E- Engineering

Project: Student will take photos of architectural works in various cities in Europe. The focus will be on buildings which have been reconstructed and which combine old and new structural and architectural elements. Student will identify the name of the building, the name of the architect(s), where the building is located such as country, city and street address, and materials used and or visible in the recontruction. Student will reflect on the buildings as individual entities and collectively.

The photos will be used to help the student “reconstruct” a building in the US. The historic Hebrew Orphan Asylum in West Baltimore, Md. is in need of preservation, reconstruction, and repurposing. Student will visit the site in West Baltimore and take pictures and then decide how he/she would redesign the building. Student should incorporate materials and elements from the buildings seen in Europe and use photos from the trip as reference material. Student should take into account the location of the building and have a clear idea of how the building will be repurposed in order come up with a fluid and appropriate design. The student will create a 3D model or 2 architectural elevations of the new building. Student will create final PowerPoint Presentation showing pictures of the European buildings and outlining which building materials and architectural elements were used in his/her model or elevations.
