Commerce education enables the youth to understand and judge the various trends of trade and

business in the modern world. “Club Di Commercio – Mind Abut Competencies”, Inter

Collegiate Commerce Fest” was organized by Department of Commerce, St. Josephs Degree &

PG College on 8th October 2018. The objective of the fest was to provide a new dimension and

platform for the students to showcase their talents to become more innovative and curious

learners and enable them to compete in the modern business and to pace with the modern world.

INAUGURAL SESSION

The Inaugural session commenced at 10.00 am in Jubilee Hall amid cheer and applause. The

Dignitaries were Prof. S.V.Satyanarayana, Chairman, Board of Studies, Faculty of Commerce,

Osmania University, Chief Guest; Mr.Vijay Kiran Agastya, Associate Vice President, Business

Planning Team, Deloitte, Guest of Honour; Rev.Fr.Dr.Vincent Arokiadas, Principal,

Prof.P.L.Vishweshwara Rao, Director and Mrs. N. Srilatha, Head, Department of Commerce.

The inaugural session began with prayer by college choir “Anna Domini”. The Dignitaries were

welcomed and invited on to the dais for lighting of the lamp by the hosts of the session Manas

Vyas and Nidhi Taunk from B.Com final year Honors.

Mrs. N. Srilatha in her welcome address underlined the objective of organizing commerce fest.

She said that the fest will enhance the innovative and managerial skills of students and make

them aware of how to apply theoretical aspects to real life situation. Prof.P.L.Visweshwara Rao

in his address said that Commerce education plays a very important role in the changing business

world. It is the most important key which leads to success in all sectors of economy. Rev. Fr. Dr.

Vincent Arokiadas, Principal in his presidential address highlighted the relevance of conducting

commerce fest. He said that it enables the students to face the market situation, to adapt

themselves to the present circumstances. Moreover, it helps them to meet the global competition.

Mr.Vijay Kiran Agastya, Guest of Honour shared his happiness to be part of the fest and thanked

Department of Commerce for inviting him. In his address he emphasized on 3 do’s which are

enriching skills, developing the habit of reading and participating in competitions and 3 don’ts

are reduce watching movies, TV, and following the interviews of people who do not any provide

value addition. Prof. S.V.Satyanarayana, Chief Guest informed the students to cultivate the habit

of reading business newspapers especially the editorials, watch TV channels like CNBC and

participate in sports activities. He also suggested to incorporate Journalism as a subject to B.Com

Students. He congratulated Department of Commerce for organizing second consecutive

commerce fest. The inaugural session came to an end with vote of thanks by Mrs.R.Sreelakshmi,

senior faculty and coordinator of the fest.

The second Competition “Case Study” started at 11.30 am in room No. G10. The objective of the

event was in depth exploration, encourage research and providing practical solution on current

details of the case and 60 minutes time was given for preparation. The teams were asked to

The fifth competition of the fest “Business Plan” started at 1.00 pm in Jubilee Hall. The objective

of the competition was to provide a platform for students to present their ideas and to foster their

entrepreneurial skills. Participants need to prepare their own Business Plan (startups) and present

through Power Point Presentation. Each participant was given 15 minutes time to present his/her

Business Plan. Audience was also given opportunity to participate in Question and Answer

Session.

The sixth Competition “Target Market” started at 2.00 pm in room No. 103. The objective of the

event was to provide students a learning experience where they are challenged to combine their

knowledge, research and creativity in developing marketing strategies. It comprised of 2 rounds

Round 1: The first round was “Elimination Round” which consisted of 30 questions on logos,

taglines and brand Ambassadors of different companies. 5 teams qualified for second round

COMMERCE EXHIBITION

The rationale of the economy is undergoing some stern changes and thus the environment is

challenging for one and all. With the advent of technology the reach to the Target Group is

becoming easier day on day. The resources and its skill set too have seen a sea of change. As part

of Commerce fest, Department of Commerce organized Commerce Exhibition on “Recent

Developments in Commerce” at 10.00 am in Josephs Hall. Students from I, II and III year from

all courses actively participated in the exhibition. 12 models/charts were prepared and displayed

on the topics E-Commerce, ways to overcome income and wealth inequality, Economic Times,

Slice Pay: Future of Credit for Students, Online and Offline Marketing, Cash Flow System,

Artificial Intelligence, IKEA, Cashless India and Banking Structure in India.

