Greetings Sterling Montessori Community,
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year at Sterling Montessori Academy and Charter School (SMACS)! Many of you will be returning to us and we can’t wait to see you again! To those of you who are new to Sterling, let us extend an extra warm welcome; we are thrilled to be welcoming your child and you to our community.
We can assure you that you are entering an amazing Montessori environment. All of our teachers and assistants are experienced and dedicated “Montessorians”. This means that we prepare specialized environments, instruction, and materials which are designed to help your child reach her/his maximum learning potential.
Always seek out your child’s teachers first with any questions concerning the classroom but know that the Administration Team is always here to support students, parents, and faculty. You can email us at any time but please give us at least 48 hours to respond. If there is an emergency, you can always call the main office at 919-462-8889 and press “0”.
We are excited to introduce our Administration Team and their roles:
My name is Josie Spreher and I am the Executive Director for Sterling Montessori. I am excited to begin this new journey actively guiding our school's ongoing growth and development and working with the entire community. My husband Chris and I were high school sweethearts and have been married for 19 years. We have two boys ages 15 and 14 and two girls ages 6 and 4. I began my career as a Children’s House teacher in 1997 and for the past two years have Directed the Children’s House, Admissions and Licensing at Sterling Montessori. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, AMI Montessori Certification, and currently completing my Masters in Education. I can be reached at [email protected], or ext. 420.
I am Ms. Carrie, Assistant Executive Director for Sterling Montessori. My responsibilities include Director of Student Affairs, 504 Coordinator, Test Coordinator, Director of Specials, and Director of Middle School (for the time being). I have been at Sterling for 26 years and I look forward to another great year. I am excited about working with our new Executive Director, Ms. Josie, and our wonderful Administration Team. My name is Rownak Ifat and I am the Director of the Exceptional Children’s Department at Sterling Montessori. I would like to extend my warm welcome to you from the EC Team. The EC Department serves the students with passion and conviction and follows the Montessori philosophy to make learning hands on, interactive and individualized. We believe in student focused learning as it is the heart of special education and a feature of the teaching style of Sterling Montessori. My name is Liz Macaulay and I am the Director of Lower and Upper Elementary at Sterling Montessori. I am a native Canadian but have been living in Raleigh for almost 15 years with my husband, 2 children and 2 dogs. In my free time, I love playing tennis, doing barre classes, reading and traveling with my family. I have extensive Elementary teaching and administrative experience. I was an Upper Elementary guide for 14 years and served on a variety of committees during this time. I have AMI Elementary training and a Master’s Degree in Education from Loyola in Maryland. I am looking forward to beginning a new chapter at Sterling and excited to continue to work and support Montessori educators in their meaningful and important

My name is Fay Masterson and I am the Director of Children’s House at Sterling Montessori. I have worked with 3-6 year-olds for 19 years,15 of which I taught in a classroom nurturing and supporting the children and families. Four years ago, I moved out of the classroom and into an Administrator’s role where I was able to support all of the teachers, students and families in the Toddler/Children’s House division. It brings me great joy and pleasure to share my passion for Montessori and educating young children. On a personal note, I am a native North Carolinian. I grew up here in Raleigh, graduated from Broughton High and North Carolina State University. I married my high school sweet heart and we have two

Hello, I'm Wyleen Davis and I am the Admissions Manager at Sterling Montessori. This will be my twelfth year at Sterling! As part of your Administration Team, my job responsibilities include managing Admissions for both our Academy and Charter Schools. I can assist with all admission questions, applications for our yearly lottery, and campus tours for prospective families. I also will handle registration for our Before and Aftercare programs, after school clubs, and our weekly camps! I will keep all of our families updated about different activities and programs that your children can sign up for after school, answer questions, and assist in the registration process. Hi, my name is Denise Kimball and I am the Data Manager and Human Resources Manager at Sterling Montessori. I was born in North Carolina and graduated from the University of Phoenix with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
I joined Sterling Montessori in 2018 as the Data Manager/HR Administrator. I have worked in education for over 20 years, working with both public and charter schools. I have knowledge and experience in admissions, continuing education and human resource. I am a proud mom of one son and enjoy watching him play baseball and football. My name is Elaine Mongno and I am the Office Manager at Sterling Montessori. I have been with Sterling Montessori since 2007. I tell everyone that I have the best job at Sterling, working in the Main Office I get a chance to know each and every family and student and form beautiful bonds. Please always feel comfortable coming to me with any questions or concerns and if I don't know the answer I will find it for you. On a personal note, I moved here in 2006 from NY and love being equidistant to the mountains and shore. I have a 25year old daughter who lives in Charlotte and a 23year old son who lives in Cary. Some things I enjoy outside of work would be time with my kiddos, football (J-E-T-S! Jets! Jets! Jets!), running the beautiful NC

My name is Todd Fisher and I am the Maintenance and Facilities Manager at Sterling Montessori. My wife and I have a three-year-old daughter and a son on the way. I joined Sterling in March 2018.
