Welcome to the latest Step Out guide, packed full of good ideas to get out and explore the city’s parks and open spaces. This issue carries details of lots of events and activities including some projects linked to Coventry being a London 2012 host city. There is something for everyone, access is good and many of our facilities and activities are free for you to enjoy.

In the Parks Service, we have a dedicated team of staff who work extremely hard to ensure your visit is an enjoyable one, whether you choose Coombe Country Park – the only country park in the city, War Memorial Park – the Premier Park for the city, one of the Area Parks – Allesley, Longford, Holbrooks and Caludon Castle, or the many others which are smaller in size but local to where you live.

Regular visitors and users of our facilities will be aware that Coventry is very proud to be able to boast three national Green Flag Awards, which are for Coombe, Allesley and Longford Park. These awards illustrate the excellent partnership working between the City Council, ward councillors and residents, and recognises the high standards and presentation of the park. Their help and support is much appreciated.

I hope you find this guide useful and you and your families are able to enjoy our many facilities and events during the coming months and in the lead up to what will be an exciting 2012 in Coventry.

A huge 25 metre screen will be bringing Millennium Place to life from the end of April 2011.

Placed on the outside of Coventry Transport Museum, the main function of the screen is to keep people up to date with Olympic and Paralympic events. The screen will also broadcast events, news, sport, music and film. The screen is provided via a partnership between the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), BBC and Coventry City Council.

There are 20 screens across the country. The first potential showcase in Coventry will be the Royal Wedding on April 29.

The screen will also offer local communities a great profile and opportunity to showcase their work, be it through event listings, community events or footage.
