Noble Chuck Vandine and the Steubenville Shrine Club presented this beautifully restored 1963 Simplex Compact Sportsman motorbike to Illustrious Potentate Ron H. Leonard on August 21.

The motorbike, representative of those ridden by the Steubenville Shriner Motor Patrol, is on display in the Oasis Room at the Aladdin Shrine Center.

Prior to arriving at Aladdin, the motorbike was featured on the History Channel’s program, American Restoration, bringing the Shriners and our history of care for children to the attention of a large audience.

Many thanks go to Chuck Vandine and his son, Nick, for making the restoration possible and for the display of this wonderful example of Shriner memorabilia.

Election Regulations

POTENTATE

§4.10 Election Regulations A candidate for an elected office in a temple may print, publish and circulate, during the year he is seeking the elected office, a resume consisting of his educational background, his vocational history, and his Masonic and Shrine record.

Except as provided in the prior sentence, the printing, publication, circulating or distribution of resolutions, letters, telegrams, tickets or other devices, by a unit, club, Noble, or group of Nobles suggesting, recommending, opposing or containing the names of proposed candidates for office in the temple, or the expenditure of money for gifts, favors, or entertainment on behalf of a candidate for elected offices is prohibited.

(A) For any violation of these prohibitions, the Imperial Potentate may suspend any offending Noble and he may declare the election of the officers void and order a new election.

(B) At least one week prior to the annual meeting or any election, the temple recorder shall mail to each member a notice thereof containing this section.

were just eliminating that particular email. But doing so removes your email address from the system which means you will not receive any further emails to include the Lamp or other emails. If that has happened to you, call Chad and ask him to put you back in the system. To eliminate a particular email, just click "delete" and that will wipe that one out but will not remove you from the list. If, on the other hand, you want to be removed permanently, then click "unsubscribe" and you will not receive any more.

Upcoming Events: As we look to November, there are two unit visitations, the Lancaster Christmas Parade, the stated meeting on November 21 (the Chief Rabban will present his 2017 budget for the first reading) and culminates with the OSU/Michigan Tailgate Party on Saturday, November 26.

New Year’s Eve Reservations: Nobles, last month I explained the process of reservations for our larger events. This is a reminder to make your reservations as soon as possible because the deadline for the New Year’s Eve Party is December 3 (day of Ceremonial) for Shriners. So, don't delay. Be sure and include your member number on your reservation form. See ad on page 12. The Street Players will be back playing your favorite tunes for your dancing pleasure.

2016 Dues: Nobles, we note that we still have over 450 members who have not yet paid their 2016 Aladdin Shrine dues. We need to retain those members we have, recruit as many as we can to be able to replace ourselves and restore those who have left the membership rolls for whatever reason.

Help Build Membership: We ask that you try to help build our membership back up. Reach out to your Masonic brethren and solicit their membership; seek out those you know who left Aladdin within the last few years for some reason and encourage him to rejoin. Our biggest challenge is losing members by death over which we have no say. We are losing those who joined after WW II or Korea. Get those petitions in for the December 3 Ceremonial and please write that check today to pay your 2017 dues. The billing has been mailed from Shrine headquarters (Tampa). If you still owe for 2016, please include that amount in your check.

I hope to see you in the next few months at some of our activities. Thanks for being a Shriner and member of Aladdin Shrine!

Cincinnati Hospital by Bob Lazenby & D. Dee Mowry, P.P.The September meeting of the Board of Governors of the SHC, Cincinnati was held on September 28 and began with each board member being shot upon arrival. The flu season is upon us and your Shrine Hospital(s) are serious about this malady. The Corporate Influenza (Flu) Mandate for 2016-2017 has the stated purpose as follows: To prevent the unnecessary spread of the flu between (among) people in our building. Flu (and its complications) is a serious problem which causes more than 200,000 hospitalizations and 55,000 American deaths each year. After being shot, board members attend their usual committee meetings.

The Research Committee heard a report from one of our researchers, Jason Gardner, Ph D, who is conducting a study on pneumonia in the burn patient. He noted that 73% of deaths in this area are due to drug resistant infections. Dr. Gardner is investigating the keratinocyte growth factor as an antimicrobial which is showing much promise as a treatment modality.

