Parish Council update A huge thank you to the people of Warboys for their patience and forbearance in recent months in complying with lockdown rules. It’s been a difficult time for everyone but hopefully there’s a glimmer of light as infections continue to fall. With lockdown rules easing on 4 July, there’s some good news with the playgrounds at Adams Lyons, Jubilee Park and Orchard Close re-opening on that day. Notices will be displayed reminding users of the COVID-19 Secure guidelines to help avoid risks of transmission. Anyone using the playgrounds should take particular care to wash their hands after use and avoid touching their face. Children should be supervised carefully to maintain good hygiene and should not use the playgrounds if they have any signs or symptoms of coronavirus. The Parish Centre will also open, but activities will be restricted to those with limited numbers to meet the COVID-19 Secure guidelines. These include smaller meetings, Pilates and similar but parties and large gatherings will not be acceptable. Council meetings should resume on 13 July at the Parish Centre. The tennis court will remain closed. Over the years, the playing surface has deteriorated to such an extent that it’s becoming dangerous and players could easily slip and injure themselves. No news yet on whether the fair can come for Feast Week. Although this is one of the activities permitted in the 4 July lifting of restrictions, the operators are having to check with the Showmen’s Guild and would have to provide risk assessments demonstrating that they are taking every precaution to reduce the risk of infection from the various rides and stalls. Figures have just been received for the usage of the textile recycling banks in the Library car park. The amount collected last year fell to just under 5 tonnes from 7½ tonnes in the previous year. This resulted in the amount of money paid to the Parish Council for use in Warboys dropping from £1,135 to £738 which is still a very sizeable sum. Textiles collected in the Warboys banks are used for charitable purposes and do generate income for the parish, but it’s recognised that there are many other good causes that individuals wish to support through door or door collections or charity shop outlets.

Roy Reeves, the Clerk can be contacted at [email protected] or 01487 823562

Bluntisham Recyling Centre From Monday, 22 June, you will only be able to visit the site if you have pre-booked a slot. This measure is being introduced to reduce traffic congestion, speed up entry times and reduce the risk of collisions around the sites. Residents should only make essential visits to Household Recycling Centres if it is not possible to store waste safely at home or dispose of it through kerbside or bulky waste collections. Sites are provided for the use of Cambridgeshire residents only, and all users should be prepared to show proof of address on arrival. Residents who use a vehicle that requires an e-permit to gain entry will also need to book a time slot.

You can book your slot online but if you can’t access the website, you can phone 0345 045 5207 for help. For more information go to https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/waste-and-recycling/household-recycling-centres

Warboys Primary Academy – update We are delighted to hear that the government is aiming for all pupils to be back to school in September, however we remain cautious and look forward to further guidance about what this will actually look like in school and what safety measures we will need to keep in place to ensure this is successful. As always, the safety and well-being of children and staff will be our highest priority and we will communicate any plans or important information as soon as we can.

Becky Ford Headteacher.

Warboys Cricket Net Renovations Thanks to a grant of nearly £1,000 from the Whittome Wind Trust, St Ives & Warboys Cricket Club, have been able to install brand new nets and batting privacy screens at their ground in Warboys. The nets which will replace those damaged by rats over the winter mean that the facilities provided at Warboys remain some of the best in the area. Martin Croucher, Club Chairman said “Thanks to the help of the Whittome Wind Trust our net facility is not only as good as new, it’s now even better. As well as replacing the netting we have also been able to add batting privacy screens which will help protect the nets as well as providing an improved experience for all of our members as these cut down wind flow and provide extra privacy when batting. Whittome Wind Trust have been fantastic supporters of our club over a number of years and this has helped us maintain the fantastic facilities we have on offer. Whilst this current season has been sadly affected by the coronavirus outbreak, we have now commenced training and our juniors will, I know, make good use of the nets for the remainder of the season. They will also enable us to comeback stronger next year and give the people of the village and surrounding areas a net facility that is second to none.”

NEWS from our Community Groups

WADS Mask-r-Aid -update In last month’s diary WADS reported that they had started making face masks, based on the guidance provided by the Public Health England and Trading Standards. The masks were being donated free to those shielding, isolating and/or over seventy and the total was just over 350 masks.

WADS then decided to make these masks available to anyone in the local area. As at 27 June. Andrea (WADS chair) is proud to report that the four WADS sewers have made a phenomenal 1390 adult and child masks for anyone living in Warboys, Old Hurst, Broughton and Wistow. All masks are packed and delivered free of charge to those who need them. Donations have been gratefully received from some recipients to help us to buy more elastic and filters, while others have given us much needed fabric. WADS wanted to take on this project and help support the Warboys community and keep them safe. We are returning the support Warboys has always given WADS through almost 30 years of pantomime audiences and fund-raising to keep this “not for profit society” active in the village. WADS will be making masks until the 19 July so if you would still like to place an order then please contact Sara on 07552576929 or email

[email protected] Please keep staying safe and WADS hope to see you all at one of our productions soon (whenever it is safe and sensible to do so)

please ring 07552576929 or email [email protected]. Free delivery.

Tallest Sunflower Competition for Children Update

We hope those of you who entered this competition are all caring for your Sunflowers and enjoying watching them grow? Over 40 children have entered and the Judges will be getting their measuring tapes at the ready in late August/early September. Remember Sunflowers need sun and a sheltered spot from the wind and plenty of water. When they grow high, they may need a cane to support them. Ask your Mummy or Daddy for help with this.

