MRS. HURST’S HAT WORKSHOP with Kirsti Johanson
Join local knitting designer and teacher, Kirsti Johan-
son for this hat class and get started on your holiday knit-ting a little early. Mrs. Hurst’s Hat is a fancy hat pattern knitted from the top down and gently shaped with yarn-overs and decreases. The size is adjustable as you go and the end product is delightful!
Techniques covered in the class include Emily Ocker
Cast-on, basic lace work, hat structure and design (for student’s future creative work) stretchy bind off and fiber analysis so students will know what to look for in future knitting construction.

CAROLINE BINGLEY’S COWL WORKSHOP with Kirsti Johanson
This pattern was inspired by the long and loopy
cowls frequently worn today and my own preference for scarves over cowls. Caroline Bingley of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice was my inspiration, so I created something with peaks and points and extended lace in the trim.
Techniques covered in the class include double knit-
ted cast on for Estonian lace edging, basics of Estonian scarf texture, Estonian lace stitches and structure and lace design.

fabric selection, you'll have a great opportunity for one-on-one consultations about how to freshen up your stash and utilize the fabrics that you love but aren't sure how to use. You’ll see new possibilities for working with your stash and be able to leave the workshop with beautiful palettes and plans for your next projects.

BEGINNING CROCHET Interested in crocheting? Whether you are a knitter, a prior crocheter, or have never picked up yarn before, this beginner’s class will teach you the basics! Learn basic crochet stitches (chain, single crochet, double cro-chet and slip stitch), plus how to read a pattern and change colors. Includes matching the bind off edge to the cast on edge, eliminating loose and uneven side stitches, using short rows to improve shaping and seams, tips for using and creating charts, eliminating the “jog” in the join and pattern of circular knitting, exploring techniques for but-tons, buttonholes, double and duplicate knitting, elimi-nating gaps when picking up stitches at the neckline and gusset, and much more... 2 sessions Mon. strands of varying colors of yarn, how to interlock the strands when changing colors to prevent gaps, how to interpret a colored chart and how to create your own pattern from a picture or drawing. MACHINE QUILTING Learn techniques for making machine quilting easier and more fun. In the morning we will cover machine guided, straight line quilting such as stitch in the ditch, grids and diagonals. In the afternon we will cover free motion techniques including all-over designs, back-ground quilting, stencils and patterns. You will need a machine that you can lower the feed dogs on. You will also need a walking foot and a darning or free motion foot for your machine. 1 session Sat. SKILL LEVEL KEY Beginner: Easy projects. Little or no
knowledge of quilting or knitting. You must know how to use your sewing machine if one is needed for class. Advanced Beginner: Quilters must
know basics of quilting and use of rotary cutter. We rec-ommend Basic Quiltmaking class before taking ad-vanced beginner level. Knitters must know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off.
Intermediate: Fully comfortable with rotary cutting, basic quiltmaking techniques and piecing using 1/2 and 1/4 triangles. Knitters must be comfort-able with more advanced concepts, e.g., gauge chang-ing and stitch patterns.
IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION •Pre-registration is a must! Stop in, send check or call
with Visa, MasterCard or Discover card number. •For most classes, there is a supply list and/or special
instructions. Please pick one up when registering for a class or send self-addressed stamped enve-lope when registering by mail.
•We offer a 10% discount on all your class supplies and are happy to help in the selection of fabric and supplies needed for classes.
•Stitchers Crossing respects copyright laws. If a pat-tern or book is required for your class, you must have your own copy.
•Know how to operate your sewing machine for classes that involve one and be sure it is in good working order before you come to class.
•It’s best to have your own equipment (rulers, rotary cutter, etc…) in order to accomplish what is neces-sary to feel success.
•Our quilting workshops are for piecing the top only. •Cancellations must be made at least one week prior
to class in order to receive a refund. If we have to cancel a class, you will receive a full refund or credit can be applied to another class or merchan-dise.
QUILT SITTERS CIRCLE Quilt Sitters Circle meets six times a year with
Judy Hasheider. Judy designs a new quilt for each meeting, using techniques learned in Judy’s Quilt Logic (formerly It’s OK I & II). Members receive the pattern and instruction for the quilt. Lots of camaraderie and a most inspirational show and tell every meeting.
Tuesday, September 10th 1:30PM or 7:00PM Anyone who has taken Judy’s Quilt Logic (It’s OK 1
and II) is eligible to join. January is the best time to join but new members
are always welcome. The fee for 2013 is $55.00 (will be prorated if starting in September)...if you bring a guest, the guest fee is $12.00.
FOLK ART WOOL APPLIQUE CLUB
with Judy Hasheider Folk Art Wool Applique Club 2013 will feature
four new original designs by Judy. A crazy patchwork pillow will be the first project presented in February.

BUILDING BLOCKS: BLOCK OF THE
MONTH PART I Do you know how to knit and purl but wish you
knew more? In this two part series, Terry will introduce a new
skill and technique block by block, building upon what you previously learned. Terry will teach two blocks each month so at the end of the first session, you will have enough blocks for a baby afghan.
In the beginning of 2014, she will continue with
Part II and six more blocks. At the end of Part II, you will have enough blocks to complete a sampler afghan and twelve new techniques in your knitting skills.