Recently your hospital hosted a respected engineered skin researcher from Australia, Dr. John Greenwood, who presented a packed house seminar on engineered skin. He is working in corroboration with our own Dr. Steve Boyce who, too, is a well known pioneer in this field.

Currently your hospital has 244 employees including the research component. There have been 20(+) applicants for two research positions: one in biomedical engineering and one in stem cell biology research. Remodeling in the research laboratories is ongoing in order to attract top-notch researchers.

The donor relations committee chair reported that $1,814,489 from 2,400 gifts has been received this year by your hospital. We are now receiving patients from Africa, Guatemala, South-East Asia as well as South America.

Chief of Staff Dr. Petra Warner presented a current patient from Guatemala who is being treated for leg injuries when she was hit by a bus and her legs were run over. This young patient could not walk or stand when she arrived at Shriners. She walked into the board meeting and addressed the board members in Spanish. Fortunately Dr. Warner is an excellent translator.

The Employee Engagement Team and Human Resources Department hosted the fall 2016 Employee Excellence Awards meeting. This event recognizes employees who have made advancements in various areas. It is interesting to note that 18 of your employees made presentations or had publications at major medically related events this past year. These represent major contributions to the field of burns and related area research. It is a pleasure and honor to be associated with an institution of this stature.

As we are all aware (VERY MUCH AWARE) we are in the election season. Every news outlet constantly bombards us with all types of political ads and hype. This activity is not new by any means. We read in 1 Kings chapter 3 regarding the great King Solomon about his activity regarding governance. Solomon laments in verse 7, “...O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king in place of David (good name) my father, although I am but a little child; I do not know how to go out or to come in.” Verse 9: “Give thy servant therefore an understanding mind to govern thy people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to govern this thy great people?” This would be a good thought or prayer for whomever is elected the next leader for this great country. In a more local context, this is excellent advice for leaders anywhere, state, county, city, village governments, churches, clubs and in our own homes.

Psalm 10: “In the Lord I take refuge.”The writer implores the Lord asking “Why dost thou stand afar off,

O Lord?” The psalm also refers to the wicked, the arrogant, greedy men, cursing, deceit, murderers. Verse 12, however, says “Arise, O Lord; O God lift up thy hand; forget not the afflicted.” Verse 16: “The Lord is king for ever and ever; the nations shall perish from his land.” This reminds us that God is in charge now and forever more regardless of how elections are decided.

This is the time of year when we celebrate Thanksgiving. Let us all give thanks for the many blessings we have received and continue to receive. Give thanks for our great country and for our friends and relatives. This prayer by M.S. Hilburn is appropriate for this time of year. “Our Dear Father, at this approaching Thanksgiving (and election) season, we bow before you in gratitude and praise. Free people, in a peaceful land, we come in humbleness to Your throne offering our harvest of love and good deeds as our gift. Our hearts are grateful, our hopes for future work greater than ever. We ask for Your guidance. Bless us and keep us. This, we ask. Amen.”

ProclamationFull Dress Ceremonial, December 3 2016Allah hath spoken from the Seventh Heaven and there comes the call to all ye faithful Nobles to make a pilgrimage to the sacred city of Mecca. The Pilgrimage is forming and none should be left behind. The road to Mecca is opened for all who would desire to join the Hegira to the Holy City and proceed to Mecca. If you would join in this journey, gird yourself well, for strange is the road for those who have never gone that way.

Arouse, awake and arise ye sons of the desert, for it has been decreed the Pilgrimage to the Sacred City will be on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Oasis of Aladdin. I beseech you, therefore, Nobles of Aladdin Shrine, to let no stone remain unturned, let no camel path remain unexplored in order that you may discover whom you believe will merit the purifying draught of the incorruptible waters. Promise them the Benevolent Brotherhood and unselfish friendship accorded all pious and trustworthy Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. If they are successful in the test by the blazing sun and sands, they will become Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. They will be able to enjoy the Feast of the Ramadan and rejoice at the end of their journey by cooling their feet in the shade of the Great Oasis in Mecca. Arouse ye Nobles, go forth, and bring novices by the score for our fateful journey. Processional 10:00 a.m. with nourishment and camel’s milk at high twelve!

