She has working in the building products industry specifically for 10 years (specializing in the lifecycle of steel for the past two years) and has been recognized nationally as one of the country’s emerging female leaders. As the topic of sustainability is a major business priority for BlueScope Steel, Kerri is playing an instrumental leading role in the company’s quest to improve the sustainability of its products and services. As the Strategy & Sustainability Manager, Kerri works on understanding the key aspects of sustainability and to providing insights to the business. Our robust activities have thus created a growing concern globally on the efforts in preserving our resources and the environment for the future. There is now abundant scientific evidence that our vigorous actions have caused much environmental harm such as green house effect and global warming. As the saying goes, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrowed it from our future.” Therefore there is a paradigm shift whereby efforts has been taken from reorganizing living conditions, reappraising economic sectors, best practices at work, to adjustments in individual lifestyles. The acceptance of green and sustainability concept in the building and construction industry has placed unprecedented pressure to have not only sustainable architecture designs but sustainable building materials as well. Hence the topic of presentation – Steel Sustainability will focus on steel application as a sustainable material and its advantages. Being recognized as one of the world’s most recycled material, steel is a definite preferred material towards sustainable buildings.
