Our Mission St. Charles is a Christ focused, diverse, family centered, Catholic community serving Imperial Beach and the South Bay. We believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and His saving grace received through the Sacraments. We believe in the Holy Catholic Church instituted by Jesus, the sanctity of life, the value of family, and lifelong Catholic education for all ages. We live to deepen our love of God, spread His Gospel and bring others to Christ. We are committed to a life of prayer, sacrifice, and service to those in need. With love, humility, and joyful obedience, we strive to be transformed and guided by the Holy Spirit until we are transformed in the eternal life of Heaven.
Daily Prayer For Priests O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests; For your unfaithful and tepid priests; For your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields. For your tempted priests; For your lonely and desolate priests; For your young priests; For your dying priests; For the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me: The priest who baptized me; The priests who absolved me from my sins; The priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; The priests who taught and instructed me; All the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way (especially_________). O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart, And bless them abundantly in time and in Eternity. Amen By St. Therese of Lisieux

THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
We have a unique episode in the Acts of the Apostles today. A whole roomful of people are baptized with the Holy Spirit before they are baptized with water! The verb used—“the Holy Spirit ‘fell’ on them” (Acts 10:44)—is characteris-tic of the way the Spirit works throughout the book of Acts: powerful and surprising. Though this “baptism” is not the normative way the New Testament describes baptism, it is still a good reminder today that the Holy Spirit is not con-trolled by whether or not we pour water, but rather that our sacramental signs reveal the presence of the Spirit at work among us. And we have a double reinforcement of how this work is accomplished from a Letter and a Gospel bearing John’s name. It is love, self-sacrificing and self-giving love, that manifests the Spirit of Jesus in our midst. It is love that is the greatest of commandments. The Spirit is manifested equally through those who live in that love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

“The Diocesan Celebration – A Pentecost For All People” .
Celebration will be held at Good Shepherd Parish on Satur-day, May 22. The outdoor Mass at 11 am will be celebrated by Bishop McElroy with Auxiliary Bishops Dolan and Be-jarano. Bishop McElroy invites all faithful to come to-gether for this special Pentecost celebration as we re-energize our mission to love and serve all of mankind in God’s name. Bishop McElroy with Auxiliary Bishops John Dolan and Ramón Bejarano and clergy will concelebrate this annual Mass with the diverse communities and cultures of the dio-cese, invoking the Holy Spirit to renew us by building unity, justice and mercy in the Body of Christ. Everyone is wel-come to this extraordinary celebration of our universal Catholic family.
MOTHER’S DAY NOVENA: We will have a novena of masses for our mothers beginning May 9th. If you wish to enroll your living or de-ceased mother, please use the enve-lopes available at the parish office.
FEAST OF FAITH
The Creed Following the readings and the homily, we stand to-gether and say or sing the Creed, our profession of faith. The Creed is a solemn statement of belief, a “rule of faith” (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, 67). It states the core of what we believe about God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The language of the Creed is knotty and difficult at times, precisely because its purpose is to express with precision what we believe about God. The Creed that we pray most often, the Nicene Creed, came out of the earliest ecumenical councils: Nicea in 325 and Con-stantinople in 381. It originated in a time of great contro-versy about the divinity of Christ, and thus the longest sec-tion of the Creed relates to Christ, truly human and truly God. The Creed is both communal and personal: it is “we,” but it is also “I.” In the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, it is only after listening to the teaching of the Church and professing faith in the Holy Trinity that the candidate is ad-mitted to the sacraments. So it is every Sunday. We listen to the word, we profess our faith, and then we come to the al-tar. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

——Miguel Arias, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
