Steppler Charolais 2013 Bull Sale

Welcome to Steppler Farms and our second annual bull sale on March 26, 2013. This year we are excited to offer 70 head of purebred Charolais bulls- 60 yearling bulls and 10 two year olds all born and raised at Steppler Farms. We run 400 pure-bred cows, so we cull hard before selecting animals that will work for our customers. Most bulls are ½ or even ¾ brothers so once again consistency and predictability are evident throughout the pen. You will notice some changes from our 2012 sale. For 2013, we are excited to offer 10 two year old bulls. Last spring, I set aside a cross section of yearlings from the bull pen to use as walking bulls in our pastures and now these animals have matured into a strong, sound group of proven, ready-to-go bulls. The majority will have offspring available for viewing before the sale.A major change has been to our feeding regime. Last year, we fed silage as a trial to some of our cattle and were impressed with the results. This year all of our cattle received a TMR. Our cows are in the best condition they have ever been and the herd looks awesome, but we are most impressed with the look and performance of the bull pen. This is arguably the most active, free moving, athletic group of bulls that we have produced. With a TMR, we can control every mouth full so we know exactly what and how much our bulls are consuming; thus, the TMR has enabled us to develop bulls with longevity and productivity making your investment here a smart one.This year we also decided to video the bulls to present them online for your viewing. Brynn Audrey was born on April 21, 2012. For everyone who attended last year’s bull sale, Kate and I were quite surprised when Brynn waited another month before being born. Brother Geoff proposed to Sarah who said, “Yes!” so they will be married in July. Adam is establishing another farm yard and Ian and Sandy are tired but happy running after their fi ve kids. Dan and Pat are busier than ever, enjoying the excitement and energy that surrounds the farm. We purchased Seminole 927W as a yearling out of Sparrow Farms 2009 bull sale because we were impressed by the bull’s tremendous thickness, length of spine, and depth of rib. In addition, Seminole is correct in every way and is perfectly footed with lots of hair and excellent testicle development. With Seminole, we won 2010 Supreme Champion Bull at MLE in 2010 as well as winning Grand Champion Charolais bull the same year. We used Seminole heavily in our breeding program, as well as using him to head up our AI program. The Seminole sons were highly sought after in last year’s sale. This year 35 sons are on off er in the sale. Seminole’s sons follow their father’s footsteps with these curve bending stats behind them: TOP 30% for birth weight. TOP 2% for weaning weight. TOP 1% for yearling weight. TOP 35% for Milk. TOP 2% for Total Maternal. We have calved out the fi rst Seminole heifers this year and we are impressed- picture perfect udders and tons of milk.

We raised this son of Sparrow’s Oakridge and he was the Agribition Reserve Grand Champion Charolais bull. Distinction’s bull calves have inherited their sire’s square top and moderate deep side; they are soggy type bulls, exhibiting balanced EPD’s for weaning weights (top 10%) and yearling weights (top 5 %) along with excellent feet and testicle development. The Distinction daughters that are working in our herd are deep, sound footed females.

Oakridge, purchased from Sparrow’s 2007 sale, is a sound footed, deep-sided bull that consistently adds both top and hip to his off spring. Oakridge females have now taken over as foundation females in our cow herd; again consistency is evidenced in their overall volume, and excellent milk production.

Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until fi nal payment is made.

Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in suffi cient time prior to the sale.

Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is fi nal.

Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. All two year old bulls must be delivered as soon as possible.

Certifi cate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certifi cate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. A $50 discount will be given if purchases are picked up sale day. Delivery will be free up to 150 kms; a delivery charge of $50 per animal will be charged for distances over 150 km; we will share in delivery costs for out-of- province animals. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

STEPPLER Guarantee: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase

or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. The purchaser must have the animal vet checked and if a problem is detected, the animal must be returned to Steppler Farms at the purchaser’s expense. No incidental expenses such as feed, care, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to so prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual price. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfi llment of all guarantees and representations.

Insurance: Insurance will be available sale day.

Pictures: By attending the sale you are granting permission for your picture to be used for promotional and advertising purposes relating to the sale.
