Introduction LaGuardia High School in New York and the Brit School in London are two of the world’s most famous schools that specialize in the performing arts. Another famous theme school is La Masia, Barcelona Football Club’s youth soccer academy. All of these schools are located in special buildings where students continue studying their normal school subjects while developing their artistic or spors talents. Apart from classrooms, La Masia has bedrooms (with extra-long beds for some very tall players), dining rooms, a gym, and pool areas. A: Why don’t we create a circus school? B: We could call it The Big Top Circus School. C: Students can learn how to juggle or walk a tightrope. D: We can teach people to be clowns and acrobats. E: That’s a good/great/interesting idea. Step 2 Draw the layout of the school What facilities does a traditional school need – classrooms, cafeteria, auditorium? What special facilities does your theme school need circus tent, recording studio, tennis courts. Draw a plan of the school. Write the names of the different facilities on the layout. Introduction

LaGuardia High School in New York and the Brit School in London are two of the world’s most famous schools that specialize in the performing arts. Another famous theme school is La Masia, Barcelona Football Club’s youth soccer academy.

Step 4 Make a poster to promote your school ■ Brainstorm ideas of things to include on the poster

– photos, texts, quotes. On the poster, include the phrase “Come to our open house!”

■ Prepare all the things you need for the poster. Give each person in the group a task.

■ Make and display the poster.

Step 5 Have an open house at your school ■ Decide on jobs for everyone in the group. You need

someone to welcome visitors to the school’s open house. You need people to show them the layout of the school and someone to explain the schedule. Prepare for your tasks.

■ Welcome other students to your school open house and then visit the other schools.

■ When you finish visiting all of the schools in your class, discuss which of the schools you would most like to go to. Give reasons for your choice.

has a big circus ring.D: A typical school day starts at nine o’clock. First,

there’s a normal class and then there’s a circus class.

Step 3 Make a schedule for a typical school day

■ Make a list of typical school subjects to include – math, history.

■ What other special classes does your school offer – juggling, history of acting, voice training?

■ Draw a grid for a five-day school schedule including classes in the morning and afternoon.

■ Complete one day of the schedule with some of the classes on your lists.