Aladdin’s New Year’s Eve GalaThe year 2016 is quickly slipping away and winter will soon be upon us. Can you think of a better way of ringing in a new year than with your fellow Nobles and their ladies at Aladdin's New Year's Eve Gala? It will be a night to remember! (See ad on page 7.). Attire for this event is formal.

The doors will open for the event at 6:30 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres being served at that time. A buffet dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. with three entrees and accompanying items from which to choose. A dessert buffet will be served later in the evening.

The sounds of the night will be provided by the Street Players which is one of Aladdin’s (and their ladies) favorite bands. They play a wide array of music and will far exceed the expectations of all who attend.

Of course, drinks will be at "Shrine prices." For those who wish to stay close to Aladdin and not drive home, there is a block of rooms at the Holiday Day Inn Express near the Shrine. It is located at 3951 Jackpot Road, Grove City, Ohio 43123. Call 614-801-9000 for reservations. Room rates range from $99.00 per night to $139.00 for the Presidential Suite. Transportation will be provided from the Shrine Center to the hotel. Baby sitting services will be offered at the Aladdin Shrine Center. Information will be available on this service as soon as details are finalized.

The cost of the evening is $70.00 per person for Nobles and their ladies. Reservations must be made by December 3, 2016 to ensure your reservation for this event. Reservations will be opened to non-Shriners on December 5 at a cost of $90.00 per person. There is a limited number permitted in the ballroom, so it will fill up quickly.

Best Place to Work in PA 2016Shriners Hospital for Children®—Erie has been named a “Best Place to Work in Pennsylvania” for 2016.

The survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania which are benefiting the state’s economy and its workforce.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the “100 Best Places to Work.” The process included evaluating each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics (25%). The remaining 75% of the evaluation consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.

Shriners Hospital for Children®—Erie is very proud to be the only business from Erie to make the list and one of only two in Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Aladdin Shrine MembershipAladdin Shrine membership is one of the greatest legacies a Noble can leave to future Shriner generations. Have you asked your relatives, sons, grandsons, nephews - and other Freemason friends to join? Have you talked to others about the great fellowship we have and the tremendous good works we do raising funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children? Our Shriner heritage is very important and it is important that all Nobles work hard to keep it alive and well.

Our challenge is clear: If ten-percent of our current Nobles signed up just one candidate we would have 500 new Nobles! What an awesome achievement this would be for the future of Aladdin Shriners! Petitions for initiation and membership are readily available. Visit our website at www.aladdinshrine.org. All membership forms can be downloaded. Also, tell potential Nobles to view this website. Membership is a great gift to share with others.

I have been informed that the hot sands will be even “hotter” at the upcoming December Ceremonial. Bring yourself, but even better, bring a new candidate with you. The Ceremonial is a time for all Nobles to get together and give a warm welcome to our future generation of Nobles. The Ceremonial fee is $209.00 and includes the annual dues for 2017. An embroidered fez is $70.00 and a jeweled fez is $137.00.

Nobles can also apply for Life Membership in Aladdin Shrine and Shriners International. Contact the front office for further details. In closing always remember the three “Rs” – recruitment, retention and restoration. These three items will keep Aladdin Shriners strong and will allow our heritage to be passed on to future generations. See you and your candidate at the Fall Ceremonial on December 3, 2016. In the meantime, always remain proud to be a Shrine-Mason!

Continuing Our Legacy – December Ceremonial Saturday, December 3, 2016

The OSU vs Michigan tailgate party will be on Saturday, November 26. There will be a chili cook-off at noon. We will also be supplying hot dogs, chips, and pop. The cost is $5.00 per family. There will be three chilli cook-off prizes—three scarlet and gray Aladdin cooking aprons.

The Bob Laird, chief of staff, Mark Froehlich, and Gene Steineman are heading up this event.

Fashion Designer Gives BackFashion designer, Rolando Santana, is known for the elegant women’s clothing he creates. What people may not know about is his connection to Shriners Hospital for Children®.

As a child Santana was diagnosed with a mild form of arthrogryposis, a congenital condition causing joint contractures in two or more areas of the body, typically hands and feet. While growing up in Mexico, Santana underwent several surgeries to correct his feet and legs, but was told that he was too young to have surgery on his hands. During much of his childhood he wore special boots or casts.

