What must I do to maintain the scholarship each semester? In order to maintain their scholarship from one semester to the next, STEM Scholars must:

1) Earn a 3.0 GPA (or higher) each semester 2) Maintain a 3.0 GPA (or higher) overall 3) Maintain full-time enrollment in courses related to their STEM degree program

In addition, STEM Scholars will be asked to complete required, periodic surveys to assist the college in documenting the success of the STEM Scholars Program to our National Science Foundation funding agency.

During the semester, STEM Scholars are encouraged, when possible, to refrain from outside employment obligations, thus enhancing their ability to take advantage of research experiences, faculty mentoring, workshops, and other activities available during the academic year. Summer STEM research, internships and/or work experiences (both paid and unpaid) are encouraged. Returning STEM scholars will also be eligible to serve as tutors and mentors for new, incoming STEM scholars. How do I apply? A link to the online STEM Scholars Application is provided on the Future Students website under the Paying for College/Scholarships heading.

Incoming Fall 2014 students must complete the 2014-15 FAFSA and New York State TAP applications by March 1, 2014 in order for the Financial Aid Office to determine the applicant’s level of need. Students whose Financial Aid documentation is not complete cannot be considered.

Applications will be judged based upon students’ level of financial aid need, prior academic success, past participation in STEM-related activities (including both high school and work-force participation), intended degree program, proposed commitment to pursue a STEM career, and quality of their personal statement indicating the importance of receiving this scholarship towards achieving their educational and career goals.

Applications from incoming Fall 2014 students must be submitted by Sunday March 2, 2014. Finalists will be notified in early April 2014. For questions or more information, contact Maryann Page (Principal Investigator for the STEM Scholar’s program; Associate Professor of Biology) at [email protected]. The STEM Scholars program is supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. DUE-1259441.
