Step #1: Brainstorm ideas about what kind of event you want to plan.

Make sure to think about the following:

Who? Who do you want to educate about human trafficking? Who is in your sphere of influence? The people that you decide to invite to your party will dictate what kind of an event you plan. Your friends, family, coworkers, or members of a club or Bible study are a good place to start.

What? What are your passions and interests and the passions and interests of those you will be inviting? How can you put a personal touch on your party? Do you want to serve hors d’ouvres, make a dinner, have a theme, or sell RH merchandise? What can you do to make your guests comfortable and more receptive to the message you are sharing?

Where? Is your home a good space to host the party? If not, could you partner with a friend and host the party at their house or even at your church, school, or workplace? Also, working with a friend or group will widen your circle of influence, will boost creativity, and help to reduce your workload.

When?Make sure to look at your schedule and your community’s schedule. Don’t forget about your church’s schedule, the

local school schedule, work events, and national holidays. You want to find the time when the most people can attend your party, as well as make sure that you have plenty of time (and energy) to plan a successful event. You

should start the planning process at least a month to two months before the intended party date; this gives you plenty of time to plan, your guests time to clear their schedules, and the Rapha House staff plenty of time to send you any needed materials.

Need a few ideas? Here are some events that volunteers have planned in the past.

· Purse Party: Sell purses that are hand-made by the girls at RH from your own living room.

· Hobby Party: Talk to friends about human trafficking over scrapbooking, baking (or eating!), or playing card/board games.· Video Game Tournament: You didn’t know that you could play video games and advocate for a cause, did you?· Birthday/Holiday Party: Have guests make a donation to Rapha instead of bringing gifts and explain Rapha’s mission over

cake and ice cream.· Asian Themed Dinner: Make fried

rice, eat with chopsticks, and learn about the social problems

facing Southeast Asia.

Step #2: Tell Rapha House about your event. We want to know about all of your great ideas! Once you have decided on a guest list, the type of party you want to throw, a location, and a date/time, we can help facilitate your party by sending you promotional materials such as brochures and magnets. If you would like to sell our hand-made purses, cosmetic bags, and pillow cases, please contact us at least a month before your party to ensure that there is plenty of time to ship your requested items. All items are subject to availability. You are not required to pay shipping and handling, but a donation is always welcome to help defray the costs of shipping.

Step #3: Make sure everyone knows about your Freedom Party.

In today’s age of social networking, there are many different ways to invite people to a party. However, some avenues of invitation are more effective than others. It might be a good idea to utilize more than one of the following forms of invitation:

· Mailed Invitations: If you are computer savvy, this may seem like an outdated way to do things, but don’t underestimate the power of an invitation stuck on a refrigerator door. You should send out invitations 4-6 weeks

before the intended event.

· Facebook, Twitter, and other online social networking sites: These sites are good to use for less formal occasions or to find out your guests’ schedules. However, experience has shown that online invitations are not as personal or effective as a tangible invitation. Facebook groups or status updates about your party are good reminders for your guests and should be sent about a week before the party.

· Personal Reminders: Before the party, it is good to have personal contact (either face-to-face or via phone call) with your guests to encourage them to come. This can be done a few

days before the event.

Don’t forget to include the date, time, address (with directions if needed), your phone number, and RSVP card, the type of event you are planning (ie purse party, dinner, etc.) on your invitations.

Party TimelineHere is a sample timeline for party. Your party doesn’t have to follow this format, but this is a good place to start.

6:00-6:15pm: Mix and mingle. Allow plenty of time for your guests to talk and get refreshments. This also allows latecomers to come in without interrupting your presentation.

6:15-6:35pm: Show video. After your guests have gathered in a common room, begin your presentation by showing a Rapha House promotional video. Visuals are a great way to catch your audience’s attention and keep them engaged from the very beginning of the night. Audiences are always moved when they see the faces of the girls.

6:35-7:00pm: Share what you have learned and what Rapha House is doing. Attached is a basic outline of our program and a list of human trafficking resources to assist you in preparing your presentation.

7:00-7:15pm: Share your story. Share why Rapha House matters to you and how you are doing your part to speak out. People don’t just want to know about an organization, they want to know why it is important to you.

7:15-7:20pm: Call to action. You’ve already shared about how your response to Rapha House, now its time to challenge your friends to get involved themselves by getting educated and planning their own event or fundraiser.

