Meet Carolopedia! You may notice that in Stay Tuned we mention that if you have questions, contact Carolopedia. But what – or who – is Carolopedia?

Meet Carol Karber, the namesake of Carolopedia, Marlene Wilkins and Matt Ludtke, the trio who answer questions you have about WKAR.

Carol has been with WKAR for 23 years, in member services, the business o ce and now serving as administrative assistant to the Director of Broadcasting. Marlene came to WKAR in 1986 as a receptionist. She later became the scheduling assistant for Interactive Video Services and now works in our front o ce.

Matt (aka InfoMatt ) began working for WKAR as a student. He currently works closely with Radio Reading Service and is heard on Current Sports with Al Martin.

What are some of the most frequently asked questions this intrepid team receives?“What was that piece of music played on WKAR Radio?” We can generally tell you who the artist or conductor is for a given piece of music if you know what time you heard it on WKAR Radio.

“Why is my television audio o˜ ?” This might be a technical problem, but usually the viewer has hit a button called SAP on their remote and it toggles back to music from WKAR Radio. It’s an easy x.

“Will a certain program be repeated?”If a program has already been scheduled, we can generally tell you if it will be repeated on one of our three channels.

“When will you air a program I heard about elsewhere?”Not all PBS stations air the same program at the same time. If we know the program is coming up in our schedule, we can generally tell you when it will be.

“Sometimes people will call to say they are having a technical problem. We can often tell if it is related to their cable service,” says Carol. Or, if the person is watching over the air – it may be related to the antenna position or even the weather. Windy or rainy conditions can sometimes a ect over-the-air reception, depending on the user’s antenna.

“We receive a lot of compliments from those who like a program,” adds Carol, acknowledging that they also may receive “problem calls.” Either way, it’s important for us to know what you like and your concerns!

Email [email protected] or call (517) 884-6990 to talk to one of Carolopedia’s team members!
