India's first 'Formula 1' race trackFormula One, also known as Formula 1 or F1 isthe highest class of single-seater auto racing, sanctioned by the Fdration Internationalede l'Automobile (FIA). The F1 season consistsof a series of races, known as Grands Prix, heldon purpose-built circuits. The results of eachrace are combined to determine two annualWorld Championships, one for the drivers and

one for the constructors. Till 2010, races haveheld have been held at 68 circuits in 29countries.

The 69th F1 circuit in the 30th country isbeing built in India. The races would be held atthe Buddh International Circuit in GreaterNoida, 50 km from Delhi.

These cables would be installed within thestadium control center, spectator stands, onthe racetrack and in the pit stops, in a variety ofdeployments such as direct burial in trenches,in ducts, on cable trays.

    Sterlite's solution

LSZH is a material that is composed ofthermoplastic or thermoset compoundsthat emit limited smoke and does notproduce a dangerous gas/acid combinationor toxic smoke when exposed to flame.

    Formula 1 and India

The track in all has 16 largely medium speedcorners where F1 cars will lap at an average

speed of 210 kph. The back straight will let F1cars reach 320 kmph making it one of thefastest tracks in the world. The expected F1car lap time is 1 minute 17 seconds. With 60laps in each race, the total race length is 308.4km

The circuit length is approximately 5.14kilometres (3.19 miles) and the track is spreadin an area of 875 acres.

The initial seating capacity is speculated to bearound 150,000. However there are plans toincrease the seating capacity to 200,000 lateron. A grand stand with a capacity of 13,000will overlook the turn 10 and turn 11 givingthe F1 fans an opportunity to be a part of theaction.

While designing the track and its associatedinfrastructure, it was a pre-requisite that thecommunication system provided for signalintegrity as the system would be used forcritical functions such as signaling, barrieractuation, close-circuit television, etc. Whiledesigning the track and its associatedinfrastructure, it was a pre- requisite

Further, the cables had to sustain the annualclimatic conditions in Noida.

Additionally, the cables had to be designed tominimize the hazards on human healthandsafety in the event of a fire.

Sterlite manufactured and supplied a diverserange of fiber optic cables that enabledinstallation flexibility, whilst maintaininghigh health & environment standards andcommunication signal integrity.

The Sterlite fiber optic cables used for indoordeployment were designed with LSZH (Lowsmoke zero halogen) as outer jacketing.