Santana lived most of his life not thinking much about the condition of his hands and feet. Then, one day while Santana and his mother were riding a bus, a nurse from Shriners Hospital for Children® — Mexico City approached them and started asking questions about his hands. The woman, who would later become Santana’s nurse, suggested they visit Shriners Hospital for Children® to have his hands examined. Shortly after Santana became a patient at the Mexico City Shriners Hospital.

Later, as a teenager, Santana moved to the United States and became a patient of Shriners Hospital for Children® — Philadelphia. There, he met with a number of specialists and underwent several surgeries and procedures to correct his hands.

Paving the Road to SuccessSantana considers his experience and the care he received at Shriners Hospital for Children®

— Philadelphia a pivotal part of his success, and what allowed him to be able to follow his dream to become a fashion designer.

“The doctors gave me the ability to use my hands beyond whatever I could have imagined, but meeting other children just like me gave me the strength to overcome my physical challenges. I feel very lucky that Shriners Hospital for Children® was there for me and a part of my story,” said Santana. “For this I will always be grateful.”

Today, Santana is one of New York City’s most acclaimed fashion designers. He draws his inspiration from Mexican art, famous artists around the world, and his mother with whom he spent countless hours observing making dresses. He thrives on always making women feel beautiful when wearing his creations. “Women are my fashion muses. They are classic, chic, and feminine. I love designing for them; this is my passion.”

Santana is making sure to give back to the place that helped make his dreams come true. Despite his busy schedule, he recently visited the Philadelphia — Shriners Hospital for Children® where he spent time drawing and sketching fashion designs with the kids. He also shared his own experiences with patients who are going through similar situations, giving them hope and confidence.

by Roger FausnaughPickaway The meeting was called to order by President Rocky Arledge at 7:00 p.m. Opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance were given by Noble Mick Riley. Another fine meal was served by Noble Bob Baranick.

August’s meeting minutes were read by Noble Roger Fausnaugh. A motion was made by Noble Bill Dountz and a second was made by Noble Jeff McClanahan to accept the minutes. The financial report was given by Noble Jim Willeford and a motion was made by Noble Gregg Shires and a second was given by Noble Bill Dountz to accept the report. All Nobles voted in favor of both.

Noble Jim reported that in addition to our regular bills, we have extra bills this month. They include an insurance bill which is due and a bill for our refrigerator that broke. We also agreed to donate $50 for the girl from Circleville who will be the head of Rainbow Girls of Ohio.

Noble Carl reported on the annual Shrine KC golf outing. We had 11 teams and the winning team (pictured above) consisted of Derek Greenlee, Brandon Hemming, Rodney Hemming, and Rob Griffin.

At this meeting Noble Rocky reported that a worksheet was sent out by Noble Asa for the Pumpkin Show and Noble Carl was to take calls for it. He also reported that the menu for Pumpkin Show was bourbon chicken, hot dogs, chips, pumpkin pies and doughnuts. Noble Kevin Hulse was working on the menu. Noble John Demjen was going to check on the charging of space for our booth with the Pumpkin Show committee.

Under unfinished business we received some bids on repairing the air conditioner and we are awaiting more bids on insurance. These were tabled until the next meeting.

Noble Mick thanked us again for the donation to Heber Lodge for rental of the Shrine Building and Noble Rick Blankenship also thanked us for donating the use of the building for the benefit of the Mike Parish Scavenger Hunt. Thanks goes to Noble Rusty Green for donating the money to pay for the framing of the Shrine blanket.

There were 14 Nobles at the meeting which closed at 8:00 p.m. by President Rocky and closing prayer given by Noble Mick. Remember, our meetings are always the fourth Monday of the month. We would love to see more Nobles there. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

The September meeting of the Aladdin Shrine Medical Unit was called to order by President David E. Mowry at the China Bell Restaurant in Grove City. Approximately 30 members and guests were in attendance including member Dr. Jim and Betty Webb who have relocated to Louisiana.

