Staying Active and Living Healthy
2020 1st Quarter Charitable Giving Campaign Beneficiary:
AniMeals on Wheels AniMeals on Wheels is an Active Generations’ Program designed to help keep animals healthy. This program helps homebound seniors to keep their animal companions, which can be essential to our physical and mental well being. The program helps provide some pet food, supplies, veteri-narian expenses and transportation to the vet. The AniMeals program is partially funded through Meals on Wheels of America, animal professionals volunteering their time, and private donations. In support of this campaign, in February residents made pet toys and during the month of March, monetary donations and pet supplies will be collected. The giving campaign will wrap up on March 26th with a presentation by an AniMeals program volunteer, at which time they will give us more information and we will give them our donations!
Administrator Sue Lund writes:
The 2020 year started with a change in office staff. Sheila B. is promoted to a new position, Office Manager. In this position, Sheila will be completing bookkeeping, financial reports, supervising the office staff and Resident As-sistants, overseeing office duties including equipment and vendors, and partnering with me on special tasks. With that, Brenda B. joined our staff on January 24th as Receptionist/Office Assistant. Please welcome Brenda to Sunny-crest Village!
The warm weather I enjoyed during my visit to my Aunt Dorothy in Arizona this month was fantastic! While there, several “native” Arizonians and snowbirds stated it was unusually cold; but it was not near as cold as the weather here in South Dakota! However, warm weather will return; hopefully soon! With that, thank you Ross, Bob H, Bob G, and Mike on snow removal during and after the snow falls; your efforts in cold, difficult conditions are so appreciated and beneficial!
This year in February, we enjoy an extra 24 hours, Leap Day on February 29th. How timely that this February, Jean, our Activities Coordinator, has chosen to have February as a “Random Act of Kindness” time. Hopefully you joined in some of the group events offered to thank volunteer ministers who lead our Wednesday Chapel services and make resident Valentine cards. Hopefully you have also had a chance to do a couple of additional private acts of kindness too; if not, what a good use of the extra hours this month. I know many residents and staff do many acts of kindness each and every day, but a special focus on kindness is wonderful and appropriate as we “leap” into the Lenten season.
As we celebrate Easter mid-April, our actions may also include gardening. If you are interested in a garden plot or a raised garden bed, watch Channel 96 for specifics on signing up and the garden tilling date, which is set by the person who tills. As in the past, returning gardeners have first choice at the spot they used last year.
As spring approaches, don’t forget we spring ahead into daylight savings time on March 8th. Fortunately, we have not been adversely affected in the past, but planning for inclement spring weather possibilities, it is best to have an operational battery-operated flashlight on hand, listen for weather warnings affecting this area, stay away from windows, and have a plan in place of what you would do.
Wishing you a meaningful Lenten season
and a Happy Easter & Spring!
