Pattern Copyright Laws “Let me make you a copy of this pattern” Oops!!!! You may have violated copyright laws. It’s an easy thing to do; you bought the pattern, book or magazine. Your BFF wants to make the same lovely project you just finished. So you run over to a printer and zip off a copy. In your excitement to share some fun you have stolen income from the author of that cute pattern and violated copyright laws. Think about this: that pattern was painstakingly cre- ated by an artist, who much like you enjoys their craft. They went through the process of measuring, counting and writing out the details of how to recre- ate their work of art. Additionally they may hire a publisher willing to produce and distribute their pat- tern. In exchange for all this work they collect a small income each time someone chooses to recre- ate that project. It may seem harmless and inconsequential, but each time a pattern is copied without permission the in- come that supports the author, the local shop and it’s workers is bypassed. If something is no longer avail- able in print then copy away, but if that pattern can be purchased online or in a brick and mortar shop as a stand alone pattern, in a book or magazine then it’s never right to “just make a copy”. This may be a great time to drop off your sewing machine for a spa day in our shop. The longevity of your machine depends on routine maintenance and it will run better when it’s clean, oiled and properly timed. We employ a certified JANOME technician who has additional general training for all makes and models. We recommend any issue covered by a manufacturer warranty be resolved with a certified repair technician for that specific brand. The basic service covers cleaning and overall check up. Additional charges may apply for parts and extra bench time. All repairs have a 30 day warranty from date of original service. We make every effort to repair all machines, unless the repair costs exceed the value of the machine. Mention this article for a $10 discount of the basic service cost through Jan 1, 2018 A Clean Machine is a Happy Machine!