After Dr. Walter Samora was made an active member of the unit and the 2016 nominating committee was appointed, Director Dr. Keith Blair conducted the educational component of the meeting, EHAC, or Early Heart Attack Care. This is the title of a brochure prepared by the Snider Cardiovascular Institute of the Fairfield Medical Center located in Lancaster and formed the basis of this lesson. These lessons are an on-going project of the Aladdin Medical Unit. A series of educational events have been prepared and are tailored specifically to the needs of our members, both unit members and Nobility as well. To date topics covered have been choking, fractures, cardio-vascular episodes, airway problems, eye emergencies and EHAC. As stated above these lessons have been directed at situations which would be most likely to be encountered by Shrine members and/or their ladies. Members Jim Billiar, Keith Blair, Tom Branscomb, Rodney Hemming, D. Dee Mowry, David E. Mowry, Ralph Rohner and Mike Tyne have perfect or near perfect attendance records at each training sessions.

The next meeting of the unit will be the annual meeting and election of officers. This meeting will be held the last full week in October, time and place to be announced. The official Potentate’s visit is scheduled for November 10 at the Columbus Club. Thanks go to Assistant Director Dr. John Kean for making the arrangements for this event. The Potentate’s visit is always one of the highlights of the year for the Aladdin Medical Unit.

The Potentate’s visit went well on September 22. About a dozen members of the Reception Unit turned out and the crowd totaled approximately 40 people with Divan members, ladies and sweethearts. It seems, however, that the drive to the new Temple is proving to be daunting for some of our members since many events involve navigating in Columbus during rush hour traffic. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable party—the caterer served a good meal and an atmosphere of conviviality prevailed as is usual with Director Jack Bonn presiding. The unit presented donations to Potentate Ron Leonard for the good of the order and to First Lady Elaine for her project supporting burns research at the Shriners Hospital for Children®—Cincinnati.

Bob Adams had to miss the Potentate’s visit because of the birth of his newest grandbaby that evening.

The trip for the personalized pavers to the new Temple is complete and they have been placed in the north walkway. The project turned out well which would have gratified Tom Keller and everyone else who worked hard on the original project. In passing, it is worthwhile to note that the unit was able to donate some $2,500 to the Temple toward landscaping expense.

As a reminder, the Fall Ceremonial is coming up on December 3. We are all aware that we need new members to keep our enterprise going, so please think about sponsoring a new member in December.

We know about the health problems that Clyde Yarnell has been dealing with over the last year or more. Clyde is holding his own, but now his wife, Birdy, has a similar problem. They are both in need of our prayers and support. Ray Crane reports that his chronic health problems make it almost impossible to get to meetings.

Another birthday has rolled around for Don Kindler and for Ray Crane. Jim Cherrington, who lives now at Forest Hills Center on Granville Road, is also notching another year. We wish them all happy birthdays.

The Marietta Shrine Club and our NEMESIS brothers from Parkersburg, WV paraded at the Lowell, Ohio Octoberfest in Washington County. We also were represented at Muskingum College for the Annual Shrine Trophy that goes to the winner of the Muskingum/Marietta College football game.

Our September meeting included a memorial service for Noble Garry Bonnette. Garry was active in our community for many years, a longtime Shriner and will be missed by our club.

We are now beginning to prepare our slate of officer and board members for 2017 and have several activities coming in November.

by Mike “P.N.C. BucketHead” ClarkJust Clowning AroundThe Aladdin Clowns participated in a few events during September. One was the Fall GLSA held in Indianapolis, Indiana. The clowns brought home some trophies for their hard work and efforts.

First, I want give a shout-out to one of our apprentices—Jeff “Choo Choo” Tackett. It was his first competition and Jeff did great job! He took third place for “whiteface.”

Since there was a small group of clowns participating this year, some clowns were moved to another category of clown makeup. Greg “Pozi” Osborne and John “Hip-Hop” Knoepfler (normally character clowns) were moved to the auguste category. Greg took second and John took third place. Also, John took first and Greg ended in a tie for third place in parade ability. Mike “BucketHead” [DAWG] took second place for character.Welcome New Member

At this time I would like you to meet our newest member to the Aladdin Clown Unit. Rick “Shifty” Marino-Gaines was welcomed in to our unit as an associate member. Rick was a Moslem Shrine member in good standing for the past six years. Rick has great clown skills, makeup and is an exceptional balloon twister. Rick, also a character clown, was moved to happy hobo/tramp and took second place. Rick and his wife Dawn reside in the Detroit area but Rick stated he will be a dedicated member and try to attend as many events as possible. “Welcome, Brother! “

