SCHOOL OF RELIGION NEWS CONFIRMATION RETREAT - MAY 3RD - MAY 5TH
Over 114 young people from our parish will be making their Confirmation Retreat at Camp Alvernia Retreat House in Long Island on the weekend of Friday, May 3rd through Sunday, May 5th. We ask all parishioners to keep these young parishioners and their catechists/youth leaders in your prayers especially during this weekend retreat. We also pray for their parents, sponsors and families as the young people prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday, June 7th.
FIRST COMMUNION PRACTICE There will be First Communion practice on
Saturday, May 11th from 12:30pm-2:30pm in the Church.

Need encouragement and support as you nurse your baby?
Join NYU Lactation Services as they host a “Breastfeeding
Café” where mothers can nurse their baby with guidance
from an NYU Langone Health lactation consultant while
meeting other new moms!
The Breastfeeding Café will meet every Tuesday from
12pm-2pm in Room 11 of the Pope Francis Parish Center.

MOTHER’S DAY NOVENA Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12th. You
can remember your Mother, Grandmother,
or God-Mother, living or deceased, with a
beautiful Mother’s Day Novena of Masses.
Mother’s Day envelopes are available in
the back of the church and in the rectory
office.
HOLY HOUR EVERY 1st FRIDAY OF THE MONTH This Friday, May 3rd is the first Friday of month. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place after the 9am Mass and at 7pm. The Spanish Mass will be celebrated at 8:00pm.
SECOND COLLECTION
Today's Second Collection is for the Catholic Home
Missions. This appeal strengthens the Catholic Church in
the United States and its territories in 85 Latin and Eastern
Catholic dioceses. The revenue from this collection funds a
wide range of pastoral services including evangelization,
religious education, the maintenance of mission parishes,
the training of seminarians and lay ministers, and ministry
with ethnic groups.
THANK YOU for HOLY WEEK & EASTER!!! Once again, our parish was truly Blessed in the celebrations of Holy Week and Easter!! On behalf of Fr. Félix, Msgr. Healy, and all our parishioners, we thank ALL those who helped to make all of the liturgies so beautiful and prayerful! We thank all of our Leaders and Rectory Staff, Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Altar Servers and Volunteers. We thank all the volunteers who helped to clean the church on the Tuesday of Holy Week as well as Mr. Harris and all the members of our Choirs for leading us in song. We thank Mrs. Inés Cordero and all those who helped to decorate the Church, as well as Jeronima Aguilar and all those who helped in the Sacristy. We thank Rolando Salinas and all those who prepared and participated in the outdoor "Via Crucis" (Stations of the Cross) & our Youth Group Leaders and members, especially Mr. Noel Vasquez and those who were part of "Pascua Juvenil" (Youth Easter). Finally, we thank the Police Officers and Auxiliary Officers of the NYPD 72nd Precinct who were with us for the outdoor Stations of the Cross with St. Agatha's and OLPH before Holy week and with our Parish procession on Good Friday. May God continue to bless our Parish and Community and especially bless ALL those who serve the Lord and His people!

NOTICIAS DE LA ESCUELA DE RELIGION RETIRO DE CONFIRMACIÓN - 3 DE MAYO - 5 DE MAYO

La segunda colecta de hoy es para las Misiones del Hogar
Católico. Este llamado fortalece a la Iglesia Católica en los

The Captain Dennis Morales, NYPD & Sr. Peggy Ford, CSJ Memorial Scholarships
We are happy once again, to be able to offer 2 Scholarships (in the amount of $2,000 each) to any
parishioner who will be entering college in September 2019 or who is currently studying in college. These
Scholarships, in honor and memory of Sr. Peggy Ford and Capt. Dennis Morales, NYPD, are given to help young
parishioners who are striving to follow the examples of Sr. Peggy and Captain Morales, by “giving back” to the
Community in service, especially by continuing their education to be better equipped and prepared to serve in a
particular career or vocation.
To apply for the Scholarship, students should submit the following

3. A brief essay answering the following questions:
- Why is education important for my Future?

Nuevamente estamos felices de poder ofrecer 2 becas por la cantidad de $2,000 cada una, a cualquier joven feligrés
que esté listo para ingresar a la Universidad en Septiembre 2019, o que se encuentre actualmente estudiando en la
Universidad. Estas Becas, en honor y memoria de la Hermana Peggy Ford y el Capitán Dennis Morales, NYPD, se
ofrecen para ayudar a los jóvenes que se esfuerzan por seguir el ejemplo de la Hermana y del Capitán Morales, para
devolverle a la Comunidad con su servicio, especialmente al continuar su educación para estar mejor preparados
para servir en una carrera o con una vocación particular.

Due to the generosity of parishioners, business owners and other contributors, a very successful
“Lights of Inspiration” scholarship fundraiser was held this Christmas. Today, we are able to offer (4)
scholarships in the amount of $2,500.00 each, to help the youth of St. Michael’s Church reach their
dreams. The Lights of Inspiration scholarships are available to all young people of St. Michael's
Church who are currently enrolled in or will be entering college in the fall of 2019.

In a 1000 to 1500 word essay, thoroughly answer one of the questions below. It will be evaluated on content but good grammar should not be ignored.
1. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time
when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure . How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the
experience? What would you do differently if you could relive that experience?
2. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking?
What was the outcome?
3. Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a
research query, or an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale.
Explain its significance to you and what steps you have taken or could take to identify a solution.

Gracias a la generosidad de los feligreses, dueños de negocios y otros contribuyentes, se llevó
a cabo una muy exitosa recaudación de fondos de “Luces de Inspiración” esta Navidad. Hoy,
podemos ofrecer 4 becas por un monto de $ 2,500.00 cada una, para ayudar a los jóvenes de la Iglesia
de San Miguel a alcanzar sus sueños. Las becas “Luces de Inspiración” están disponibles para todos
los jóvenes de la Iglesia de San Miguel, que actualmente están inscritos o ingresarán a la universidad
en el otoño de 2019.
