STEAM BLOWING AND AIR BLOWING SERVICES Steam blowing and air blowing are basically alternative techniques used during the commissioning of new steam raising plant. They are performed to ensure that potentially damaging debris is removed from the steam lines before the steam is admitted to equipment that may be damaged by such debris, in particular steam turbines.
Steam or air blowing is basically a flushing technique designed to fluidize and carry out non-adherent debris. The essence of the method is to arrange the purge conditions such that the forces on a debris particle during purging are greater than those experienced under the most severe normal operating conditions. This means that any debris not removed during purging will not be picked up by the steam flow during normal operations.