The other event was the Grove City Parade. “Pozi,” “Choo Choo,” Don “Toots” Tootle, Tim “Timmers” Jones, Bobby “Tuitt” Barton, Fred “Hobo Freddy” Gischler, Tom “Brushes” Wade were the marchers and Everett “Tex” Rainer was the chauffeur.Clown In The Barrel

We haven’t had anybody deserving this recognition in a long time, but we have one deserving soul this month! Steve “Lil Mac” McKitrick (an Evil Knievel wannabe) has found out the hard way you need proper credentials and training before you ride into the sunset on your new scooter. Perhaps it would have prevented the severe case of road rash he received and a bent scooter as well! That’s all that can be said on this matter! And by the way, Steve is the only one on the list celebrating a Hatchday for month of October (14).

Honoring Those Who Have Served In MilitaryNovember is another time in the year we honor those who have served in the military.

Marines: Irv “Fuzzy” Denune, Korea; Jack “Bope” Bope; Fred “Ho-Ho” Timm, Vietnam. Navy: All Vietnam—Bill “Steins” Amspaugh, Tom “Brushes” Wade, George “Z-Clown” Mather, Eugene ”Geno” Terrell.Air Force: Fred “Hobo Freddy” Gischler, Everett “Tex” Rainer, Lloyd “Skippy” Degonia, Vietnam.Army: Jeff “Cee Jay” Carter, Grenada; Rodney “U-Hoo” Holdren.

Thank you goes to those who have or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces and to the first responders who put it on the line (24-7) for the citizens of our great country!

God bless to all! Live your life as a Mason—on the square and the compass.

We gave a big hand to our kitchen crew and Noble Rossman ended our meeting with a prayer. We then ate another good meal prepared and served by our kitchen crew of Nobles Rice,Williams, Hinebaugh and Heydinger. Good job, Nobles. It is not too soon to think about our annual Hardin County Christmas Party to be held on

December 14. That is the second Wednesday of December and it will be held at the community building. Our November meeting will be held on November 16.

Congratulations go to David Gubanc who was elevated to active member at our last meeting. He is Past Master of Triangle Lodge #748 and very active as a dual member of Reynoldsburg Lodge #340.

Jeffrey (Jeff) Reams who was voted in as a new member in September.Bob Laird presented the transportation committee’s report. Steve Hathaway

reported the strobes on the paddy wagon need to be checked as they are not working consistently. Despite some murmurs from those gathered about the strobes flashing off and on being normal, they will be checked.

He also spoke on the importance of recruiting into the Masonic family and the need for all Shriners to start telling their friends and family the story of what we do as Shriners so that we can continue helping the children’s hospitals. For Shrinedom to continue we must communicate openly with the rest of the Masonic Family and include them in our activities. Then, and only then, will they understand what it is about to be a Shriner.

Steel Drum Band by Stan Runyan

Join this fun unit! We teach you how to play.Nobles, during September our unit had to cancel our participation in three parades. In the winter, we choose the parades where we would play. When our lead pans could not attend, the decision was made to skip these parades as the lead pans are the basis for our music.

Nobles, we are in need of you to join in and see how this musical group can help you make the most of your Aladdin Shrine days. It has been pointed out that learning to play a musical instrument may help keep one from getting Alzheimer’s .

Before joining the Steel Drum Band, I had never played a musical instrument and it had been years since my days in elementary music classes. What a good time I have enjoyed with our unit, so why not come out and join us!

Practice is suspended during November until February when we start preparing for the new parade schedule.

Please call Dick Westinghouse (614-855-8009) or Stan Runyan (614-432-2814) to get started with this fun unit.

Help us in our venture of supporting Aladdin Shrine at the parades. This is one way Shriners show who we are. Shrine needs you to be active thereby giving the fraternity a way of displaying and promoting this charitable group.

Welcome to fabulous fall and the wonderful colors and of the season. These special times we share in our lives bring us closer together.

The Supreme Queen of Daughters of the Nile, Cathy Carol Rose, presented a check to the Lexington Shrine Hospital on her visit on October 15. The amount was $1,700,000.00. The hospital administration officials, some doctors who provide such excellent care, Shriners and Nobles all have worked to make this facility one of the best in this area of the country. It is with great pleasure that we work toward the goal of the best possible care for these children. We truly appreciate the work of the ladies supporting this effort and our Shriners who work in conjunction with us as we continue to give them our respect and caring belief that when we all work together well we give our best for these young children.

