Problems online and how to talk to children about them

Predators

● People who look for kids online– Chat rooms– Vkontakte

● Pretend to be celebrities, or people they know, or just “nice people” who want to practice English

● Really can be in human trafficking, or other nasty things

On the internet, it's like people have masks

Only add people you know that you know, like friends or family

We tell children:

● Never agree to meet with anyone without your parents being present

● If someone starts asking you for personal information, tell your parents or an adult you trust

● Set your privacy settings to make it so that people you don't know can't see you

Crimes

● Criminals look for your private information online.

● They sell it, and it can hurt you.

For example,

know a site is secure– Address – Phone number– Email– Bank accounts
