Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus and the Stettler Outreach School recently finished our tenth year of our grade twelve students presenting their Graduate Skills Portfolios. Approximately one hundred students from both schools proudly presented their portfo- lios over a period of four days to panel members from our community in the Health Care, Education, Trades, Fine Arts and Retail sectors. Students had fifteen minutes each to present their portfolios to the panels. I would like to thank Ms. McMillan and our Student Services department for all of their time, effort and hard work spent in organizing our Gradu- ate Skills Portfolio presentation program. On behalf of our school, I would also like to thank all of our community panel members for their support in this very worthwhile learning journey. Also, in lieu of gifts for our panelists this year, Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus and the Stettler Outreach School will be making a financial contribution to the Stet- tler Food Bank and Kid Sport. Congratulations to all of our students that have been involved in our extra-curricular programs since the start of the school year. Our athletic teams once again have been representing our school in great form and spirit. The volleyball season is now over and we are starting to prepare for our basketball season. Best of luck to our basketball teams this year. Our Wildcat Football team had a very successful year qualifying to play for the Northern Alberta Tier IV Champi- onships in Lacombe on November 17th, unfortunately, losing 28-22 to the Cold Lake Royals. Exam time is fast approaching and a copy of the exam schedule will be available on line very soon, please check our school website regularly for the exam schedule. The days that exams will be scheduled for high school Non-Diploma courses will be January 24th – 29th, 2018. If, there are any conflicts for students, a makeup day for writing missed ex- ams will be on Tuesday January 30th, 2018. The last day of regular classes for all high school students (grade 10-12) will be on Tuesday January 23rd, 2018. All Jr. High students will have regularly scheduled classes during the Sr. High exam period. Parents of grade 9 students, please pay particular attention to the Grade Nine PAT Exam times on the ex- am schedule. Language Arts 9 Part A will be on Tuesday January 16th from 12:15 P.M. – 3:15 P.M., Language Arts 9 Part B will be on Thursday January 25th from 12:15 P.M. – 3:15 P.M. and the Science 9 PAT will be on Friday January 26th from 12:15 P.M. – 3:15 P.M. Our school and Clearview Public School’s messaging system, SchoolMessenger, is being used for broadcasting purpos- es as well as daily attendance calls. These broadcasts, or messages will be sent out at various times throughout the year when we feel there is important information or reminders that need to get to the home from our school or school divi- sion. Messages coming from the school are not always about absences and therefore we would ask you to please make sure that you are listening to them. We have received lots of positive feedback thus far and we encourage you to contin- ue to let us know how our messaging is working. School messages are also sent out via our schools’ website, Facebook and Twitter accounts. We also use the Remind app that you may sign up for to receive school notifications by contact- ing our main office. A Grad Parent Organizational meeting was held November 7, 2017.

Chairpersons have been appointed for the following Grad Committees:

Executive Co-Chairs Liezil Vogel and Louise Peterson Decorating Co-Chairs Traci Marko, Sheri Morbeck, Laurie Myshaniuk. Transportation Co-Chairs:Traci Smith and Angela Smith.

This November was busy with various events. We started out the month volunteering for the Red

Rose Campaign, as November is prevention of domestic violence month. Four students and one staff member went and delivered roses to most businesses on Main street. Perhaps you have

seen the roses around town? These roses are in memory of those who have lost their lives due to domestic violence.

We had some wonderful presenters come talk with our students. Mrs. Stephanie Hadley, from Communities Against Abuse was in to talk about healthy relationship with our students. Students learn the signs to an unhealthy relationship and what they should do if they see these signs, as well as other useful information for relationships.

Mrs. Kim Chapman, Public Health Nurse and Sexual Health Educator came to give a presentation about various con-traceptives available and answer any questions the students may have.

Ms. Kim Allenby, AHS, Addictions Counsellor came in to speak to students about learning resiliency, and how we can cope when we go through difficult situations in our lives.

Dennies Vierboom was also in to present to our students. He talked about growing plants inside, and possibly bringing in a garden tower to help set up and for us to use. This ties in with our wellness team initiative. Let’s get growing!

Thank you for coming in to our school to do your presentations and help our students learn and grow. Much appreciat-ed.

November is a month we all take a moment to remember our soldiers and how they have fought for our many free-doms. Staff and students from Outreach went over to the Wm E Hay Secondary Campus to enjoy the moving Remem-brance Day Ceremony. Thank you Simone for laying a wreath for Outreach.

Mrs. Ough has been helping out various students taking turns in our kitchen. These students have made many meals, soups, snacks, appetizers, and baking. All students are learning as well as enjoying this activity.

We would like to welcome a new staff member here at Outreach. Mrs. Krissy Jack has joined our team here as an EA and will be here every afternoon to help our students. Welcome. We hope you enjoy your time here getting to know the staff and students.

Parent Volunteers will be needed to help with the committees. ~More Information to Follow ~

JV GIRLS Volleyball: It was a great season of JV Girls volleyball! The ladies improved so much throughout the season and ended on a high note by making the playoffs. We had a tough game against Sylvan

Lake on October 31, the team that went on to win the league cham-pionship. Then we played Ponoka on November 2 and beat them in 3 sets which resulted in getting a spot in the playoffs. We played in Daysland on November 3 and 4 and had a great showing. The season came to an end on November 7 in Sylvan Lake with playoffs where the girls played their hearts out against some tough competition. The ladies can hold their heads high with a 4th place finish in the league. Well done ladies! Our windup was held on November 17 with dinner at Boston Pizza followed by a hilarious game of glow in the dark volleyball. Great fun and a fantastic season!

A pleasure coaching this team! Coaches: Ms. Burkard, Ms. McDonald, Shauna Elines, and Megan Norton

Happy December everyone! Maddie Kuefler here again, with the Students’ Union update

Some important dates for December include Ugly Christmas Sweater Day on December 15th. We will also be having an activity day on December 22nd to celebrate Christmas! The details for that can be found in the memo and our Instagram at the begin-ning of the month. We now have an Instagram page, we will provide photos from the events we put on, have reminders available and keep everyone in the loop. Follow us @wm.e.haystudentcouncil today! Also a reminder for any future questions or concerns you can email us at [email protected]. On behalf of the Students’ Union we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best in 2018! We cannot wait to show you every-thing we have in store for you in the New Year! Cheers!

Ugly Sweater Day—Friday December 15th

Everyone would love a GOAT for Christmas! Be The Change is raising money to buy goats for needy families in Africa to help them become self sufficient. If you have any loose change and would like to help out, please donate it at the table by the learning commons at lunch time. We can change the world!

Stettler S.A.D.D. students are attended a

ONE day conference in OLDS on Thursday Nov. 23rd.

We are also helping Heartland Victim Ser-vices and local Emergency personnel with the Charity Checkstop on Dec. 2nd by Walmart. Finally, we are organizing the SADD Alberta "Design an Awareness Message" on a Liquor Bag contest, and these will be distributed to local liquor stores to encourage people to avoid drinking and driving impaired.

WEH S.A.D.D. members are pictured here with Parker Thompson, a 19 yr old race car driver originally from

Red Deer. Parker presents the importance of driving awareness and the impact distracted driving can cause.