Supreme Queen Cathy Carol’s theme/motto this year is “We have fun, so the kids can run.” She is truly dedicated toward this goal and our work together.

The Mystery Dinner was held on Sunday for Supreme Princess Tirzah at Aladdin Shrine Center. It was planned and prepared by our ladies at Thebes Temple for Shirley Henley of Cincinnati and assisted by some of the ladies of Ishtar Temple. Reports state those who attended had a good time. Future events are planned, so tune in for a fun time to assist our supreme officer as she moves along to the supreme queen throne. Thank you goes to everyone who worked to help achieve the beginning "golden nest egg" needed to travel this great country and represent all of us as our supreme queen. Supreme Princess Tirzah assisted in serving some of the dinners.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we wish all of you a wonderful day with your families and friends.

Nile love to all!

by Mike HammondLicking CountyAlmost all of the autumn leaves have fallen; they were very beautiful this year. I guess the adage that October rains improve the intensity of the colors of the leaves has proven to be true. How blessed we are that we can appreciate God’s handiwork with the change of seasons.

Thea Court is preparing for our first Ceremonial to be held in the new Shrine Center. We are looking forward to the challenges of reconfiguring our pageantry at the new facility and I believe you will enjoy a great Ceremonial. It will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. We will have lunch at 12:00 noon; the cost is $10.00 for members and $12.50 for Nobles and guests. Reservations and payments need to be made by Tuesday, November 15, 2016 with Lady Carol Bell, 614-890-5811. Her address is 6043 Congressional Dr., Westerville, OH 43082. After lunch all of the units will be able to perform this year since the Shrine Center has a dance floor. We hope our new members will be inspired by these performances and want to join one of the units. We will finish our Ceremonial and close Thea Court after the unit performances.

Practice for Ceremonial will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. All participants are to be at Ceremonial on Saturday, November 19 at 9:00 a.m.

As you gather together with family and friends this Thanksgiving Day, enjoy the turkey with all the trimmings and remember to give thanks for all of your blessings!

Nobles, first of all it was great to see 26 members at the stated meeting. It has been a long time since we have had that many attend a meeting. It was decided to have Rich Denny contact Heath and Newark to get permission to erect Shrine signs at their entrances and to see if the cities would erect the signs for us. More information will come on that.

The nominating committee has prepared a slate of officers for next year: Jim Rosser for president, John Ricket for first vice president, Roger Hobson for second vice president, Ed Roberts for secretary, Mike Hammond for treasurer, Dave Engle for sergeant-at-arms, and Jim Conrad for trustee.

PLEASE NOTE: On December 9, the Potentate will be here for our visitation and installation of officers for 2017. This meeting will be held at The Virtues Golf Club (formally Longaberger Golf Club) off 16 east of Newark. Happy hour will be from 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. with a cheese/cracker display. Dinner will start 6:30 p.m. with the following: house salad, rolls/butter, your choice of herb crusted pork loin or apple brandy chicken, assorted pies and beverage of water, coffee, iced tea. A cash bar will be available until dinner begins. Reservations and choice of menu are required by December 1. Jim Conrad will take reservations and choice of main course. (Call 740-763-3875). The sooner you get reservations in the better. Price will be $15.00 per plate.

As mentioned at the meeting, our money making projects for the year are over. An audit committee met at Danny Bounds’ residence to audit the books through nine months. The treasurer’s books were to be in order and the committee signed off on them. That's all for now.

Your Kambri Shrine Club held its annual steak fry at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Hall on Thursday, 0ctober 13 with approximately 50 Nobles and their guests in attendance. Noble President Joel Weekley extended a welcome to all and offered a prayer for the evening. Our menu consisted of steak, baked potatoes, salads and, of course, liquid refreshments. A special “thank you” goes to Elaine LePage, Susie Bates, Cindy Hickman, and Denise Burris for their decorations and help in the kitchen.

Our program for this event was Guernsey County Sheriff Jeff Paden and Lt. Jason Mackey. They presented a program on illegal drugs that are common to our area. It was a "show and tell" type of program. Sheriff Jeff stated that the drug of choice is marijuana, and that it leads to more dangerous drugs. He showed all what is common to the area and how they appear in the area.