7:20-8:00pm: Merchandise and Closing. This is a good time to encourage your guests to look at and buy the Rapha House merchandise you are selling, as well as have time for discussion and questions. Make sure your guests

receive a Rapha House brochure and greet them as they leave.

After the party: Follow up and send thank-you cards to your guests. Also, e-mail us with any details or pictures of your party and let us know how it turned out! Send all donations and unsold merchandise to:

Talking PointsHere is a basic outline of Rapha House’s programs for you to reference during your party. The information is laid out so that anyone, at any age, can present Rapha House accurately and confindently. We also have a general PowerPoint presentation available on our website that would work well with this outline.

Who You AreWe would encourage you to share your story of how you got involved, why you care, and how others can help/get involved too. Stress that this epidemic is completely preventable and that every person has a role to play in combating human trafficking, no matter their age, skills, level of education, or profession.

Who We AreRapha House exists to love, rescue and heal children who have been rescued out of slavery and sexual exploitation. Operating as a 501(c)3, Rapha House began in 2003 to fight against slavery and sexual exploitation. Rapha House does this by providing safehomes and aftercare programs for young girls who have been rescued out of exploitative situations. All Rapha House homes are currently located in Southeast Asia, with the goal of expanding globally. · Slavery still exists in every culture. Rapha House is constantly partnering with advocates in an effort to build communities that extend unconditional love, physical rescue and transformational healing.

What We DoSafehouse Programs

· The Rapha House safe house programs exist to provide a place of physical rescue to girls who have known severe abuse and exploitation. RH provides care for girls as young as four years old up to early adulthood. Girls who are

a part of these programs will find:· Her own bed· Three meals a day· Social services to assist with justice issues· Basic education and vocational training· Specialized counseling

· A staff who loves and supports her unconditionally

Reintegration programs:· The Rapha House reintegration programs exist to help restore girls and their families to sustainable freedom. Where We Are/Who We Are Reaching:· RH currently has three homes located in Southeast Asia and hopes to expand the ministry to other countries in the future.· RH has approximately 150 girls in our safehouse programs at this time. In addition, we reach 100’s more children each month through prevention programs and social work efforts in the communities.Prevention Programs:· The Rapha House prevention programs exist as a holistic response to the issues of slavery and sexual exploitation. It is important to understand that often times these tragedies occur due to the extreme vulnerability of children who have no one to protect them. Rapha House’s prevention programs offer families:· Social services for at risk children· Job training for at risk children· Partnerships with organizations that give at risk children a place to play and receive English lessons· Agricultural training to generate income· Education for their neighborhoods and villages on the dangers of human trafficking.

The Call To Action:· Pray· Rapha House whole heartedly believes that our program continues to grow, be protected, and have such amazing success stories due to the prayers of those who hear and respond. This would be a great time to challenge your guests to commit to praying for the program of RH and that God would raise more workers, more safe homes, and more people to minister to those buying and selling the victims. Remember- if we can stop the demand, then we can stop

the problem. Pray!· Educate Yourself

· Check out our resource list online for current articles, books, and movies that you can read and watch to learn about human trafficking today.· Tell Her Story and Become An Advocate· Do not stop where you are at. Once you know, share that knowledge with someone else. · Partner With Us · Guests can plan their own event that fits their individual interests and personality. The most successful events that have been done for Rapha House have come as a result of people combining their passions--

their passion to love, rescue and heal victims and the other passions in their lives.

Please do NOT say the following:· Specific locations of safehouses (such as city names).· That we only work with sex trafficked girls- we work with girls who have been exploited in other ways such as labor trafficking and other forms of sexual exploitation.· That anyone can go over and visit Rapha House safehouses and programs- we try to be selective about who visits in order to protect the girls’ sense of normalcy and privacy. Rapha House staff and Christ in Youth (CIY) host most trips.· That we raid and rescue the girls from their place of slavery. We take referrals from other organizations that raid and rescue. It is too dangerous for our girls and staff to participate in the initial rescue. Our goal is to help girls achieve lasting freedom from a desperate future.· If you have been to Rapha House, please do not give specific names or identifying information of girls that you have met. You are welcome to share a story while eliminating identifying information.· If you have pictures of any Rapha House materials, please check with our USA Staff before using the resources in a public presentation.
