FY2017 (Oct’16-Sep’17) will be remembered as the year we went bigger and further with our efforts in helping families thrive. Our mission is clear – reaching previously untouched communities while sowing deeper into the ones we are already in.
Advancing the work we have been doing in the prisons with FamilyCARE gave families a chance at reconciliation with their incarcerated husbands or fathers. It was as life-changing for us to witness these precious moments between father and child as it was for the inmates and their families!
We celebrated the creation of PARENTed – empowering parents through insightful workshops, dedicated family coaches, a solid community of support as well as readily accessible parenting resources. Another milestone was reached with our latest parenting programmes – in Mandarin!
Amidst these fresh happenings, we continued to persevere in shaping national
narratives through community events, corporate partnerships and inspiring content.
All these would not have been possible if not for your shared convictions and constant partnership.
Thank you – for our every success is also yours. Your unwavering support will build a nation that honours Family and remain good stewards of all that has been generously gifted.
We look towards 2018, ready to impact and reach more families than ever by all means, going digital and remaining personal.
Behold #SG100,

I was about to divorce my husband, years after he left our family. Through 家长教练堂 and with some one-on-one time with [the Trainer], she helped me see the importance of marriage to a healthy family. I reconnected with my husband, and he decided to return home and to our marriage. I also started a morning routine with my sons, eliminating tears and shouting, which really impressed my mother-in-law and improved all our relationships. My marriage still needs work, but I’m so thankful I came for the programme!
— MRS L I , 家长教练堂 PARTICIPANT
I’ve learnt so much at Parenting with Confidence with [the Trainers] and other parents! An immediate change we’ve made is to highlight our kids’ positive behaviour, instead of only pointing out their mistakes and dishing out ‘consequences’. While we’ve attended other talks, this course motivated us to discuss parenting issues as a couple and listen to the honest stories and great ideas. Thank you so much – the course has impacted our family positively!

The contest helped me to think about my marriage in a way which I had not done before. It was insightful to rethink what our marriage meant to me.
— DAWN ONG, CELEBRATE MARRIAGE CONTEST WINNER
Was pretty upset with my son over his behaviour earlier in the day. Then we chanced upon the Focus on the Family booth at PS where the staff gave out the ‘Love Your Mum’ handy kit. He filled the card on the train while I snoozed… and when I woke, he gave me a card and said it will surely make me laugh. Instead, I teared. Thanks Focus on the Family Singapore for the handy kit!
— ANG BEE P ING, THAT’S MY MUM PARTICIPANT
My dad is a man of few words with a stern appearance so it is easy
to label him as a fierce, strict and unfriendly man... yet he has done so
much for me quietly and as I grow older, I begin to understand that there are many different ways to
express love and my dad’s way of showing his love for me is with his
actions. Now that I am a mother, my father’s great love has inspired me to always be there for my children
to nurture and love them!”

This one-night urban camping experience gives dads an
irreplaceable opportunity to spend one-on-one time with their boys.
It is a wonderful time for the boys to discover themselves and grow
into honourable men, guided by their loving fathers.
Coming soon in 2018! After years of running hugely successful father-child events, we finally have one for all the loving mums who have been asking us to run a similar event for them! This hands-on workshop is specially for mothers and their (soon-to-be) teen to help them navigate transitions while learning to grow together.
Designed with the intention of being an unforgettable date, the
event encourages Dad to go beyond good food and bonding
activities to show his beloved daughter how she ought to be cared
for and treated. It is a unique moment for Dad to affirm her value
and identity as she blossoms into a confident young woman.

My son was not keen to attend the camp. Thankfully, the afternoon
activities helped engage him more, and he was very motivated at the night race activity. I sensed
he enjoyed the time we spent together, and I really believe that the breakthrough in our relationship took place then.

It used to be hard to communicate with my parents. Sometimes I felt they didn’t understand me and I didn’t understand them. Through FamChamps®, I learnt that it takes both to understand each other and there’s a way to get a point across without offending the other person.
I came back to help out because I’ve seen how this has changed my relationship with my parents for the better, plus I’ve learnt ways to help my friends who have difficulties. I want to impact my peers.
— RAPHAEL GUI , FAMCHAMPS ® ALUMNI
I was very wowed when I attended FamChamps® in 2015, the mentors...
genuinely desired to raise family champions from my generation.
FamChamps® helped light that little flame in us to bring families together.
Not only did we feel like family, we resonated with their vision and mission!
I’m so grateful to be a tiny part of the work [of strengthening families].
This is just the beginning and I’m excited for what is to come.

Because family is at the core of one’s identity, we
believe that unlocking an inmate’s heart comes before
unlocking their physical prison.
Through FamilyCARE, we want to help reduce recidivism
and give incarcerated fathers a chance to reconcile with their
family, and receive the social support they need to reintegrate
successfully into society.

I learned many things about my family through the programme. One of them was that I am like my father — we care a lot for others. It was most memorable when my dad shared his concerns with me. He doesn’t usually talk much, so it was very nice to hear him share.

As Mandarin-speaking immigants are quickly
forming a new demographic in Singapore, there
is a need for support and resources to help them
integrate into society effectively. We provide a
conducive environment and inclusive community
for these new families by journeying with them as
they parent in a culture different from their own.

Our 3 sons and one daughter squabbled a lot, so I was at my
wit’s end when I signed up for 家长教练堂. During the course, I
was encouraged to spend one-on-one time with them and develop
our relationships. Now, I feel more confident as a mother. 家长教
练堂 enabled me to see that it’s fundamentally about principles.
The follow-up sessions have been very helpful and we’ve signed up
for other age modules.

The Board of Directors provides leadership on strategic planning, financial management and
resource optimisation. Our directors do not receive any fees for their Board services rendered, and
there are no paid staff on the Board.
The Board is assisted by various committees comprising board members and professionals who
render their services on a voluntary basis and are not remunerated. The fundraising committee is
diligent in ensuring long-term financial sustainability and wise stewardship through fundraising
activities and strict accountability to the Board.
We engage professional internal and external auditors annually to ensure controls and good
governance within the organisation.
In keeping with good governance, all staff and Board members are required to declare any
potential conflicts of interest and abstain from decision-making when such situations arise.
Denotes Board meeting attendance. There were 4 Board meetings in the Financial Year 2017.
