Dolor Sit Amet RESPONSE The response to the first volume of Staying Connected has been overwhelming. It underpins that Sydney U3A is one very special organisation with very special members – caring, skilled individuals dedicated to the concept of lifelong learning – we share, grow, socialise and have passion - we’ve got it all. If we Stay Connected throughout this insidious pandemic, Sydney U3A will emerge in tact and much stronger for the experience. We’re all volunteers and we’re all giving 100% to ensure U3A longevity. Thanks all for your positive thoughts. Emmanuel Zarbuk has volunteered to provide trivia questions for us. These will be published from time-to-time. A couple are in this volume. I was so happy to receive Emmanuel’s offer, as the time I spent googling free stuff and formatting from the web to the newsletter was time consuming. Sandra Sadler leader Fun Problem Solving to keep our minds active has also provided us with a couple of puzzles. MEMBERSHIP Membership for all financial members has been extended by 100 days. If the embargo continues it will be reviewed. This means that when your renewal date becomes due that 100 days will be added. Example: Your membership renewal is April 1, 2020 but when the 100 days are added your membership renewal date becomes July 9, 2020

FROM OUR ADMIN MANAGER, LYNDA CRONSHAW For the time being Sydney U3A Central Office has been relocated to my spare bedroom! (temporary move only). From my spare bedroom, I am monitoring all emails and voicemails, will return all calls and can also process any U3A credit card subscriptions. As long as restrictions permit, I am going into the office on a weekly basis to collect and process any postal payments and to print off and mail new member cards. Stay Connected – Lynda WARNING Scammers abound! Beware

As the structure of the BOM has changed, it is likely that those unscrupulous individuals who regularly send emails to members asking them to purchase gift cards will use the opportunity to send emails (supposedly) from our new president.

DO NOT OPEN THESE EMAILS –

DELETE THEM

Scamming is increasing and there is a general warning issued by the government to how scammers work and the various type of scams. Check out the informative government’s website: https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/types-of-scams/attempts-to-gain-your-personal-information/phishing

SUPPLIED COURTESY OF SANDRA SADLER LEADER FUN PROBLEM SOLVING TO KEEP OUR MINDS ACTIVE UPPER NORTH REGION (Thank you Sandra) A security door needs a six-digit code to open it. * All the digits add to 31 * One of the digits is zero * The sum of the 5th and 1st digits is 13 * The 1st digit is one bigger than the 2nd digit * The 4th digit is the square of the second digit * The final digit is smaller than the first. Dolor Sit Amet Toni Rycroft, a member of the Greater Western region’s Storytellers Parramatta has sent us another of her great poems. Members will recall that Toni was recruited to write a poem for the NSW Government’s Department of Communities and Justice suitable for use on the department’s social media website in the lead up to Grandparents’ Day last year.

CORONAVIRUS- A CALL TO ARMS The dreaded ‘Rona has us in its thrall; Everybody, Uncle Tom Cobley and all But we seniors are made of very stern stuff And we will prevail; we will call its bluff.

We’ll obey government guidelines as they’ve been set; No visiting or hosting guests as yet... We’ll wash our hands, we won’t touch our faces, We’ll stay well away from our old favourite places.

We’ll bravely smile and come up with jokes To email, WhatsApp and message to folks; We’ll reassure our loved ones that we’re okay And we’ll really mean it... it’s the very best way. We WILL get through this, and we’ll care for each other, Ask for help and bury our pride; Who’s with me? You are? That’s great to hear! Now hop on... it’ll be quite a ride! Oh... and PS, all you good friends of mine; BEWARE OF FAKE NEWS...you can check how online And by performing this relatively simple act You’ll successfully separate fiction from fact.
