape to photograph in.
WhATs yoUr FAVoUriTe Time oF dAy lighT To shooT in?
It sounds cliche but i’d have to say evening light.
Who is yoUr FAVoUriTe rider To shooT WiTh?
I’m not sure if i have a favourite rider to shoot with. I’ve had the opportunity to photograph so many wonderful people it’s hard to pick one out. tyler Johnson is always fun to photograph because he’s so fluid and talented. there is a new crew of FGFs here in portland called still Pour and they’re rad to hang out with and photograph.
Film or digiTAl?
I think both have there respective rolls (no pun intended). I shoot both but i prefer to shoot with film. It’s what I shoot the most and what i’m most comfortable with.

I think riding gives you a perspective that you don’t see when you’re driving.
yoUr CAmerA BAg? - hoW heAVy is iT?
I try to keep it as light as possible. Last summer i took a spill on my bike with about $10,000 worth of equipment in
my bag. after that i try to ride with a minimal set up. I rarely need a lot of
equipment with i’m just riding around and shooting anyway.

unicorn started 2 years ago and we did relaxed sunday group rides around town in the beginning, but soon began to do longer distance riding as well. our main goal is to have a good time and so there is not some-thing like a typical unicorn ride. it always depends on who shows up, which bikes (fixed, cross, road) are involved and when we went to bed the night before.

We coordinate the rides through our facebook group. bigger events/rides are also announced on our website (rideunicorn.com) and we post photos and reviews there as well.

got to my local bmx pump track, not to busy, had fun pumping around and jumping a few whoopsydoo hah. Prime-time geometry is spot on bmx angles with a slam rear chain stay perfect for manuals, with the bike weighing in 28 lbs she air whoops with ease.
after my fun freewheeling around the bmx pump track now time to flip flop her over to fixed, this S.E new 14mm sealed Hub 13t freewheel & 13t fixed cog is fine piece of work, now they need to make flip flop with 10t or even a 9t freewheel/fixed? they would have a field day in this current market of fixed freestyling.
Right now that lm riding se Primetime fixed i have to re-member not to stop pedaling haha can forget now and then but all shwreet.
Hit a few new spots, jumps some stairs, drop some banks Prime-time is solid, these wheels are taking the abuse though. on my way home i’ll take the Prime-time to skate park see how she handles and she did just that, really this bike is all you want her to be freewheel or fixed and at least now i can ride freewheel to all my long ride destinations flip flop her over to fixed BooM!! i have more energy to ride long-er at my favorite spots.
