Electronic Devices

• If we see it or hear it, we take it.• Depending upon how you respond, it is a

temporary removal or it can be longer term.

• In-school community service will result.

Cell Phones – Per CPS Uniform Discipline Code 1.1-8 and 3.3-11:

• No cell phones, CD players, iPods, and other electronic devices are to be used in the school.

• If we see them, we must take them away.• Steinmetz is not responsible for the

return of the item or its condition.• If an emergency call must be placed, the

student should ask permission and go to the counseling office to make the call.

Attendance is directly related to academic success

• Your parent/guardian should call the school as they know you will be absent.

– 534-3030– Give your name, the reason, and when you will

return• Send the child back to school with a signed

note of excuse• The note is turned in to the Attendance Office

by the front doors• The student will need a reinstatement form for

3 absences in a row.

Per the Illinois School Code:

18 absences in a course = failure

STEINMETZ IS A CLOSED CAMPUS SCHOOL

Minimum consequence: a cut recorded and detention given

Multiple violations: In-school or out of school suspension

Every day: Students are to be in class at the usual time, 8:02.Students will be dismissed at 2:31 p.m.9th Period activities: 2:35 – 3:40, unless you are notified otherwiseEvening school: 3:00 – 5:30 Closed campus remains in place!!!!!

We do not allow tardiness. Students should arrive no later than

7:40 a.m.• Say No to Go

–No hall passes except in emergency

–No leaving the campus–No cutting lunch. Get pass to

counselor, computer lab, library, writing center at 7:30 a.m.

CUTTING CLASS• A cut is when the student was in school

but did not attend a particular class.

• A cut is always unexcused.

• Attendance is tracked electronically for each class.

• Each cut earns a detention.

ATTENDANCE DIRECTLY AFFECTS GRADES.

If the student is not in class, he/she isn’t learning.

Detentions

• Students are issued detentions for tardies and cuts.

• Detentions are served after school.

• Detentions are over by 3:15 p.m.

Steinmetz is a closed campus.

• Do not leave for lunch• Do not leave to go to the public library• Do not leave early without following

early dismissal procedure

•Leaving school without permission is a violation of the Student Conduct Code 2 –2 and may result in suspension from

school.

1. Early Dismissals (EDs) are issued only for emergencies, such as illness.

2. The student goes to the counselor to request an ED.

3. Parents/guardians must show valid identification in order to pick up their child.

4. Do not call your child on the cell phone during the school day

5. If there is a problem, contact the counseling office or the main office

Uniforms can be purchased from Student Services across from the lunchroom.

Short Sleeve: $10.00

Long Sleeve: $15.00 while supplies last

3 short sleeve shirts for $25.00 while supplies last.

GYM UNIFORMS:

Shirts: $10.00 Shorts: $10.00

Proper Uniform• Steinmetz long or short sleeve shirt as

weather requires• A solid white shirt may be worn

underneath during cold weather• Dark pants or skirts; shorts that come to

the knee• Dark jeans are O.K.• Solid white or solid black shoes with

matching shoe laces

NOT O.K.• Any shirt other than the Steinmetz uniform,

and in cold weather, a solid white shirt underneath

• Head coverings (except for religious purposes)

• Pajama bottoms or house shoes• Bottoms that are not dark (e.g., red, light blue,

or pink are not allowed.)• Emblems or logos on the bottoms; Steinmetz

logo is OK.• Shoes that are not solid white or black or

don’t have matching laces.

Penalty for being out of uniform

• Parent will be contacted to bring the appropriate clothing to school; or,

• Student may rent a shirt for the day from the school at a charge of $7.00 per day. Upon return of the shirt, $5.00 will be refunded.

However. . .• If a uniform shirt is rented and not

returned at the end of the same day, then the $7.00 fee is charged for each day the shirt is missing.

• Example - a student rents a uniform shirt on Monday and forgets to bring it back until Friday

• = $30.00 in rental fees.

Students must wear I.D.s If an adult asks to see the ID, the student must give the ID to that

person.• Students must wear the I.D. at all times.• If student has left I.D. at home, a

temporary will be issued for a $1.00 fee.• If student has lost the I.D., then a new

one must be purchased.

Mistakes or carelessness can be expensive.

• Report cards and transcripts cannot be issued if a student owes the school money .

• Your child should tell you of these expenses. If your child seems to be asking for money for school, make sure you find out what it is for.

If a student wants to see a counselor during lunch, it is best to go to the counseling office at 7:30 to make an appointment and get a pass.

Lockers are assigned by Student Services during Freshmen orientation

LOCK FEE: $10.00

Students should never, ever share a locker or give out their locker combination.

Lockers may be searched at any time.

• Passes can be purchased at Student Services located across from the lunchroom

• Valid for entire school year Monday through Friday 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

• Students will need to provide a small picture for the pass

• Student must also show student ID

• COST: $5.00

• Reduced Fare Cost: $0.85 without transfer

• Reduced Fare Cost: $1.00 with transfer

Your high school education begins now!

Know it up front: To graduate from any CPS high school, students must

• Earn 24 credit hours, including core requirements• Perform 40 hours of community service• Complete a cycle career path classes (e.g.,

academic, ETC, ROTC)

To graduate from ANY Illinois public high school, including CPS, students must take both days of the Prairie State Achievement Examination in Grade 11.

To stay on track for graduation and become a sophomore, you must

Pass all courses, both semesters, Everyone: English, Algebra, Biology, Computer Information Technology, Physical Education (PE)

Others: English I or Algebra Extended, World Studies, Band, or World Language

No Driver’s Education if a student has less than 4 credits

Tutoring

• SES, SLC, and DEY provide FREE tutoring at Steinmetz

• Starts September 16th

• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday• 2:35 – 3:40 or until 5:30 p.m—per parent

contract.• See Ms. Lofton in Room 104A• Algebra, English, Reading, Biology, --it’s

all there!

The PSAE is required by Illinois Law for graduation

from ANY public high school.

The PSAE includes the ACT, which colleges use for entrance.
