André Potgieter van Energyworx,een van die grootste integreerdersvan dak-sonkrag in Suid-Afrika, sêdie drastiese prysverhogings tesamemet die skerp daling in die koste vanfotovoltaïese stelsels, het die koste-gaping aansienlik verklein en almeer mense sien die voordeel vanson-energie vir die toekoms in.Hy verduidelik: “Dié panele ver-
skaf elektrisiteitwanneer dit aan be-straling blootgestel word. Die kragwat opgewek word, word aan ’n om-skakelaargekoppel,watditna ’nwis-selstroom verander en met die net-werkfrekwensie (Eskom) sinchroni-seer en sodoende die direkteaanvraag van krag van Eskom ver-minder.“Eskomwordnooitafgeskakelnie,
maar bly op bystand virwanneer dieaanvraag groter as die sonkragaan-bod is. Saans,wanneerdie sonpanelegeen effek het nie, voorsien Eskomdus al die krag, maar dan is dit ge-woonlik teen ’n baie goedkoper ta-rief.”VanSuid-Afrika sevoorste vrugte-
plasebelênou ingrootskaalse sonpa-neel-aanlegte. Lourensford-land-goed in Somerset-Wes het pas meeras R7 miljoen belê in die installasievan ’n 500 kWp-fotovoltaïese sonpa-neelaanleg op die wynkelder se dak.Vir dié plaas is die voordele van diébelegging tweërlei: dit sal volhouba-re energie verskaf, maar ook dieplaas ’n treetjie nader aan die pro-duksie van koolstof-neutrale wynebring.Die vrugtebedryf verg baie hoë
kragverbruik weens hul intensieweverkoelingsaanlegte. Sonkrag werkindiewarmmaandeophullehardste– dieselfde tyd wanneer die aanlegtedie meeste op konstante verkoelingstaatmaak.Energyworx het Suid-Afrika se
eerste dak sonkrag-aanleg groter as100kWp by Villiera-wynlandgoed in-stalleer. Dit word gereeld deur dieUniversiteit Stellenbosch vir toet-sing gebruik en dien as vertoonven-ster. Nog plase in die vrugtepakbe-dryf wat die voordeel van sonkragontdek het met die installasie vanEnergyworx-aanlegte, is ondermeerStellenpak inSimondium,dieBo-Ra-dyn Boerdery buite Villiersdorp enBluejays buite Stellenbosch.Stellenpak verskaf ’n verpak-
kings- en verkoelingsdiens en pakprodusente se vars vrugte (pruime,pere, appels en sitrus) vir uitvoer.Robert Saunders vanStellenpakver-tel dat Engergyworx hul sonpanelemiddel 2014 op die dak van hul pak-huis geïnstalleer het. “Die 420kWpstelsel wat 600 MWh per jaar gaanproduseer, bestaan uit 1 680 panelewat ’nareavan2 744m²dek”,sêSaun-ders. “Daar is 21 omskakelaars – 15hiervan voorsien krag aan die koel-kamers en ses aan die pakhuis. Geenkrag word op die oomblik gestoornie.”Elektrisiteit maak ongeveer 10%
van hul totale produksiekoste uit enhoewel hulle nog nie genoeg syfershet nie, reken hulle die panele gaan’n 15%-besparing meebring.“Ons grootste enkele oorweging

Customer frustrationIn the news last week welearned of an irate cus-tomer who put up a hugebanner to air his frustra-tion with a cellphonecompany that would notattend to irregularitiesonhiscellphoneaccount.No one in the companywas willing to solve aproblem which the cus-tomer had no controlover.
The problem with manybig companies today is thatthe entrepreneurial ap-proach to the customer nolonger exists.
Too much distance comes between thecustomer and the person in the companywho can fix the concern. In the above-men-tionedcase,thecustomerwassimplyunableto speak to anyone that really cared.
It has become fashionable to have a tele-phone system that almost bars you fromspeaking to a human being. “For accountspress one; for customer care, press two” etc.The customer care I would like to receiveis that a human being shall pick up thephone at the other end and that I shall beable to speak to someone who can solve myproblem.
We all know the frustration of holding on
while the machine is busyfinishing its story andthen having to listen tomusic and advertise-ments for another 10 min-utes until you can finallyspeak to a human being.
Yet,whenourownbusi-nesses expand, what dowedo?Weinstallthesamesystem that we abhor inotherbusinesses, increas-ing the distance betweenour customers and theperson in the companywho can fix the problem.
There is a saying “Peo-ple support people, not
causes or organisations.” Many people dobusiness with a certain company becauseof the friendly or good service of some indi-vidual within the company that they builda relationship with over time.
Thus, if you have a small business, see toit that you focus on customer care that ispersonal and speedy. This is one of the greatadvantages of a small business; you can actmuch quicker than a big business in thesame industry.