Keep gardening!

STAY SAFE and STAY WELL

Message from the Moat House Surgery Firstly, we would like to express our thanks to all our patients for being accommodating and accepting of all the changes we have had to rapidly implement over the last 3 months.

At the end of March, we moved very swiftly to a total triage model, cancelling a lot of face-to-face appointments and replacing them with telephone consultations, video consultations and some patients have used our new online triage system doctorlink. Our clinicians have still been seeing patients for face-to-face consultations where they deem it necessary or for those patients where the use of technology is difficult. Our nursing team has also adapted well and although we continue to see patients face-to-face, a lot of the long-term condition reviews have been conducted over the telephone. To help manage patients with long- term conditions we will be encouraging them to buy a blood pressure machine if they have high blood pressure or heart problems or a pulse oximeter if they have COPD. These BP machines can be bought from Amazon, Boots or Lloyds for under £20 and pulse oximeters for under £10. This is the validated list of home blood pressure monitors https://bihsoc.org/bp-monitors/for-home-use/ Following NHS England guidance, we are now starting to increase activity at the Practice. Invitations for cervical screening are returning to normal recall and we're trying to do as much as we can in the way of routine work to avoid a backlog. We are encouraging patients to attend the practice for their routine blood tests and health checks, if they receive an invitation. All patient invites will state if it is a telephone consultation or an appointment at the surgery. We can reassure you that we are cleaning all surfaces and equipment between patients, wearing appropriate PPE and taking all precautions so that we can protect both patients and staff. We are now asking patients to wear a face covering when they attend the Practice if possible. Patients are still being asked to call reception when they arrive at the surgery and to wait in their car or outside. This is working very well at the moment but we are monitoring this system all the time. We ask that patients continue to adhere to social distancing guidelines, handwashing frequently and the wearing of face coverings on public transport and enclosed spaces to avoid a second spike of the virus going into winter - which is our busiest time of the year.

If you have any queries or concerns, do please contact the Practice.

KEY MESSAGES Whilst there has been a relaxation of many of the lockdown rules, we would: § recommend you stick with

the 2 metre social distancing advice

§ avoid crowded spaces if at all possible and if not wear a face covering and wash your hands frequently

§ remind you that at the moment you cannot meet with more than 6 people unless you are in the same household or support bubble

volunteers if you are unable to do this yourself

§ can organise friendly chat pairing- if you fancy a friendly chat with someone who lives close by, get in touch. We all get lonely sometimes and when in lockdown isolation it can feel even worse

§ use donations to make up and deliver free parcels of food items and other essentials to households who are experiencing financial hardship.

THE WARBOYS AMATEUR DRAMATICS SOCIETY 500-WORD WRITING COMPETITION In the June Diary, WADS invited everyone to take part in a village writing competition. There were four age categories and the only brief was that the 500 words should be a story or poem about Warboys and what the author liked about the village. The winners of each category will receive two free tickets to the next WADS pantomime (whenever that may be!) and their name will be immortalised as a character in that pantomime. Each winner will receive a framed copy of the script highlighting their name in the script. Sadly, WADS only had entries from three age groups and were disappointed that the teenagers in the village didn’t want to join in with a bit of fun. The quality of the entries in the other three ages categories were excellent and did give the judges a challenge as they were impressed by more than one entry in each age range. But then they had to be strict about whether the composition filled the brief set above. WADS wanted to publish all the winning entries in the Diary and share them with the village. For space reasons, we have had to spread the results over two editions. The two winners this month are the youngsters as WADS decided they couldn’t keep them waiting! As readers of the diary I’m sure you will all agree we have talented young writers in the village. Well done Ollie and Logan, your names will now be characters in the next WADS pantomime. WADS will publish the winning adult entry in the next Diary and will then arrange a photoshoot with all three winners,

The naming of new places and roads The significance of the name and street names of the new housing estate off Station road are as follows Great Pastures – comes from the name of a close just to the north that was on the Warboys 1795 Enclosure map Phase Two – Two of the streets I named in memory of a Saxon lady who lived and died here over 6000 years ago. We

don’t know who she was or what she did in this place or even her name. Saxon Way and Eldrida Drive -Eldrida is a Saxon lady’s name meaning wise advisor. This I thought was a most apt name Humbrills Close - there was both a large and small Humbrels close to the north on the 1795 Warboys Enclosure map (Original spelling was Humrels)

Healthwatch coronavirus survey toolkit Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Healthwatch Peterborough have launched a new survey to find out people’s experiences of health, social care, and community support since the start of the coronavirus crisis. We’ve worked with local authorities and the NHS, as well as getting feedback from local people, to help us decide what questions to ask. We will be publishing fortnightly briefings on the latest data to help our local authorities and NHS understand how things are affecting local people. The first one will be published at the end of June and then fortnightly after that. We will also share what people tell us with Healthwatch England which will help inform the national response to the pandemic. Your help needed: please share any of our regular social media posts that we put out on our different platforms – we are hoping to do lots of short videos about the survey. We are on

The Parish Council will be considering how we can mark this anniversary given the current social distancing restrictions. Information will be made available on the Warboys Parish Council facebook page and in the next edition of the Diary