VALEDICTORY CEREMONY

The Valedictory Ceremony of “Club Di Commercio - Mind Abut Competencies”, Inter

Collegiate Commerce Fest was held at 5.00 pm in Jublilee Hall. The Dignitaries were Mrs.

Deepti Reddy, IRS, Deputy Commissioner, NACIN, Hyderabad, Chief Guest; Mr.Srinivasan

Chittaranjan, Executive Vice President, KMV Group, Guest of Honour; Mr.Shujath Bin Ali, CS,

LLM, Senior Director, Parexel International India, Guest of Honour; Rev.Fr.Dr. Vincent

Arokiadas, Principal; Mrs.N.Srilatha, Head, Department of Commerce. The hosts of the session

Simran from B.Com final year Professionals and Mohammed Wajiuddin from B.Com second

year (IFA) welcomed the guests and students for the valedictory ceremony. It began with a

prayer song by college choir “Anna Domini”. Mrs.R.Sreelakshmi, Convenor of Commerce Fest

presented the rappoteur’s report. Rev.Fr.Dr. Vincent Arokiadas, Principal congratulated

Department of Commerce for successfully organizing the fest and also all the students who

participated in the fest.

Mrs. Deepti Reddy, Chief Guest in her address informed the students to spread positiveness and

be joyful. She said that life is bunch of one’s experiences and every action of a person is

manifestation of his/her experiences and emotions. She told them to take calculated risk and be

responsible for decisions taken and also learn from the mistakes committed to bounce back in

life. She also said to take informed choices, be receptive, learn to say sorry whenever required

for saving a relationship which will give you more respect and helps to grow as a person. She

stated that having Patience and patiently believing in something and working towards it will give

success. She advised students not to attach happiness to anything or any person, love yourself

and gift yourself as you are your own best friend and also suggested to spend quality time with

family and friends. Mr. Shujath Ali, Guest of Honour shared his personal experience as a student

and said to visualize the subjects instead of thinking as a burden and things becomes easy when

one love doing things. He mentioned that having a professional qualification will help in this

modern world. He said that current generation has a challenge of distractions which needs to be

overcome. He concluded by saying that have passion and goal for life. Mr.Srinivasan, Guest of

Honour said that events like commerce fest will improve interaction, communication and

leadership qualities. He said that as technology is changing, either you disrupt or get disrupted,

be creative to stand in the market and be a lifelong learner. He concluded with a statement “If

god is a creator then you must be co-creator”.

Winners of various competitions were awarded with mementos and certificates by the

Dignitaries. The ceremony came to an end with singing of National Anthem. The fest witnessed

participation of around 300 students from 13 colleges. The Commerce fest was successful in

obtaining rave reviews from the Dignitaries and participants.

BHOJ-E-JASHN (FOOD FEST)

Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the College organized “Bhoj-e-Jashn – Food Fest” on 8th

October 2018 with a motive to explore entrepreneurial skills of students. It gives them huge

exposure, a deep insight of doing big scale events and is also a learning experience. They can

gain creative and marketing skills which can help them when they graduate and organize events

themselves. The Food Fest was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.Dr. Vincent Arokiadas, Principal at 11.00

am in the college premises. An awesome ambience was created in the campus as it was

beautifully decorated with colourful ribbons.

There was an overwhelming response from 61 students as they put up 27 stalls with 50 mouth

watering delicacies namely Nacho Bhel, Mocktails, Murku Sandwich, Masala Kachori, Cold

Coffee, Onion and Cheese Rings, Pani Puri, Grill Sandwich, Tender Coconut Lollipop, Ice

Creams, Chocolate Fountain, Veg Biryani, Creamy Fruit Salad, Veg Rolls, Dosa, Chat Items,

Kheer, Red Pasta, Oreo Truffle, Oreo Shot, Cup Cakes and Brownies, Milk Shakes, Spaghetti,

Pan Shot etc. Food outlets with a variety of mouthwatering delicious dishes tempted and

attracted each and everyone alike. Participants were judged under different categories such as

(a).Taste (b). Innovation (c). Marketing Strategy (d). Presentation. Rev.Fr. Dr.Vincent Arokia

Das, Principal, distributed prizes to the winners. He lauded the efforts of the students and was

highly appreciative of them. He congratulated the students for their active participation and

commendable presentation. Students were the stars of the event, doing it all, from

conceptualization to execution. The students did an amazing job in all aspects of preparation and

implementation. Relishing and sharing the food ensured that happiness reigned.