The steaks and baked potatoes were prepared by Ron LePage, Lew Smith, Dick Bates, Tim Oliver and Buzzy Ferguson. I do not have a count of the steaks that were dropped on the surface, nor the number sampled by the cooks. If you see any of the above, you might inquire for the count.

President Noble Joel thanked Sheriff Jeff and Lt. Mackey for the very informative and interesting program. Joel announced that our next meeting is on November 10 and will be our annual election of officers. This meeting will be at the Deep Cut Tavern. You might plan to show up and avoid being nominated to serve as an officer or committee chair. Our annual Christmas party will be December 8 at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Hall. We have great entertainment scheduled and we will install our officers for 2017. Watch your mailbox for more details. Noble President Joel closed the evening with prayer and wished all safe travels.

Special “thanks” goes to Noble Ron LePage for the above information.Nobles, do you have an interest in owning your very own "Tin Lizzie” car? If you have the desire,

please feel free to contact Noble Frank Potts at one of the following numbers for more details: 740-685-3277 or 740-630-7037.

Nobles, mark your calendars for the next two events. Join your fellow Nobles to get involved.

Prior to the Jackson Apple Festival Parade, the Aladdin Shrine Pipes & Drums Unit recently graduated three new bagpipers: Rock Arledge, Keven Clouse and Marshall Thompson. Recently, the unit practiced marching with 11 bagpipers, including novices. According to Pipe Major Mark Melroy, this would make the unit one of the largest in the area.

With the increase in bagpipers, we are in need of adding a few more percussionists to our drum line. If you are interested, and in particular, have played drums, let us know. We would love to have you check out our unit. Practices are typically on Tuesday evenings.

I was particularly excited this year before the Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade on Friday evening as it has been a three year journey from becoming a novice bagpiper following my first parade. Becoming a full-fledged bagpiper has been a lifelong dream, and thanks to the patience and guidance of our seasoned bagpipers, I am able to fulfill this bucket list item this year. THANK YOU!

The autumn means that it is time for the Kirkin O’ the Tartans season for the Pipes & Drums unit. This special service includes the blessing the tartans of the ancient Scottish clans and the Pipes & Drums add to the enrichment of the service with a special mix of traditional and religious tunes. Services are planned this year in Marion and Newark.

You can keep up with the latest on our unit on Facebook at www.facebook.com/aladdinshrinepipes and Twitter @AladdinShrinePD.

Steubenville by O. Wayne FulmerPrior to our meeting we were treated to pizza from Bruno's Pizza, assorted beverages and chocolate chip cookies. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by our First Vice President Noble Dan Truax in the absence of our President Noble Chuck Vandine. The Pledge of Allegiance was given and the prayer was given by Chaplain O. Wayne Fulmer.

It was reported that Past President Noble Dick Hazelip is in the hospital after back surgery. It is great to see Noble Tony Viola with us after his accident and broken ankle. Tony will be 100 in one and a half months. Prayers go out to Brother Art Knicely, Past Master of Steubenville Lodge 45, on the loss of his wife Ruth. Please keep President Noble Chuck Vandine in your prayers. He has been under the weather for over a week.

The Motor Patrol has a Winter Parade coming up on November 26. Line up is at 5:00 p.m. and the parade is at 6:00 p.m. The Steubenville Christmas Parade is December 10 starting at 10:00 a.m.

So far the Shrine Roadrunner from Steubenville have made 20 trips to Erie Hospital this year. We have seven trips lined up for the month of November. Nobles, we are in need of drivers.

The home and grounds committee report states that the field has been mowed. Big”thanks” go to Mr. Lucas for getting the tractor running. Another bid came in for the shelter house roof at around $19,000.00. We received an anonymous gift of $5,000.00 dollars for the roof but we still have a long way to go. Thursday, November 19 is clean up day and starts around 10:00 a.m. After the Christmas the party, the building will be winterized.

The Children's Christmas Party will be held on December 4 for Shriner's children and grandchildren and friends of the Shrine from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Our Fall Ceremonial will be on December 3 in Grove City. Please get the petitions submitted. Well, that's all for now. Be safe! God Bless! “To get what we’ve never had, we must do what we’ve never done.”
